Everybody, Nobody, Somebody and Anybody . . .

Everybody was sure Somebody would do it. Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did. It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.
~unknown

This little phrase made me giggle a bit. I am always saying to Todd . . . "Somebody did this, or Somebody did that!" He has come to answer to the name Somebody . . . and I suppose he is right . . . when I am saying it I really mean "HE" did something, but I'm trying to be polite and not out and out accuse him!

But really . . . what those words are saying is, that oftimes we all stand around waiting for someone else to get the things done that need doing . . .

Things like trying to help rid the world of hunger and war. Charity work. Service. Kindness. We walk past garbage on the roadway, thinking someone else will pick it up. We see the starving children on the telly and we take it for granted that someone else will donate. We walk past the guy selling The Big Issue . . . or the busker with his guitar case open on the ground . . . we neglect to vote in the election because we can't be bothered, and what's going to happen is going to happen whether we vote or not . . . we turn a blind eye to the atrocities happening around us because we don't want to get involved . . . The list goes on and on. I know we cannot give to every charity . . . and we cannot buy every big issue . . . but we can do a little. If everyone did just a little, that would make a huge difference, I am sure.

It all starts with small adjustments and little acts, a penny here, a penny there. It all adds up in the long run.

He that is good at making excuses is seldom good at anything else.

Ouch, sounds a little bit too familiar for my liking! It's time for a change!

Not much on for today. I was going to go to the Grocery store, but now I am rethinking that. I find myself doing that more and more . . . I think it's because I don't want to push a cart around a busy and hectic shop with my game knee and hip, and so I stay home more and more. I'm getting stuck in a rut methinks! Perhaps just a trip down to the corner shop to pick up the things I really need and I'll get by without the rest . . .

Here's a cheap and simple meal that is quick to do, but very tasty! You don't need to use turkey. You can also use chicken or pork. It all works the same and tastes fabulous! Just make sure your meat it cut into thin escalopes, or that it has been pounded really thin.

Thinly sliced turkey replaces the veal in this quick and delicious supper dish.

1 large free range egg
1/2 cup flour
2 tsp finely grated lemon zest, from an unwaxed lemon
1/2 tsp each salt and dried thyme, rubbed between your fingers
1/4 tsp ground black pepper
1 pound of turkey breast, cut into scallopini
(Thinly sliced pieces of turkey breast)
2 TBS each butter and olive oil
chopped fresh parsley and lemon slices to serve

Break the egg into a shallow dish and beat lightly with a fork. Place the flour in another shallow dish and whisk together with the lemon zest, salt, thyme and pepper. Dip the turkey slices into the beaten egg to coat well, and then press them into the flour, turning them to coat all over.

Set aside on a wire rack to dry for about 15 minutes before proceeding.

Heat half of the butter and oil together in a large skillet, over medium heat, swirling to mix together. When the mixture begins to sizzle a bit add half of the turkey slices. Cook for about 3 minutes, until lightly browned, and then flip over and cook the other side for an additional 3 minutes, or until no longer pink inside. Keep warm and repeat with the remaining slices of turkey, butter and oil. Serve hot and garnished with the parsley and lemon slices.

And over in The English Kitchen today, a delicious Blackberry Pecan Snacking Cake.

  1. We've had a ghost around here for a long time that is always the one who does it. I'm certain, because that's who everyone blames.

    How is Miss Mitzie?

  3. How very true, we shoud all think of those less well off than us and remember that whatever our worries are, there is always someone with the same or with worse. I try to think of that and stop moaning and get on with things. Enjoy your weekend

  6. It's so true we cannot all do great things, but little things in simple ways do make a difference.
