The Glimmer of Hope . . .

Oh how our God must weep at times . . .  when He looks down at the beautiful world He created with the Saviour and sees what His children are doing to it, how they are behaving towards each other . . . how they are turning their backs on Him and all that is good.

It is a strange world indeed when millions of souls spend hours chasing pokemon through parks. What is a pokemon anyways???  A figment of someone's imaginations  . . .  they chase the imaginary and ignore what is real.

There was a time, and not so long ago  . . .  that if you asked people if they believed in God, most of them would say yes.  Now most would say no . . . preferring instead to place their faith in the frailities of imperfect beings . . .  and imaginations.  Replacing the God who is the source of all light and love with the god of money, and greed . . .  avarice and selfishness . . . bigotry and hate . . .  the opposite of light and of love.  The god of false and empty promises and hollow feet   . . . and make no mistake about it,  he exists and is real.

Oh how he must be rubbing his hands in glee at the moment, because at the moment it looks  like he is winning.

But really he is not.  Its just that his voice is louder.  If you listen very carefully, you can still hear that still small voice of truth in the world, and that is the one we need to listen to.

Let us not give up in despair in the face of all the evil which we see encroaching around us.  Let us believe and hope in that small glimmer of light which still flickers and which gives us direction in the darkening night.  Let us fill our lamps with the oil of peace and of love and of all that is good.

It is found in the young man who gives up his seat on the bus to an elderly passenger . . . in the face of that cashier at the grocery store who smiles and sings as she is pushing your items through . . . in all the good deeds and random acts of kindness and selfless love which still exist, in selfless service to others . . . in men who still open doors for women, and in children who still love their parents and in countless other ways that are still meaningful and pure and  . . . well . . . just  good.

It is that person who pays for your groceries when you come up short yourself . . .  it is in the baskets at the foodbanks which are filled each week by donations from those who have and are willing to give . . . in hands which reach out to help the needy, the poor, the downtrodden, the sick and the weary.

It may only be a glimmer, but it is there and it only takes a glimmer of light to mark the way and to chase away the dark . . .

For every "one" that takes  . . .  there are two others who would "give."  Know this to be true.   Love, kindness, truth, HOPE, light, selflessness  . . . they will  never disappear, and rest assured that when you see these things . . .  you are seeing a reflection of the face of God.  And He is real.  And He is love.  And He has not gone away.

And . . . .  He WILL win.

Just my thoughts this morning.  Prayers being said for France and Turkey, and . . . . the World we live in.

A thought to carry with you through the day . . .

"The very moment you begin
 to seek your Heavenly Father,
in that moment, the hope of His light
will begin to awaken,
enliven, and ennoble your soul.
The darkness may not
dissipate all at once,
but as surely as night
always gives way to dawn,
the light will come."

In The English Kitchen today  . . .  a Simple Cherry Crumble Tart.  So simple and so good.

May your Saturday be filled with the glimmer of hope and with love, kindnesses, peace and yes, joy.  Don't forget  . . .

  1. Good morning Marie. Last night at dinner someone said something in jest and was gobsmacked when I said that tattooing foreheads was in Revelation. She had no idea about the Bible but her family declares themselves to be atheist. I suggested that she read the book and other books in the Bible slowly and with care. I also suggested she look for a concordance. She is a very smart lady.

God bless you day and many you really feel his love surrounding you. I am feeling blah. The sky is grey and rain is falling. I am battling a migraine. Stupidly I drank a small amount of wine last night to be sociable.

Pip is much better today. She was so happy to wake up feeling much better.

  2. Its all there for those who are willing to read and take it in Suzan. Sadly so many are not. I am sorry you have a migraine. That was Todd yesterday. The changes in air pressure when we have grey skies and bad weather really affect him. I hope you feel better soon. Glad Pip is feeling better today. xoxo

  5. Lovely thoughts for today Marie. My brother and his wife live in Nice as well as my niece Anna, her husband and their eight year old son, William. They had intended to go to the celebrations, as they always do, but William had been naughty so as his punishment they didn't go. God certainly works in mysterious ways! They live very close to the promenade so actually heard a lot of what was happening. It is dangerous times we live in. And I was talking to my sister about it last night when she told me that she and her husband had just booked a three week holiday in Turkey for September! After waking this morning to see all the trouble there now I don't know what will happen. Lots of love xxx

  6. That is perfectly fine Bonnie! I don't mind in the least! Thank you for your lovely comment! I often think of that day we spent together in the cafe at the Cathedral! Wish we could do it again! xoxo

You are very right about that Pam! God bless you! xoxo

    I did too Monique! oxox

Thank goodness your family did not go Kate. Not a co-incidence I don't think. Your nephew was a life saver there for sure! God does indeed work in mysterious ways! What is even scarier is the EU's intention of bringing in Turkey. Methinks we are getting out just in time. Such frightening times, but God is in charge and we must trust in Him. Love and hugs. xoxo
