My favourite things . . . .

These are a few of my favourite things  . . .

Watching the sun rise each morning . . . and it doesn't matter if it is raining, or snowing, or just peaceful.  A sunrise is a beautiful thing to behold.  It reaches the innermost parts of our being . . .  to me it speaks of a loving Heavenly Father who is always there, reliable . . . dependable . . . just waiting for me to reach out, to drink in . . . teaching  me that as sure as the sun will set at the end of this day, I can know with impunity that it will rise again in the morning, and on every morning.  This is hope, and that is something we all can trust in.

I love good Crime Dramas on television.   I just adore sinking my teeth into an entertaining, thought provoking Who-dun-it!  Grantchester, Spooks, Silent Witness, Scott and Baily, Inspector George Gently, Endeavor, Unforgotten, Inspector Frost, Luther, Waking the Dead, Ripper Street . . .  all good.  Nine times out of ten I am completely wrong about who actually dun it!  But I think that's the way they plan them!  Love, LOVE these types of shows.

Tomato sandwiches.   Ripe tomatoes.   Squishy white bread with chewy crusts.  A good mayonnaise.  Lots of salt and cracked black pepper.  I am in heaven.  It doesn't need bacon.  Or cheese.  Or anything fancy at all.  Just tomato, bread, mayo and seasoning.  Bliss.

Poetry.  I love to read it.  I love to write it.  Words strung together in a way that is meaningful.   It touches hearts and souls.  I suppose in a way Scripture is a type of poetry.  Especially Songs of Solomon, the Psalms and Proverbs.   Love those books, and I love  . . .  poetry.

Puttering.  I love to putter.   I can't stand to just sit around and do nothing.  I must be doing something, even if it is needlework, playing a game, dusting, praying, studying, reading, etc.   I like to fill my days with purpose and meaning.

Garden Catalogues.  I love to sit and leaf through garden catalogues and plan and dream . . .  about what I would plant here and what I want to plant there.   I've always loved seed and garden catalogues and I love going through garden centres also and looking at all the plants.  I used to do coloured drawings of what I wanted my garden to look like . . .  embroidery pictures of gardens, etc.  I guess I just love gardens and yes, garden catalogues.

Making lists.  I am a list maker.   If you were to look through my scrapbooks, and notebooks, you would find that they are full of lists and always have been.  I was going through one just yesterday and in it I found a list of clothes that I was going to get my middle son for school that year . . .  all itemized, catalogue numbers, prices, etc.  there was also a list of what I was getting for who for Christmas.  Menu plans, which are other types of lists.  Shopping lists.  Prayer lists.    I love making lists.

Following them and fulfilling them is another matter completely! ;-)

Visiting historical properties and gardens.  That is why I love the National Trust.  We haven't been able to afford a membership for a few years now, but I loved belonging to it when we could.  I love to visit these old and restored homes, castles, gardens, etc.  Small glimpses into other worlds . . .  into history, which is another great love of mine.  I could spend hours at these places.   I could see the same places time and time again.   I think they are quite simply National Treasures, and I never tire of them.   Going to Hilltop Farm, which was Beatrix Potter's home is still on my bucket list.  Every time we have gone in the past, it's been uber busy and we've not gotten in.  That and Chatsworth House . . .  one day we will go there, to each of those and Highclear as well.

Feeding the missionaries, which reminds me . . .  the Sisters are coming today for their tea.  First time I have felt like really feeding someone in about two weeks, so I best get off here.   If you ever have the chance to feed a missionary do it.  You won't regret it.   They always bring such a special spirit into your home.  What a blessing it is to feed them.

And they love nothing better than a good meal.  A warm home. A chance to rest their feet. And someone to talk to.

 A thought to carry with you through today  . . . .

  1. Good morning Marie. I am very late today. I need to go to bed in the next 30 minutes or so and here I am saying good morning. Tomato is a gift. Fresh of the vine, little tomatoes, are a sweet treat and sadly our vines have died. Love tomato sandwiches and Aussie school kids used to fight over squished hot tomato sangers at lunch time. I kid you not. I guess my kids think they had it tough but we had kids who just had sauce on their bread and that was it.

I hope you feel well enough to enjoy the missionaries today. I spent my day at two different hospitals. Mum had to see her gastro-enterologist and then we moved on to the complex where dad lives. I spent my day knitting chickens for the nuns to sell for easter. I will post a picture when they are done.

    God bless.

  3. That sounds like a very full day Suzan! I would love to see your chicks when done. I Picked myself up some knitting needles and yarn today. I have not knitted in years. I fancy knitting a tea cosy. I don't even have a tea pot, but maybe if I knit the cosy one will come? Do you think? haha When I was at school there were some kids who didn't even have a lunch. I used to share. Kids today don't know how good they have it! xoxo

Grantchester 2 is on now Monique! We have watched the first episode. He's brilliant that actor. Have you seen Happy Valley? He plays a really nasty character in that and is brill a that also, plus he had a major roll in War and Peace, which I know you will love! xoxo

  5. Thanks LeAnn! I guess I am pretty much an open book! I will say for sure that I am far better with the written word than the spoken word. When it comes to speaking out loud, I get all tongue tied! xoxo

Your comments mean the world to me, and while I may not be able to address each one individually, each one is important to me and each one counts. Thanks so much!
