Five Things About Me . . .

 photo SAM_2505_zps65ce3adb.jpg

This is a photograph that Todd took of me last year with my prize that I won for developing some appetiser recipes for Pidy foods.  I love to enter contests.   Any kind of contest.   Crossword contests,  writing contests, recipe contests, art contests, etc.  I just love contests!  It's not about winning because I only ever very rarely do.  For me it's about the challenge.  I love a good challenge.  I love being challenged.   I just love rising to a challenge.  I suppose that makes me competitive in a way, except in a good way because I am not always in it to win it.  (Although I have to say . . .  I'm only human and winning is very nice.)

And that's number one.  Yeppers, another five things about me post!  (How can it be Thursday already?  The weeks are just flashing by)

I started wearing eye glasses when I was six years old.    I cannot remember what it is like to see anything clearly without some sort of frame around it.   My first eye glasses were pink, horn rimmed with rhinestones in the outer corners.  They had safety wires running through them, I suppose so that they wouldn't break, but they did break.   When I was nine a boy punched me in the face on the way home from school one day and my glasses broke.  I can remember being afraid to go home and show my mother.  In high school, I only wore them when I absolutely had to . . .  ie, to look at the blackboard.  I  didn't want people to see me with them on.   Vanity was my middle name, although I don't know why I thought squinting to see things would be any more attractive than wearing eye glasses! haha    My father wore glasses and still does.  My mother wears them to read, and my sister and brother both wear them all the time like me and our father.

I take my glasses off to read.   Although I have variegated bi-focals, I can't seem to read close up with them on, and so I take my glasses off.  In bed I never wear them to read on my kindle.  It is hard to see sometimes, but it is even harder to see with them on.   I have tried both ways.   Perhaps I need to get a pair of magnifiers, or change the size of the print on my kindle to larger.   Can you do that??  If so, how??  I'd really like to know.  In any case, I don't read with my glasses on.

 photo hugs.png

I'm a hugger.  I love to hug and I love to be hugged.  I also pat when I hug.   I know some people are not comfortable with hugs, but I am not one of them.   I hug.  It's kind of weird really.  My mom never liked us to hug her when we were growing up, she didn't want her hair or makeup being messed up.   My dad was the opposite.  He probably wanted to hug us too much, lol.   I am just a hugger.  If you need a hug . . .  I'm your gal!

 photo serendipity3.png

I am a seeker of serendipity.  I am always looking for the silver lining, the thread of good, the positive side, etc.   If you look for happiness in most situations, you will find it.  Of course I am not so naive as to believe that  it's always there.  Sometimes it just isn't.  It is hard to find something positive in some situations . . .  but for the most part I am a positive thinker and do manage to have lots of happy discoveries.  Heart shaped rocks, four leaf clovers, flowers growing where they shouldn't, a feather in an obscure place, etc.   When I was over here for the first time,  and Todd and I were getting to know each other, I found a little pewter Micky Mouse charm laying on the sidewalk (or pavement as it is called here)  one day when we were going for a walkabout.  I still have it.

He's only tiny.  I keep him in my jewelry box.

And there you have it five things about me!  I hope that I haven't bored you with them!

I finally did a painting yesterday.  First one I have done in a while.  It's a kind of spring type of painting.  I quite like it.

I also finished this.  (I hope the recipient will like it).

And began this. It's going to be Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz.   So my hands have been busy.  Today I must cook.

A thought to carry with you through today . . .

  2. Oh my Marie you have teased my taste buds. I have waited too long to eat dinner and now that I have it has not touched the sides. I need to eat that recipe now.

I love the Dorothy doll. The painting is special too.

My mother is like you. She has won glasses for forever and is always taking them off to read or do close work. I am always glasses hunting too as she loses them.

God bless you day. I would love to send some heat your way as it the top reading I found on my gauge was 39. Too darn hot.

  3. You can make your print bigger on the Kindle. My sister told me how to fix it on mine, but I can't remember just what I did. I hope you can figure it out. What a difference it makes.

  5. I will have to try to figure it out Sybil, as the print is a bit too small for me. I don't know if I have a back light on mine or not. I have had it for several years now. It is not a new modern version. It was frosty here this morning also. Will be popping your little ladies into the post tomorrow. My boxes are underneath Ariana's bed and she is sleeping after having worked last night xoxo

THanks Suzan! I am always hungry. I wish I were not. It makes me annoyed with myself. I wish I was one of those people who are never hungry. xoxo

I will try to sort it out Pam. I need to do something! xoxo

I will try Google Monique. Love your ideas. I have a light that I clip onto my kindle. I would love to have a newer one but am afraid my books would not transfer? I don't know! I hope your daughter is having a lovely time. My oldest daughter went to Disney a few years ago before she got married. She loved it! xoxo

  8. Hi, Marie ... a quick way to enlarge the print on Kindle is to place your thumb and forefinger together on the screen then spread them apart; a box should pop up for you to select the size print you desire. NOTE: this works for books but not for Table of Contents, etc.) I, too, started wearing eyeglasses in 1st grade but went for several years in early adulthood without them; today I'm blind as a bat without them! I'm enjoying your little dolls; so creative.

  9. I always get excited when it's another "5 Things About Me" post. I'm a hugger and a patter too! Oh, we will be in trouble when we get together! ;-) I also take my glasses off to read and never wear them when reading in bed. Even though they do have the bifocals on the bottom. I need new glasses. Love your sweet doll creations. xoxo
