My Favourite Things

These are a few of my favourite things  . . .

Crazy Quilts, especially when they are adorned with such beautiful embroidery.  What a fabulous work of art this is.  One can only imagine the hours put in.  Do hop on over to the linked page to see more of this beautiful piece of art and handiwork.

Fabric art.  I love this.  It has all the things I love . . .  fabric scraps, ticking, embroidery, buttons.  Beautiful.

Cups and saucers.  Especially vintage ones.  I have a few.  My favourite one is the one my sister gave to me many years ago for my birthday.  She picked it up in a charity shop I think and I just treasure it.  My love of it is two fold, one because it is a tea cup and old, and two  . . .  and most importantly, because my sister gave it to me.  I miss my sister very much.  We don't seem to talk much these days.  I am not sure why, I expect we are both busy with life. When I am online she isn't and vice versa I suppose.

Beetroot.  Any way I can get it.  I love them boiled, steamed, roasted, pickled, raw . . .  and I don't just love the root, I also love the tops.  Ohh . . .  baby beetroot, with the tops still attached, steamed and tossed with butter, salt and black pepper. So good! And good for you too!  (Well, except for the butter and salt.)

The illustration art of Jessie Wilcox Smith.  It captures a kinder, gentler, simpler time.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.  They are such a sweet young couple and a lovely little family. She is so stylish and very photogenic.  I think they are truly a love match.

Pretty pedicures.   I am unlikely to ever have one.  I have such ugly feet, but maybe my feet will be more worthy of one when I get to the other side.  I have bunions and ugly toe nails, swollen ankles, etc. Ahh . . .  youth is wasted on the young, lol.

Newborns  . . .  is there anything more beautiful on earth . . . those eyes, those lips, fingers and toes . . .  the smell . . . I could just eat them up.

Good fish and chips.   Everyone in my family loves them.  We could eat them until they come out our ears.   The best place for them back home is a little ice cream shack called Pearl's in between Paradise and Lawrencetown.  Over here, it has to be Blackstocks.  Sooooo good!

Rings, especially dainty ones.  I am not a lover of huge jewelry of any kind.  Too conspicuous. But if it is dainty, I am in love.  My favourite ring (next to my engagement ring) is my little sterling silver pinkie ring that I wear on the baby finger of my right hand.  It is a small cluster of forget-me-knots. I have had it for about 18 years now, and it still fits.  Like my earrings.  They still fit too.

Crowns and Tiaras.  I would never in a million years wear one.  Haha, can you imagine, but I love looking at them.  I am sure I must have been a princess in a previous life, because I am in love with all things princessy . . .

Bordertown on Netflix.  If you are a fan of good crime drama shows, you will love this. It is Finnish with sub-titles, but you don't even notice.  It is compelling.

Hummels.  I don't have any, but I have always loved them.  I have four hummel postcards.  Do they count?  They sure do.  We have them framed and they were supposed to go in Eileen's Room when we moved back to Canada. That is never going to happen now, of course, but I have them on the wall above the computer and they make me smile every time I look at them.

Sigh . . . . gorgeous . . .

And of course each of YOU!  What are some of your favourite things?

A thought to carry with you through the day   . . .

Have a great Thursday.  We are off to visit our friend Audrey in the Care Home today.  Peter is on a much deserved holiday.  I hope she knows who we are.   Hope your day is filled with lots of your favourite things!  Don't forget!

  1. Good morning Marie, Well I hope you have got the notice that our dear friends have safely landed but very tired, just hope after a few days they will be rested enough to make all their touring around worthy of another visit !......I do hope your friend does regognise you, even if not I'm sure she will hear your voice and love that you are there. My sister Margaret loved Humels as well she collected them until a few years ago when they got extra expensive by then she must have had at least 30 or more of the figurines, two dolls, and a table lamp...she left them to Beth in her will, it's a pity that Beth dosnt really like them!! However she said she would leave them with her Uncle Mitch as it would be a shame to empty the cabinet where they are !!...I did have one of them as it was one Sarah and I bought for their 40 th wedding anniversary it is a little girl sitting on the grass with her little dog tugged under her arm reading a book!...guess what the dog is ? Yes a wee dashhound we both loved our Daxi's !!!....hope you have a good day love to Todd and yourself of course. God Bless. Xxx

  3. PS forgot to say a special mention for the shoes. Love the style of the toe and the colours. Are they the latest fashion? Wonder if I ever see something like this in our stores

  4. I have been enjoying a jar of pickled beets here. I just love them and they rounded our a meal of chicken and rice very well. Rain rain and more rain coming our way they say. I'll probably be enjoying some Netflix here ...but I have little patience when it comes to sub titles. Hope your Thursday is a great one !

  6. Thanks Sybil, I did get the message. I would love to hear what you guys did in the couple of days before they left for America! Oh what a shame Beth doesn't appreciate the Hummels. They are probably worth a lot. I love Dachshunds, but Todd is not a fan. I would have one if I could! My friend did remember us, and we had a lovely visit, but she kept asking where her husband was, however we just had to say he would be coming later as we did not know if he had told her he was away or not and we did not want to upset her. Love and hugs to you all! xoxo

Thanks Linda, the shoes are just a picture I found online, but I would love, LOVE the red ones! They are right up my alley! Mind you, I have such wide feet with my bunions I probably could not wear them! xoxo

Oh Pam, they are all that and more! We are having lovely summer weather here at the moment, the only problem with that is it might be the only summer we get and it's very early in the year! xoxo

We are two birds of a feather Monique! I love Border town, but we are quite fond of Scandanavian police shows. We loved Crimes of Passion which is set in the 60's. We don't mind the subtitles at all. xoxo

  7. I love the little ring, where on earth did you find such a treasure. Great idea for a blog. I may just have to do that. The scones look just lush and I sure could eat that but alas no clotted cream. Another things I miss from England.Janice

  8. Thanks Janice. They say you can make your own clotted cream, but it can be difficult to make correctly. You need the right milk and the right temperature and a lot of patience. You can serve these scones with softly whipped cream and jam, not quite the same but delicious nonetheless! xoxo

Your comments mean the world to me, and while I may not be able to address each one individually, each one is important to me and each one counts. Thanks so much!
