My Favourite Things . . .

A few of the things in life that make my heart go pitty pat. Maybe they will do the same thing for yours. ♥♥♥

Decorative Tins.  I love them. I used to have a magnificent collection of them when we had our house in New Brunswick. There was space over the tops of my cupboards and I had them lined up around them to decorate my kitchen.  They looked really nice.

Hoosier cabinets . . .  love them . . .

Barns of any kind  . . .  love, LOVE them!

Victorian Penny Dolls . . .  my sister used to make them.  They were gorgeous. I wish she still did make them.

Daydreaming.  I have always been a daydreamer.  My imagination fueled my childhood and made it more interesting and exciting and daydreaming got me through the most mundane of my duties when I was working at the Manor. I always had my head in the clouds per se when I was doing something that didn't require a lot of thought, like dusting the bazillion artifacts that needed dusting in the conservatory and kitchen, and polishing the brass and silver.  Lottery tickets have always come with lots of dreaming attached and I get my money's worth just in dreams alone.

Actually it was nice to discover that there are scientifically proven benefits to the art of daydreaming.   I now feel vindicated!

Window crystals. I had a few in the UK.

The Winding Road by George Callaghan

Primitive Folk Art. I like it better than the great classics. I think there is a lot of character in Primitive Folk Art, and a whole lot of soul.   It speaks to my heart.

Antique Irons  . . .

Baby chicks.  Little puffballs of cuteness  . . .

The warmth that comes from a tiny patch of sunlight in a room  . . .  lovely.

Eskimo kisses . . . .

Vera Mouse by Marjolein Bastin.  I just adore the art of Marjolein anyways, but Vera Mouse is my favourite.

Roasted Cashew Nuts.  They are my favourite roasted nut followed by Pistachio nuts.  My parents used to get a tin of mixed nuts every Christmas and the Cashews in them were everyone's favourites. They used to disappear first. I think my mom used to fish them all out when we were not looking!

Chocolate Coated Almonds. Especially the ones my children used to sell through the fund raisers at school.  Oh I simply adored them.

Red geraniums.  I love them.  I could fill my garden with tubs of red geraniums, and window boxes too.  They just make me smile.

Old food marketing ads.  Not all are grotesque, and there are often ones I would like to make.  Maybe not this one per se, but others.  I find them to be a fascinating look into Western culture and tastes over the years.  A lot of them had recipes  on them, which were destined to become family favourites and probably still are.

Michael Portillo's great train journies.  This man has the idea job. He takes the train.  All over. Gets to see amazing things.  Eat amazing food.  Meet amazing people.  And he takes us right along with him. I find his train journey shows fascinating. He's literally gone all over the world.

The music of Neil Diamond  . . .  love it.

Cast irons beds  . . .

Pretty bed linens  . . .

Anything that glitters.  I am like a crow in that way  . . .

Bees on literally anything . . .  Love them . . .

Anything Jo Malone  . . .  the perfumes, the colognes, the creams, the packaging  . . .

Monopoly  . . .

Rag rugs  . . .  love, love, love  . . .

Penny rugs and matts made from wool and felt  . . . .

Vintage Illustration, especially when it is from old children's books. I love the old verses also. I wonder do children still read them?

Hand knit mittens . . .  I have a pair I bought on Etsy a few years back. Wish I could knit my own . . .

Poetry. I love to read it and I love to write it  . . .

And those are my favourite things for this week. Are any of them yours?

The sun is shining brilliantly here again today.   I have developed a rash and a bump on my arm from where I got my Moderna Shot. Apparently it is called Covid Arm and is a mild reaction. It shouldn't last long, but it is darned itchy! "Delayed Cutaneous Hypersensitivity." It should go off within a few days. (Here's hoping!)
