Times the tears rolled . . .

I am a pretty soppy person with a really tender heart. It doesn't take much for the tears to start flowing. I cry over all sorts.  I am not a WAAAA kind of cryer, but a silent cryer, a cryer that just oozes tears and yes, copious amounts of tissues are needed. I am always crying when we watch the television.  Here are some of my favourite television and cinema cries.

The Gilmore Girls.  Season 4, Episode 21.  I had been waiting for 4 whole seasons for Luke and Lorelai to finally get it together.  I mean, from the start it was fairly obvious that these two were meant for each other and time and time again their love was thwarted. Finally in this episode, things seem to be falling into place.  Luke invited Lorelai to be his plus one at this sister's wedding, and at the reception afterwards he askes her to dance.  The music is "Reflecting Light" by Sam Phillips.  The moment so tender.  I am just so happy that these two are finally on the same page. The tears flow. Luke is so awkward and actually Lorelai is a bit awkward too, the chemistry is tangible. Love, love, love.

Call the Midwife.  I can't think of an episode of this series, since day one, that hasn't left me in tears.  Big soppy, heart rending tears. It always takes me on a wild, unpredictable emotional journey.  Sometimes the tears are happy, sometimes they are incredibly heart wrenching.  And still I watch.  I know I am going to cry, but still I watch.  Why?  Because it is one of the best shows out there and it is worth every single tear shed.

Downton Abbey when "that" happened.  My heart shattered into a million pieces.  Did they not deserve a happily ever after . . .  sigh  . . .

The final episode ever of Inspector George Gently.  I was like NO . . . .

Sommersby . . .  again no happy ending.  But I think it is a beautiful love story.

Top Gun when Goose dies. (Spoiler alert, sorry.)  Its just so sad.

The end of Officer and a Gentleman when Richard Gere sweeps Debra Winger off her feet.  Tears of joy.

That moment when Rory and Dean break up during the dance contest on Gilmore Girls . . . I was 17 again and breaking up with my boyfriend . . .

In the movie My Girl, when Thomas dies, leaving Veda heartbroken.  My heart breaks too for this little girl who has had to deal so much loss in her life.

That episode of the Gilmore Girls where Lorelai is singing "I will always love you" at kareoke and Luke comes in near the end.  These two belong together, but there are so many bumps  in the road.

Grey's Anatomy, when Merideth gives Derek the ultimatim and asks him to choose her, to love her . . . and you just know how much it took for her to say it, and then he doesn't show up . . . .

When Izzie and Karev get married in Grey's Anatomy.  Such a tender moment.  His vows  . . .  wow.

The scene in "A Year in the Life" where Lorelai is watching the Star's Hollow Musical preview and the song "Unbreakable" is sung  . . .  it just touches my heart and tears fall.  Who has never felt broken . . .

Outlander . . . so many times, again and again  . . .

Poldark  . . .  does the course of true love never run smooth?

A Year in the Life when Loralai and Luke elope and finally get married on the night before their wedding, and that same music is playing that was playing the first time they danced together.  Sigh  . . .

The last scene in Funny Girl, when Barbara Streisand is singing the song "My Man."

Oh, my man I love him so
He'll never know
All my life is just despair
But I don't care
When he takes me in his arms
The world is bright, all right
What's the difference if I say
I'll go away
When I know I'll come back on my knees some day?
For whatever my man is
I am his forever more

What are some moments in television that made you cry?  Any suggestion of worthy watches? Why do we like to watch things that make us cry?  We may never know  . . .

A thought to carry with you  . . .

And I do too!

PS - meant to tell you this experience I had at grocery shop yesterday.  Got through the tils only to discover as I was putting it into the bag that my loaf of bread had a slit from a knife in top of the bag.  I wanted it exchanged of course.  The cashier put his light on, but nobody came, and so I told him I knew right where it was and would run back and get my own, so he said he would give me the staff discount on my whole grocery order because of that, whipped out his staff card and I got a full discount of 10% on all my groceries.  Well worth the trip to the back of the shop for the new loaf of bread!  Yay!

    1. CTM is without a doubt the best show on the telly these days, and yes, this years final almost destroyed me, lol. So sad, and yet there is hope. I haven't watched Friends from College, although it is on my watch list. I probably won't like it. I started to watch Love, but it has gotten really Vulgar, as if it wasn't vulgar already and so have ditched that. Yes, we are all so different. That's what makes life so exciting! xoxo

  2. It is amazing how we cry at films even though they are not true life. Still I think they touch some part of our own lives. Good for you on the discounted grocery bill! Nice surprise for sure !Have a wonderful Wednesday!

  3. As we are all good friends it's only natural that we all share lots of the same things and have the same attitudes. Including crying at the daftest things, we are a right soppy lot....and I think we are all the kinder or gentler because of it..night night Marie and Todd. Xx

  4. Hi Marie!

I'm such a cry baby when it comes to movies...or anything...really I'm such a sap these days! The other day when we had Clara over for the night, she was watching, Coco, and she was just sobbing...I left the room for a minute and when I came back, Clara and Bob were sitting on the couch, both with tears just running down their faces. It was so touching, she was crying over the show, he was crying because she was! I love to have a good cry, it always makes me feel better.

I love discounts - what a lucky day for you! XOXOX

    Hugs and Love,
    Barb
