The Simple Woman's Daybook . . .

FOR TODAY, May 30, 2017

Outside my window ...
It is overcast, but looks like it might clear. I hope it does because I have to go into town to pick up my new glasses.

I am thinking ...
I dreamt about Donnie Osmond last night and his wife.  They kept following me around handing me buckets of money, lol.  Dreams are funny things.

In the kitchen ...

Cheesy Potato Pancakes.  They make a great breakfast addition, but would be equally at home with a piece of chicken or steak!

On my "To Cook" list ...

From Kleinworth and Co, Sugar Cookie Strawberry Pies.  These look delicious!

Good to know ...

I seriously need to do this  . . .

I am creating ...

Sock Monkey Slippers. From Ravelry.  Not free, but not expensive either.

Crafters Boutique.  Free pattern and tutorial for a cute Mushroom Cottage.

Curio Crafts Room, a free pattern for crochet Peacock's Feather.  Makes great bunting.

Cut Out and Keep, a diy Sock Sloth.  Cute!

Six Pocket Bag from Love To Sew.

 Mrs Deckarts Art Room

I am reading ...

Everyman's England, by Victor Canning

"I travelled from King's Cross to Berwick-on-Tweed in a sleeper on the night express for no other reason than that I like to read in bed and, at the same time, feel that I am being rushed forward at a tremendous speed."

In this series of pen-portraits of England, commissioned by The Daily Mail in the 1930s, Victor Canning vividly conjures the pattern and colour of the 'great fabric of English Life' from Cumberland to Cornwall. His heartwarming, humorous and often irreverent observations of sleepy villages, pastoral scenes and busy industries provide a delightful insight into life between the wars.

Thoroughly delightful! I am really enjoying this vision of a slower, simpler, kinder England . . .

I am looking forward to ...
Getting my new eye glasses!

Dreaming about ...

Simple pearls  . . .

Rosary beads  . . .

Summer . . . clothes . . .

A jean jacket . . . I've never had one . . .

A comfy chair to curl up in  . . .

Something to watch ...

The Keepers on Netflix.  Compelling viewing.  Who killed Sister Cathy?  Brilliant documentary. In parts.

  1. Good morning Marie. You are fanning my dream to go back to England. Thank you for the watercolour tips. I want to do more of that. I had a jean jacket that my mother made me in the late 70s. It was bright purple denim because I was madly in love with Donny Osmond too. We have a beach called Fingal Heads not far from here. IT has the same tessellated stones. Now I have seen the Scottish one I am reminded I was trying to get a spot dow there before Pip has her baby,

I am so torn about the rosary beads. I bought myself as set as memory from Notre Dame. A few weeks later I was sort of accosted by a man from a mission called Fishers of Men. He told me I needed to exorcised of the evil that cursed my family and to get rid of the beads. I love the picture of the beads you have shared. My father's side of the family are Catholic and very seriously Catholic. I never liked the way the Rosary was rattled off at funerals. I used to use beads to pray when I was little and changed my prayer with each bead.

Anyway God bless your day and always. I hope Todd has more energy today.

  2. First of all..your Donnie Osmond dream gave me a real smile..

    how funny..

Well my dear it's time you bought a jean jacket.
    I feel 20 in mine..

    until I see my face..lol..

all kidding aside..it makes me feel young..w/ long skirts or pants but with a long top w/a ruffle hanging out..

I can't believe I once wore hip huggers and no muffin top happened;)

Of course I can't believe I once couldn't fit in jeans either:(

Marie..I am trying to learn to crochet..
I received some beautiful dishcloths...and I just have to..I picture a cute pile in my kitchen..a PILE LOL..

    I am on take 90 I think..

I am going to get this..gosh those cotton dishcloths are the best counter..sink wipes ever.

I could tell you a story about how crosses can be perceived:( A few..

    I love my rosary beads.
It seems my mom never went to bed w/out hers.
    What were her prayers?
    I wish I knew.
Cannnot wait to see your new glasses..I find glasses..can add so much charm to a face..

wish someone would find some that did that for me lol..

  3. Oh Suzan, I don't believe that Rosary Beads contain evil or that your family is cursed. Rantings of a slightly crazy man perhaps? I do think that we can make negative things happen by attaching negative feelings or thoughts to pretty much anything, a self fulfilling prophecy if you like. I am not a Catholic and have never been aCcatholic, but I love the rosary, and I love the comfort that it brings to those who believe. You will have to come over to England again. Maybe stay with us. That would be nice. I am really looking forward to Scotland, going back to my roots! Love and hugs. xoxo

I would love to hear your story about the crosses Monique, I really would. I really hope you can master the cotton dishcloths! I love them myself! I wish I could get the bright colours you can! I love my rosary although I have never been taught the prayers associated with them. I just like to hold them and I keep them hanging on my bed post. I had not seen the necklaces by Kelle Hampton but have just now looked them up I think they are really cute also! I have gone through my dresser and wardrobe today and taken out three bags of clothes to give/throw away. No kidding. The stuff we hang onto . . . xoxo
