The Simple Woman's Daybook . . .

FOR TODAY, January 5, 2020

Outside my window...
Its dark and cold, but I see a glimmer of a sunrise.

I am thinking ...
First SWD of the year.  How will this year go??  Can't be any worse than last year I suppose, or could it . . .  I dread to think.

I am thankful for ...
That we have a God of second, third, fourth chances . . .

In the kitchen ...

Cheesy Taco Puffs.  Deliciously simple. Totally from scratch.

On my "To Cook" list ...

Half Baked Harvest.  Easy Pull Apart Garlic Parmesan Bread. This looks so good, but everything she makes looks fabulous.

Good to know ...

As a writer it is always good to know different ways of saying the same thing. It adds interest.

I am wanting to create ...

I have always loved this.  Nana & Company. Its such a pretty little needlebook.

Lots of Pink Here.  Sewing and mending kit.

Lolli and Grace, PDF pattern on etsy for these cute ornaments.  They combine all my loves, pretty, embroidery and felt.

Jennifer Jangles.  Little Love Softies.

House of Hawthornes.  DIY Birdseed Cakes.

I am reading ...

The Confession Club, by Elizabeth Berg
In this uplifting novel from the New York Times bestselling author of The Story of Arthur Truluv, good friends discover that the things we fear revealing to others can be the very things that bring us closer together.

When a group of friends in Mason, Missouri, decide to start a monthly supper club, they get more than they bargained for. The plan for congenial evenings—talking, laughing, and sharing recipes, homemade food, and wine—abruptly changes course one night when one of the women reveals something startlingly intimate. The supper club then becomes Confession Club, and the women gather weekly to share not only dinners, but embarrassing misdeeds, deep insecurities, and long-held regrets.

They invite Iris Winters and Maddy Harris to join, and their timing couldn't be better. Iris is conflicted about her feelings for a charming but troubled man, and Maddy has come back home from New York to escape a problem too big to handle alone. The club offers exactly the kind of support they need to help them make some difficult decisions.

The Confession Club is charming, heartwarming, and inspiring. And as in the previous books that take place in Mason, readers will find friendship, community, and kindness on full display.

I am really enjoying this!  I will hate it when I get to the end!

Dreaming About ...

Totally Cath Kidston  . . .

Greengate  . . .

Greengate again  . . .

Tilda birds  . . .

Pip Studio  . . .

Something to watch ...

Rotten on Netflix. This docuseries travels deep into the heart of the food supply chain to reveal unsavory truths and expose hidden forces that shape what we eat

Rotten’s storytelling is grounded in facts, unlike a certain other food documentary that was very popular on Netflix last summer. Many of the stories in Rotten are pulled from the headlines of major newspapers, and feature commentary from the people who lived through these incidents.

I find this totally fascinating.

My sister and I were just talking this morning about
how much we have outsourced everything to China and
what a HUGE mistake that has been and is. We will live to regret it.

Makes me smile ...

Jake always makes me smile. He is a little charmer and he loves talking to me. That does  my heart good.

Jake really is a cutie, you tell he's charming just by him smile!

Everything you posted today looks so springy and I am really ready for spring. We got about 3 inches of new snow last night, but today the skies are sunny and blue.

The book does look good, I'm always looking for a good read.

  4. You and your sister are absolutely right...outsourcing esp. our food supply chain to China is beyond awful...we do not eat a great deal of meat, and try to get it as local as we can. One small grocery store carries the best meat we have found in area...yes, you pay a bit more...but just figure we can cause we eat less. Been focusing of late on more veggie recipes. My current find is a yummy recipe for rainbow swiss chard...it is so delicious, I wake up wanting some!! Love all the creative ideas in this post...ah, if only more time!!
