The Simple Woman's Daybook . . .

FOR TODAY,  November 18th, 2014

Outside my window ...
It's pitch black.   And cold.  The fish in the pond have stopped feeding now.   Winter's definitely coming . . .

I am thinking ...

I know they are cute, but I don't understand why people breed teacup dogs, or tiny horses, or any other miniature animals like they do.  I have always heard that it's not healthy for the animals and that they have tons of health problems because their body's cannot support their internal organs which have tendency to be regular sized.  I don't know if this is true or not, perhaps someone can enlighten me.  I know how much I love our Mitzie and I would hate to think that her life span would not be as great or as healthy as it will be because her genetics had been manipulated to the point where they were jeopardised . . .  simply so that she could fit in my purse.

I am thankful ...

This is a time when  Picture can say a thousand words.  The Temples of our Lord.

In The Kitchen ...

In the English Kitchen today  . . .  Whistle Dogs.  Not the healthiest, but very scrumptious!

On my "to cook" list ...

Pecan Pie Cake.  This looks some good.  From Sugary Sweets.

I am creating ...

I am in the process of making these adorable little gingerbread house Christmas Ornaments that I got from Gingermelon.  I have had the pattern for several years now.  Just getting around to doing them.   They are very tiny and the work is painstaking, but a lot of fun.

I just love these pillow covers.   Found on Renate's Hooks.  It's in Dutch but the page translates to English.

These pencil toppers are adorable.   From Erica Catarina Ei Menina.  Spanish, but again there is a translator button.  What a cute blog!

Patchwork Posse, free Elf on the Shelf pattern!  Plus there are accessories!

What beautiful little girls' dresses.  I love them.  A mix of knit and fabric.  From Tricoting.  Italian, but once again a translator button is available.

I am going  ...
I think I am going Visit Teaching this week, but I'm not entirely sure.  It's a quiet week pretty much.

I am reading ...

The Clan of the Cave Bear, by Jean M Auel
This novel of awesome beauty and power is a moving saga about people, relationships, and the boundaries of love. Through Jean M. Auel’s magnificent storytelling we are taken back to the dawn of modern humans, and with a girl named Ayla we are swept up in the harsh and beautiful Ice Age world they shared with the ones who called themselves the Clan of the Cave Bear. A natural disaster leaves the young girl wandering alone in an unfamiliar and dangerous land until she is found by a woman of the Clan, people very different from her own kind. To them, blond, blue-eyed Ayla looks peculiar and ugly--she is one of the Others, those who have moved into their ancient homeland; but Iza cannot leave the girl to die and takes her with them. Iza and Creb, the old Mog-ur, grow to love her, and as Ayla learns the ways of the Clan and Iza’s way of healing, most come to accept her. But the brutal and proud youth who is destined to become their next leader sees her differences as a threat to his authority. He develops a deep and abiding hatred for the strange girl of the Others who lives in their midst, and is determined to get his revenge.

I have read this several times before.  I always enjoy it and re-read it every couple of years or so.  It's like an old friend whom I love to visit from time to time.

I am hoping ...
That my mom is okay.  My sister had to take her to the Dr yesterday.   We think she has a bladder infection.

Makes me smile ...

Having done this both ways, I know this to be true.  So happy to have found a person to share my life with that I am evenly spiritually yoked with.

I am learning ...
To be more tolerant and overcome my weaknesses.  It is a daily on-going process.  Some days I do better than others.

Around the house ...

What a wonderfully unique way to disguise the doorway into another room.  With antique wardrobe doors!  I love it!!

What a sweet little sleeping nook!  Wouldn't this be a cute little place for grandchildren who come to spend the night to sleep.  I live in hope.  One day . . .

Sigh . . . I wish.

 Stenciled wooden floors . . .  sigh . . .

Can you imagine being able to while away the hours here?   I know  . . .  double sigh . . .

I am pondering  ...
What will I cook for supper tonight?  Yes, I am one of those annoying people who starts planning their supper even before they have had their breakfast.

A favourite quote for the day  ...

Every day may not be good, but . . . there is something good in every day.

One of my favourite things ...

Miniature worlds.  From the time I was a child and the telly invited me into Susie's mouse hole on Chez Helen, the little chair just big enough for two on the Friendly Giant and Mr Roger's Neighborhood of Make Believe I have been fascinated with little worlds and tiny things.  I like to believe in the probability of the impossible.

A peek into my day ...

I'm always dancing in my head.  I twirl and I whirls and my skirt flares out . . .  you just can't see it.

And that's my day book for this week!

  1. Dearest Marie,

One day I will indulge in my need to create a tiny world. One day.

I loved those dresses and thought them beautiful.

God bless you and keep you today.

Sadly I have one more shore day and then only three days until I am home. As yet I don't feel rested. But I do love my days at sea. So I promise to make the most of them

  2. Here it is very dark and cold too. A good day to stay in and keep warm once more. I made your tomato bean soup yesterday. I had to use some pieces of ham instead of the bacon, but still it turned out good. Soup weather for sure ! Hope you have a terrific Tuesday!

  4. I haven't thought about that book "Clan of the Cave Bear" in years. I too read it and enjoyed it; I must put it on my re-read list.

And Marie --- Get out there in your kitchen and shake your grove thang for real instead of just in your head. It does a body good!

  8. Hi, Marie! Oh, but I'm swooning big over those felt gingerbread houses! Those would be easy to do. I can see lots made up into a garland! Those crochet pillows are GORGEOUS...love the colors too. Your current reading sounds very interesting--had to add this one to my list. Oh, but do hope all is OK with your Mom and that she will be well. :o) Thought I'd visit now, as I don't think I'll have a chance to before we go away on our trip. It's feeling like crunch time to get it all done, packed, etc... LOL! Be taking good care my friend. I'll be in touch soon after we get back ((LOVE & BIG HUGS))

  10. Always a fun Simple Woman's Daybook Entry.I too worry about these little miniature dogs.
The food all looks yummy and I need to make a decision on dinner for tonight. Last night my dear husband put the dinner together for us. He is a good cook; so I love it.
I love the links for the ideas.
I think one of my favorite parts of your daybook is the fun decor in the rooms you find. I would love to read a good book little bed by the window.
Blessings and hugs for you my dear~
