The Simple Woman's Day Book

FOR TODAY, February 9th, 2016

Outside my window ...
All appears calm, but it's cold and wet.  Winter.  Todd said yesterday that he's never known such a wet winter.  One does get rather sick of the rain.  Sigh . . .

I am thinking ...
About my hospital appointment yesterday and I am inwardly seething.  I had my Upper Endoscopy on November 5th.  Thankfully the results for everything were positive.  There doesn't appear to be any problems there and I am not coeliac.  But, irregardless of the fact that my stool sample tests all came back as being negative for bowel cancer in November, the specialist still feels that there is a distinct possibility that I might  have bowel cancer and wants me to have a colonoscopy so I am now in a queue waiting for that, (it should happen in about 4 weeks) with a return appointment to go back and see the specialist on the 9th of May for the results, which is what  . . .  six months after the initial Endoscopy?   JUST NOT GOOD ENOUGH.  If you think someone has cancer, surely these types of things should be expediated.  Not that I am looking forward to having a colonoscopy, because I am not . . .  but I also don't like to think that I am sitting here waiting and waiting and waiting on something, which if I do have it, treatment should be started more sooner rather than later.  I am feeling a tad bit angry and more than a little frustrated with it all.

I am thankful for ...
Prayer.  And I would really appreciate all of yours in the coming months.  I believe strongly in the power of prayer.  I know that at the end of the day what will be will be, but in the meantime, prayer will surely help to at least calm my heart and fears.

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. ~Jeremiah 29:11

In the kitchen ...

Sixteen different kinds of pancakes including a great recipe for Traditional British Pancakes.  Happy Pancake Day!

This Chicken Parmesan Soup looks gorgeous. Perfect for a wet rainy winter's day.  From Peas and Crayons.

 I am creating ...

I picked up myself these papers for my next paper project.  I am just in love with them.  I've found a project I like but I am sadly lacking in materials to make it and money.  So I will have to gather them as and when I can.   I need a score board and one of these  . . .

I have put them on my wish list and so we will see.  I also need Kraft paper, which I can't seem to find.

The project is this Accordian Mini Album which I found on A Soul's Heartbeat.  There is an excellent tutorial on YouTube and I thought it would be the perfect way to store all the photographs of the grandchildren which I have been collecting.

French Knot Bees.  Oh I do love Bees . . .  I couldn't find a source.

I love this Crochet Sweater.  Free pattern from Naturally Caron.

I adore this little altered Altoid tin.  A story box from Little Burrow Designs.  You know how I love mini worlds.  Sigh . . .

I think these  mittens are really cute.  It's really annoying that I can't find mine!  I paid a lot of money for them too!  Sigh . . . I couldn't find a source for these either.  But I love the simplicity of them.  They make me think of a softer gentler era, Call the Midwife-ish.

I am reading ...

The Signature of All Things, by Elizabeth Gilbert

Elizabeth Gilbert’s first novel in twelve years is an extraordinary story of botany, exploration and desire, spanning across much of the 19th century. The novel follows the fortunes of the brilliant Alma Whittaker (daughter of a bold and charismatic botanical explorer) as she comes into her own within the world of plants and science. As Alma’s careful studies of moss take her deeper into the mysteries of evolution, the man she loves draws her in the opposite direction—into the realm of the spiritual, the divine and the magical. Alma is a clear-minded scientist; Ambrose is a Utopian artist. But what unites this couple is a shared passion for knowing—a desperate need to understand the workings of this world, and the mechanism behind of all life.

The Signature of All Things is a big novel, about a big century. Exquisitely researched and told at a galloping pace, this story novel soars across the globe—from London, to Peru, to Philadelphia, to Tahiti, to Amsterdam and beyond. It is written in the bold, questing spirit of that singular time. Alma Whittaker is a witness to history, as well as maker of history herself. She stands on the cusp of the modern, with one foot still in the Enlightened Age, and she is certain to be loved by readers across the world.

Still a page turner.   I am just so tired nights, that I only get a few pages read before I am falling asleep.

Looking forward to ...
We are going to visit friends today.  Tina, who had her knee operation a few weeks back.  It will be so good to see her.  We have spoken on the telephone and she is doing well, but I am looking forward to seeing her in person.

I am learning ...
It appears my patience still needs work.  It's being tried.

Dreaming about ...

  1. Oh dear Marie, that is certainly not good enough to wait so long for further investigation...I thought that it was almost a law that if cancer was suspected you had to have an appointment and follow up within 6 weeks...did you get a date for the coloniscope ?....I'm really shocked...you are as you know always in my prayers but that is something else to ask our dear Lord to take care of....
Hope your visit today goes well. Thank goodness it was not yesterday, down with us we had the strongest gales I have ever heard..it howled and we had torrential rain almost all day..think the gales calmed down around ten last night, thank goodness...nice dry and calm now but think it feels quite cold. As it is shrove Tuesday Helen our new church worker is having a pancake afternoon from three till four thirty..we are hoping that perhaps Mums will bring in the children on way home from school...hope so as it is the first thing she has organised...take care love to Todd and not forgetting Mitzie xxx

  2. Hi, Marie! Happy Pancake Day! :) We've had a lot of stormy weather this winter--either rain or snow. And such wind, seemingly all the time... *sigh*... Is it spring yet?! ;) But my goodness, what's about this wait for a colonoscopy??!! That is just outrageously long, if they are suspecting cancer (which I fervently pray it is not, my friend!) Why the long wait? Are there that many in the queue waiting?! Please keep us posted on this. An we pray in the meantime! Oh, a happier note--LOVE the fiber projects! That crochet cardi is especially lovely! And LOVE that pic of Baxter and Lucy--too cute!! Be taking good care there... ((LOVE & BIG HUGS))

  3. Oh Marie,

It isn't good enough. I have been waiting to have my gall bladder out since 2008. It is horrible to be pushed around like that. It is not acceptable when they start talking cancer. Hugs and love and prayer.

Today has been a dreadful day for me so I hope everything positive that missed me comes your way.

    God bless.

  4. I'm glad anyway that test you had turned out well. I cannot help but wonder at why the doctor thinks that cancer is a possibility. Here they are strongly recommending colonoscopy for anyone over 50. I think they go way overboard on testing and I refused. Patience waiting will be hard for you, but trust that all will be well and keep the faith. It seems things always happen for a reason.

  5. Definitely totally frustrating to hear..there is a possibility of something..yet having to wait..we have been there..could you apply pressure..or find a priate source for your colonoscopy?
I know that waiting and worrying is just awful on the nerves..
In this situation many are being tried..not just you..seems like that though doesn't it..as our thoughts take up so much space in our mind..thank goodness you have passions..hobbies..duties..to make the time stand less still!!

  6. They say I should have the colonoscopy in about 4 weeks time Sybil. They took a lot of blood tests yesterday. I will should get a letter soon to tell me the date of the dreaded procedure. I am most surprised that they are taking so long for these tests. From what I saw on the television I thought the government had set guidelines that anyone with suspected cancer would be seen to within a certain period of time. By the time all is said and done this will have been six months of procedures and waiting. I just don't understand it. I wish I had the money to pay for one on my own, but alas, like most people I just do not. Thank you so much for your prayers. They mean a lot to me. xoxo PS - yes we did have a lovely sunny day for travel today and a very nice visit.

Thanks Tracy, I can only think that our health care system must be greatly over-burdened here in England. Your prayers are also very much appreciated. Oh yes, projects are a great way to keep the mind busy and off things! xoxo

Thanks Suzan, your prayers also mean so much to me. God bless you. I am sorry you have had to wait so long for your gall bladder op! That's terrible!xoxo

Pam, the Doctor says that the type of anemia that I have can only be caused from internal bleeding and that it is most probably cancer. Very reassuring I can tell you. He wasn't very comforting at all. I know that Doctors have a lot on their plates now with Government cut backs and being over-burdened with too many patients. It's getting to a crisis level I feel. Thanks for your care and support. xoxo

I am very grateful for the busyness of my days Monique. It does help and is another blessing of being on a mission. Thanks so much for your happy thoughts and support! I know I am not the only one in this boat. There are so many who are worse off. xoxo

  7. I shall be praying that you get that testing earlier. Yes, it is totally unacceptable!

  9. I can think of another cause and a thorough colonoscopy is needed and it is generally found when they use a camera tablet. I hope that there is nothing sinister.

If only we were closer and postage was not so ludicrous as I have two score boards and envelope boards. Don't ask how. I would happily give you some as they are clutter when one only uses one at a time now that I am not teaching paper craft.

  10. Dearest Marie: Can you ever go to another specialist for a 2nd opinion or change doctors. I think that would be a good things to do. That being said Colon cancer is slow growing. However, I do feel like they should not make you wait until May; that is so acceptable in health care at all. Number one concern is fear of the unknown is not fun at all and to have to wait is cruel. I do hope that you have some options of some sort.
I always love your Daybook. You are just so fun and you always come up with some great links. I loved the crocheted sweater and the adorable gloves. I like bees too. The cute picture of the dogs together was fun.
Always love your quotes and recipes.
Thanks for always blogging something fun. You are the best dear friend. You will be in my prayers and I am sending huge hugs your way. I to am looking forward to Spring.

  11. Thanks Sandy and Val! Prayers are always welcome. And I do appreciate them. Worry never did any good. I am trying hard not to worry about it. What will be, will be! xoxo

I wish you lived closer too Suzan, and not just because you have extra paper tools going! It would be fun to be able to do things together. You are a dear friend. xoxo

Thanks LeAnn! When it comes to prayers, every little helps and I do so appreciate any you give. We were looking at blooming daffodils yesterday. I think we are in for an early spring here! Love and hugs. xoxo

  12. Dear Marie,
I have said a prayer for you today. I am believing for a quick exam and that there is no cancer. I am also praying for the Lord to give you peace that passes all understanding. Also praying for peace for your husband.

    Sincerely,
    Julie H from Michigan
