Wednesday this and that chat . . .

Yesterday was one of "those" days.  I am sure you know what I mean because we all have them.  First of all  . . .  one of our fish died.  We are not sure how or why.  The rest seem perfectly alright.  Just one of those things I guess.

Todd was backing out of the drive and someone hit him.   People tend to park their cars all along our road.  It's very difficult to get out of the drive.  Most of the time you are trying to get out between two cars that have you right hemmed in.  Its been an accident waiting to happen for a very long time.  People drive up it very fast.  The speed limit is only 20, but they all do more than that.  I tend to think the other driver wasn't paying attention and was driving far too fast.  She had a car full of kids and was probably distracted.  If she had been paying attention and driving slower, she would have seen him pulling out and been able to stop and blow on her horn before she hit him.  Ripped the whole bumper off of our car and did a job on her front passenger side and a nice scrape all along her car.  Thankfully nobody was hurt.  That was main concern.   Todd was pretty shaken up.  So was the other driver.  Hysterical actually.

Of course the insurance wants to write the car off.  By the time we paid the deductable, there would be nothing left because it is a very old car.  17 years old.  We just spent £350 on the rear shocks.  We told the insurance people we will try to fix it ourselves.  We cannot afford to buy another car, even second hand.  we will just have to suck it up and do what we have to do.  Thankfully we had comprehensive so the other driver's car will be sorted no problem.

Bad day . . .

And then  . . .  both of our brine shrimp which were in our fish tank died.  They were fine and then they were not.  Sigh  . . .

But there was still plenty of good about the day.

All the kiddos are back to school and I got some Back To School photos of Gabe and Luke.  (And Daddy Anthony) I was so pleased about that.  They both like their teachers very much.  Luke looks sad, but only because his mom was not allowed to go in with him.  Two very handsome little boys and I love the matching outfits.  They will be wearing them again in a couple of days because it will be picture day.  So soon!

And then they facetimed me after school to tell us all about their first day and to wish Todd an early Happy Birthday.  I am so very grateful for the thoughtfulness of a Daughter In Law I love very much.

No other back to school photos, but I did get to facetime briefly with the three "J's" on Monday as well as their dad, Doug.   I think the only one who was seriously looking forward to "Back to School" was dad.  ☺  He was looking forward to a bit of peace and quiet I think.

When I was a child I love, LOVED the first day back to school.  New books, new class, new teacher, new bookbag/pencils/crayons/scribblers etc. and if I was lucky a new pair of shoes.  All plus's in my book!

I was very saddened to learn that my dear friend Lura's husband John has been diagnosed with chronic lymphocytic leukemia.  They are the sweetest couple I know and have always been such an inspiration to me, well the whole family has actually, but I have a tender place in my heart for Lura and John.  These last few years have been a real trial for them with lots of different health issues, but this is just the worst.   Please keep them both in your prayers.  I know they will appreciate them very much.

Lastly I want to wish my dear Todd a very Happy 78th Birthday today.  I love him so very much.  I am so grateful that he wasn't seriously hurt yesterday.  I hope and pray that today will be a much better day for him.  We have friends coming over for a late lunch, so that will help!

And with that I will leave you with a thought for today  . . .

  1. Good morning my darling girl. I am so sorry about the car and the fright Todd had. I hope he can put it behind him and have a happy day today.

Right now I am in Macca's as Beth was not needed at rehearsals tonight. This is great for her as she has a heap of marking and two assignments due this week. It isn't great for me as I woke at three am with the beginnings of a migraine. It hasn't reached it's full strength but I wish I was home being quiet. Today I drove mum to Redcliffe to the dentist. She had broken three teeth while he was on holiday. We popped into a quilt store and I didn't buy a thing. Lots of things called my name but I ignored them.

God bless you both. Have a very happy birthday Todd.

  2. How sad to here of the car being hit. I hope you can get it fixed. I know that when my car was hit, the frame was bent and that is why it was totaled. Happy Birthday to your hubby. Glad you'll have some friends in to help celebrate! Spaghetti is comfort food for sure. I'll check out your recipe!

  4. Oh Marie what a day you certainly had. Poor Tod I hope that he is not suffering any after effects today. Please give him my love and seeing it's his birthday an extra big hug xx..insurance companies really are a llama unto themselves. It's such an extra cost for you after all the extra recently with the car. But it would be very hard to live without it, to go almost anywhere you need the car. I will pray that you can have it repaired very soon and as cheaply as possible. Do you not know of anyone in church who knows about cars etc..perhaps they could help..I know how quick you are to offer help to anyone, perhaps noes the time for that help to be returned to you.
It has been a beautiful day down here, I am actually sitting outside at the moment it's so lovely listening to the birds chirruping away, the white fluffy clouds are slowly moving in the blue sky. Perhaps soon I will see a hot air balloon or even a few. Over on the rec, I can hear the wee ones still playing about. Thankfully I have felt much b Ther today and have managed to get. Few things tidied up for my visitor arriving next week have managed to empty three drawers in the bedroom, thanks to Lyn who helped me greatly.....I'm so sorry about Kohn and Lura, they were so brave to hold back the news from the family until after the wedding. I pray that Johns illness will respond to any treatment they might decide upon after his next scan...meantime we must all keep him sustained in our prayers,,,,,night night xxx

  5. We managed to buy a bumper at a scrap yard that we need to have put on Suzan, but had a call from the insurance that the other driver is now claiming for injuries. Makes me angry because she swore up and down at the time she wasn't hurt, nobody was hurt and even told the police nobody was hurt. Sorry about your mom's teeth. God bless you all also. xoxo

I hope you like the recipe Pam! xoxo

It is a drag for sure Monique. Todd did have a lovely Birthday however, which was a blessing! xoxo

Just one of those days Sybil. We all have them! Thanks for the Birthday wishes for him, I will be happy to let him know as well as everyone elses!! You are right Sybil, we must sustain both John and Lura in our prayers. I have put her in touch with a Canadian of my friend who has been living with the same cancer for five years now. Hopefully they will be able to learn a few things from her and she can give them hope. Love and hugs. xoxo

Your comments mean the world to me, and while I may not be able to address each one individually, each one is important to me and each one counts. Thanks so much!
