The Simple Woman's Day Book

 photo smallsimplewomanicon_zpsac834e67.jpg

 FOR TODAY, October 21st, 2014

Outside my window ...
All is dark, but the wind is blowing and it's raining.  Not quite as badly as I expected it to be this morning.  We are getting the tail end of that hurricane which battered Bermuda a few days ago.     We battened down the hatches yesterday just in case.  Todd did not want to have to chase the shed room down the street.

I am thinking ...
"The more difficulties one has to encounter, within and without, the more significant and the higher in inspiration his life will be."
~Horace Bushnell

Sometimes I wish my life wasn't quite so significant, higher or inspirational, lol.

I am thankful ...
For the love of family and friends.   For each and every day of life I am given, the bad, the good and everything in between.

In the kitchen ...
I did a lot of posts yesterday because I had a few things that I wanted to get out of the way that were in my queue, and I had done some Halloween things that I only realized yesterday had to be done by yesterday.  I had planned on doing them over a couple of days, but they all had to come together unfortuately.   But here we go.

On my "To Cook" list ...

Pumpkin Crumb Spice Cake from Culinary Concoctions by Peabody.
It looks positively gorgeously scrumptious!

I am creating ...
Bunny is finished, but haven't taken a photograph yet!  Watch this space!

I have refurbished my Etsy Shop to sell instant downloads of card toppers for people to use with making their own greeting cards, etc.  There are only a few on offer for now.  I have to print out each one myself and scan it before I can put it up and ink is so expensive, so I am going slow.

No source, but what a cute idea for gift toppers or tree ornaments.  I need to get some wooden clothes pegs!!

Love, LOVE this adorable place setting decoration for Christmas.  From Martha Stewart! But of course!  I do love Martha Stewart.

Loving this.   A DIY Table Top Tree to decorate with during the holidays.  From SiLive.com

A really cute Christmas Card Journal.   From The Creative Place.  I love it!

I am going ...
Dog groomers today.  Cleaning the chapel on Friday.   Stake Conference this weekend.  Other than that, not a lot planned!

I am reading ...

A Year in the Life of Downton Abbey, by Jessica Fellowes

It's 1924 and there have been many changes at Downton Abbey since the family and their servants first welcomed us there twelve years ago. A generation of men has been tragically lost at the front; children are once again breathing new life into the great house; a chauffeur now sits at the Grantham dinner table; and skirt hems continue to rise.

Still, in the midst of all this upheaval, many things at Downton remain largely unchanged. Nanny still holds sway in the nursery, and there are still summer fetes to be organized, menus to be planned, and farms to be run.

This gorgeous book explores the seasonal events and celebrations of the great estate—including house parties, debutantes, the London Season, yearly trips to Scotland, the sporting season, and, of course, the cherished rituals of Christmas. Jessica Fellowes and the creative team behind Downton Abbey invite us to peer through the prism of the house as we learn more about the lives of our favorite characters, the actors who play them, and those who bring this exquisite world to real life.

A Year in the Life of Downton Abbey is packed full of exclusive new photographs, with a delicious array of traditional British recipes adapted for modern kitchens: kedgeree, orange marmalade, asparagus tarts, cream of watercress soup, Irish stew, lemon barley water, meringues with red berries, parmesan straws, Christmas pudding with brandy butter and more. From the moment when the servants light the fires against the chill of January, through the last family game of charades and the servants' Christmas ball, this magnificent book invites us to take part in twelve months in the life of Downton Abbey.

It's an easy and entertaining read.  If you are a fan of Downtown, I highly recommend!  Enjoying every page!

I am hoping ...
That all of our financial comittments will be made this month.  Of course I hope that every month.  It seems to be getting harder and harder.  I think it is the same for everyone.

Makes me smile ...

Doesn't it make you smile too?

I am learning ...
Make every day count.  Find the miraculous in the every day ordinary.  See each other as God sees us.

Around the house ...

From Krystals Kitsch how to create a Cleaning Schedule that works.  I need all the help I can get in this area.   I am so disorganized.

Make your own Cinnamon Scented Pinecones from EHow.  I love cinnamon scented anything.

A DIY Spoon Mirror from Craftaholics Anonymous.   Love this idea.  People are so smart!

The Top 10 Furniture Makeovers.   Love this.   From The 36th Avenue.

From Living Well Spending Less, 31 Days to a Clutter Free Life.  I wonder if this would work for me?

I am pondering ...
What am I going to make for supper tonight.   hmmm . . .

Is there any other kind???  I think not.   I don't like any other kind.

A peek into my day  ...

Yes, I am one of those people who waste a bit of time each day on games like this one, my newest one that I am playing.  I forget what level I am on.   I think they help the brain to keep thinking and help with the eye hand co-ordination.  I am hopeless at word puzzles, but I do love this sort of thing.  Don't worry, I only play until I run out of lives, which . . . regrettably doesn't take very long, lol

And that's my day book for this week!
