A Day Book . . .

 

FOR TODAY, October 22nd, 2024

OUTSIDE MY WINDOW ...

Its just starting to get light out. There are only a few of us on the street that are awake just yet. Only a few early risers. I've been up for over an hour now. I have never been a person that sleeps in. I am an early to rise, early to bed type of person.

We are having some fairly mild weather this week. Tomorrow is supposed to break the record for high temperature for that day. Then it will get quite cold again and last over the weekend, but they are predicting Halloween to be quite a warm day as well.  Warm and clear, which is good for the Trick-or-Treaters.

I AM THINKING ...

How can it already be the 22nd of October, and why is there Christmas stuff already in the shops? I wish that the retail industry was not always in such a hurry to sell us the Holidays. Not that I don't love Christmas, but . . . I would like to get Halloween over with first, thank you very much!

I AM ALSO THINKING ...

Oh yes, some of my very favorite things about being alive. If you have these things in your life, then you are very blessed indeed.  Now if only I could get more of number three. I do sleep, but most of the time it is a very dreamy kind of sleep and I wake up a lot during the night.

IN THE KITCHEN ...

Crockpot Chicken and Gravy.  This is such a simple make and perfect for those days when you know you are going to be too busy to cook.  Makes for a delicious and hearty supper without a lot of effort involved.

ON MY "TO COOK" LIST ...

From The Original Dish, Cornmeal Popovers with Herb Honey Butter.  These look fabulous. I love Popovers.

LOOKING FORWARD TO ...

I got some patterns cut out yesterday and I am looking forward to getting stuck into sewing them together. I am trying to do more in that area each week. Sewing, sketching, painting, writing . . . reading!  I work far too much and play far too little.

SOMETHING NICE ...

It will soon be four years since I found myself coming back to Canada under some really heartbreaking conditions. I will be forever grateful for all the love, help and support given to me during that time.  For the many prayers uttered on my behalf. For the listening ears and broad shoulders. For those who sought to build me up rather than crush me. Forever grateful.

SOMETHING ELSE THAT IS NICE ...

It costs nothing to be kind.  So many people find it very easy to hide behind the screen of online anonymity and drip vitriol into others' lives.  I was brought up quite differently. I was always taught that if you didn't have something nice to say, then best not say it. It is easy to look at the faces presented to us via social media, etc. and to form quick judgements of people.  But we are only seeing tiny glimpses of their lives. We don't know the whole truth.  How much better to be kind and to believe that people are trying to do their best, and if they aren't, well . . . how will us jumping to conclusions and judgement help them in any way? Better to be kind.  It's not our walk.  Not our shoes.

THIS I KNOW TO BE TRUE ...

What you seek, you will find. If you look for goodness, you will find goodness. I try always to be kind. To show love.  I am not perfect by any stretch, but I try.

My two are not cuddlers. Sometimes I wish that they were. My sister has cuddlers.

I AM READING ...

ENDURING LIGHT, by Carla Kelly

This is the second book in this romance series by LDS author Carla Kelly.  The first was Borrowed Light.  It continues on with the story of Miss Darling ( a cook) and Mr. Otto (A Wyoming rancher) back at the turn of the 20th century. I love this sweet love story that is unmarred by the smut that is often so prevalent in the romance novels of today.  I have read all of the books in the series before and loved each one, so much so that I am reading them all again, for the third time.  If you like a sweet story which flows beautifully then you will love these novels. They are just plain feel good books.

I am really enjoying reading through this whole series again.

SOMETHING TO WATCH ...

 I watched this on Netflix. Its Italian with English voice-overs and I found it quite binge worthy.  I found myself wanting to know what was going to happen next. Kind of like an Italian Soap Opera.  It was very good.  Be warned, there is nudity. I don't recommend if you are sensitive to this type of thing.
