Sigh . . .

I had a lovely breakfast with my father yesterday.  It is such a blessing for me to be able to have breakfast with him. Something which just a year ago I could not have imagined.  His treat too, which is nice, although I would gladly pay to spend time with him.  I know it means a lot to him to have company when he goes for breakfast, but I wonder sometimes if he knows how much it means to me.  Probably not.

I was a bit miffed with the waitress yesterday.  She stuck us at a cramped tiny table right next to the toilets. My father goes there every Saturday and Sunday mornings. Has done for years.  He is not a customer who is hard to please. He is courteous and polite. He always leaves a very generous tip.  He likes to have his toast on an extra plate. He doesn't like it on his eggs. There was very little space at that tiny table, not when you take into consideration that there were other things on it besides our plates.  He did say at the start that he thought the table too small and couldn't we sit elsewhere and I thought she was very rude to him in her manner. I know that Saturdays are busy.  But I saw other groups of two people come in after and they were seated at tables for four. Some even at tables for 8. I don't think it was too much to ask for a regular customer to be seated at a more generous table or to be treated with courtesy.

It really bothers me when people are unkind in their manner towards my dad.  I know he is old and sometimes he likes to look at the ladies too much. But he is never unkind to others. I was just really miffed by her attitude.  I would have been saying . . . "no tip for you!" if I had been paying, but I wasn't so I bit my tongue.  It wasn't just the table, it was her whole attitude.  She was curt and unpleasant. Maybe she was just having a bad day, but at the end of the day, it costs nothing to be kind, and there are always two ways to say or do anything.  One doesn't mind taking bad medicine if it is sugar coated.

I guess we just live in a different world these days. Nice no longer matters to some.

Getting off my soap box now.  I don't have a lot of time this morning. I was up early and watched church in the UK, and now have to get ready to go to church here.  I must go and get ready, so I will leave you with a thought and a promise that I will be back tomorrow with much more to day, and it won't be a moan and a groan!

A thought to carry with you  . . .

  1. A word to the manager or owner wouldn’t go amiss.

    1. I think you are right, but my father wouldn't like the fuss. xoxo

  2. If that had been your dad's first visit, he might not have come back. What a shabby way to treat a devoted customer. Enjoy your Sunday, Marie. Love and hugs, Elaine

    1. I thought so also. My father has hopelessly thick skin however and did not even really notice that she was not being very nice, or if he did he chose to ignore. Love and hugs, xoxo

    1. A smile does go a very long way for sure! I think it is wonderful that you can go to lunch with your grandsons from time to time. Darn this Covid and all that it has stolen from us! My dad will have a roving eye til the day he dies and even then it may not stop, lol xoxo

  4. We were treated very rudely at a place we had gone to much, a few years ago (they did not like that I had to ask for certain things to be left off my plate due to allergies). We simply have not gone back. It is not our desire to want to bother anyone. Though someone who tips and pays cash for their bill must not be of value these days. I wish you and your dad could find a different place to eat...even if you had to drive a bit to get there. It could make a big difference in your eating pleasure!!

  5. I love you because you are real and tell it how it is. I would be upset too. I feel sad at the lack of respect of older people in today's world. I think respect in general is not good.
I love that you can still see the Church meeting in the UK. I hope you have a lovely day in your meetings. Have a delightful Sabbath! Blessings and hugs!

    1. I think there is a general lack of respect for everything and everyone these days LeAnn. We live in a world where people just don't seem to care any more. Thank goodness for the gospel. I do love my meetings on both sides of the pond! Blessings and hugs, xoxo

  6. I would of certainly told the manager on my way out bc there’s no need to be rude to a customer!
That happened to me a few times and I would not leave a tip and I let the manager know why, so it wouldn’t happen to anyone else!

One time they didn’t have a napkin or knife at my table and I said something when she was at the next table and she completely ignored me!
So I got up and took it from another table and she was pissed at me bc she had to reset that place! Lol
The food also took along time and she never asked if we needed anything or explained why!

Another time I asked for water and she took her time getting me one and flirting with some guys along the way! So I asked a guy that was clearing a table and it got there faster bc he stopped and brought me one.
Then she slammed my glass of water next to me that she brought and I almost wore it! Then swore at me calling me a bunch of names bc she was entitled to a tip from me, so she said! Never forgot that day or her!

That’s why I would rather cook my own food or go to a friend’s house to eat.
    Stay safe Marie!

    1. Oh, it is lovely eating at a friends J. Why does food other people cook always taste so much better than our own? Its a mystery to me! Your restaurant experience sounds positively appalling! Some people are just unbelievably rude!xoxo
