FOR TODAY May 6th, 2014
Outside my window...
It's looking like it's going to be another fine day. Sun is shining. The heat wave we were promised has not materialized yet, but c'est la vie!
I am thinking...
`•.¸.•´¸¸.¸.☆¨"“ Darkness cannot drive out darkness,
Only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate,
Only love can do that."
~Martin Luther King
Trying to love my enemies.
I am thankful...
I am thankful for the Gospel in my life, which guides and strengthens me. I don't know where I would be without it, truly.
In the Kitchen...
Caesar Tortillini Salad. Deliciously simple and quick to make. Love, LOVED this!
On my "To Cook" list ...
These delicious looking "Carrot Fritters," from a blog called Stetted. They look delicious.
I am Creating ...
This is something which I did yesterday afternoon. I have been pondering this scripture for a few weeks now. I do love it. So yesterday I sat down at my craft desk to do something with it and this is what came out. I was really happy with the results. It's my first time doing elephants. Available as a print or a card. Would make a lovely wedding gift and it could be personalized with the couple's names and date of marriage.
Wooden Spoon People from Jess Quinn. I think they are adorable and would be very easy to make yourself if you have an artistic bent.
Free Printable Antique Price tags from Knick of Time Interiors. I love free printables!
Free Vintage Labels printables. I found these on Lily Ashbury. They would be great in the craft room to decorate containers to hold my paint brushes, etc.
I am going ...
We are taking Mitzie to the dog groomer tomorrow morning. She is looking decidedly shaggy at the moment. Like a little black Yeti! Probably grocery shopping at some point. My life has gotten very boring I think!
I am wondering ...
My Daughter In law's procedure got put off until tomorrow. It is difficult to understand why these things happen sometimes, but that is all a part and parcel of life I suppose. We must take the bad with the good. I am hoping that they are able to have another baby at some point and why this one didn't make it. Maybe we will never know. I am grateful though that in this day and age they will have an opportunity to grieve properly, see it, hold it, etc. Years ago this was not the case.
I am reading ...
The Good Father, by Diane Chamberlain
Four years ago, nineteen-year-old Travis Brown made a choice: to raise his newborn daughter on his own. While most of his friends were out partying and meeting girls, Travis was at home, changing diapers and worrying about keeping food on the table. He’s never regretted his decision: Bella is the light of his life. But after Travis loses his job and his home, the security he’s worked so hard to create for his daughter begins to crumble. When he receives a job offer, he thinks his troubles have come to an end . . . not realizing that they've only just begun.
I quite like the writing of Diane Chamberlain. Very Jodi Picoult-ish. I love her books too, but she doesn't write them fast enough!
I am hoping ...
That my father settles in well at my mother's. It is a big change and it's been about seven years since he left Nova Scotia. I don't know that a lot of his old friends are still there or even still alive. He will have to make new friends etc. I hope that the transition is not too hard on him.
Makes me smile ...
This is Jonathan. He's my second oldest grandson and oldest son of our Doug. He is turning 8 years old today! Happy Birthday Jonathan! Jon is a delightful little boy who is very sensitive, sweet, caring and very crafty! He is very creative. The last time we spoke on facetime he was showing me one of his latest creations which he had made with pipe cleaners and pompoms. I hope that he likes the Birthday Present I sent to him. Something to help fuel his creative juices! Love you Jonathan, very much!
I am learning ...
Patience. I thought I had cracked it, but I have not. I think it is something I am going to have to work on for the rest of my life perhaps.
Around the house ...
I love, LOVE this slip-covered chair, found on Ever Kelly. I love the bright colours and the quilted appearance of it. I wish I had room enough in this house to set up a quilting frame. Sigh . . . .
I love the Roman Shades on this window that I found on My So Called Home. I think I have a pattern somewhere upstairs to make Roman Shades. I may just have to dig it out!
Love, Love, LOVING the fireplace book case from Nellie Bellie. It's so very pretty, and much nicer to look at than just books.
Now this is just brilliant. An old dresser converted into a work island. I love it! Found on a page called Sortrachen.
I am pondering ...

Challenges are what makes life interesting and
overcoming them is what makes like meaningful.
~Joshua J Marine
I could sometimes do with a few less challenges however.
A favourite quote for the day ...
Life is short, live it. Love is rare, grab it. Anger is bad, dump it. Fear is awful, face it.
Memories are sweet. Cherish them.
One of my favourite Things ...
Egg cups. I don't know why. I only ever very rarely eat a soft boiled egg. Todd is the soft boiled egg eater in our house, but I have just always loved egg cups. My favourite ones I have are a set of baby chicks. They're really cute. I bought them a long time ago when my children were really small.
A peek into my day ...
Depending on what day of the week it is, you will find me watching this as some point. I have been watching Coronation Street since I was a girl. I love it. Todd is not fussed however, and so I tape it and try to watch it when he is otherwise occupied. It's not as good as it used to be years ago though . . . but I still watch it. I don't think the characters have as much depth as they used to have. I miss the Vera and Jack's and the realism of the older shows. I used to be a big fan of Another World when it was on the air back in Canada. I was disappointed when it got cancelled. I am not a big fan of American soaps actually. My mother won't miss The Bold and the Beautiful and General Hospital. I used to watch Days of Our Lives, but it got really stupid with Marlene becoming Satan possessed, etc. Dumb. I would much rather things stick to the every day and the real.
