The Simple Woman's Daybook . . .

FOR TODAY, May 19, 2020

Outside my window ...
It is overcast and there is a cool breeze. Not sure what the day will shape up to be yet. The jury's out on that one!  Birds are singing however and we'll be happy with whatever today brings to us!

I am thinking ...
I did the most stupid thing yesterday.  I caught one of my flip flops in the cord to the power bar we keep all our chargers plugged into and did a flip flop myself, right over the foot stool onto the floor in the lounge. I fell like a ton of bricks. I was worried at first I had broken something, but just badly bruised all down my left side.  Left me all shook up and not in the "Elvis" way!  I need to be more careful as the hospital is not a place where I want to end up!  I think I also need to get me a decent pair of slippers.

I am thankful for ...
That I didn't break anything!  Just my pride!

In the kitchen ...

A simple Oven Roasted Tomato Sauce! Using fresh tomatoes not tinned.

On my "To Cook" list ...

Belly Full.  Olive Cheese Bread.  Three things I love. Olives, Cheese and Bread!

Good to know ...

I am creating ...

Inside Crochet. Weather Pencil Toppers.

Moara Crochet. Crochet Poppies.  Very pretty.

I am reading ...

The Gown, by Jennifer Robson.
The Gown is an enthralling historical novel about one of the most famous wedding dresses of the twentieth century - Queen Elizabeth's wedding gown - and the fascinating women who made it.

London, 1947: Besieged by a harsh winter, burdened by shortages and rationing, the people of post-war Britain are suffering despite their nation's recent victory. For Ann Hughes and Miriam Dassin, embroiderers at the famed Mayfair fashion house of Norman Hartnell, a glimmer of brightness comes in the form of their unlikely friendship and being chosen for a once-in-a-lifetime honour: taking part in the creation of Princess Elizabeth's wedding gown.

Toronto, 2016: Heather Mackenzie seeks to unravel the mystery of a legacy from her late grandmother. How did her beloved nan, who never spoke of her old life in Britain, come to possess the priceless embroideries that so closely resemble the motifs on the stunning gown worn by Queen Elizabeth II at her wedding almost seventy years before? And what was her nan's connection to the celebrated textile artist and Holocaust survivor Miriam Dassin?

With The Gown, Jennifer Robson takes us inside the workrooms where one of the most famous wedding gowns in history was created to tell a story of women whose lives are woven together by the pain of survival, the bonds of friendship, and the redemptive power of love.

Corners of my kingdom ...

Morning at Corfe Castle. Isle of Purbeck, Dorset, England.
The first stone of Corfe Castle was laid more than 1,000 years ago. Built for King Henry I, William the Conqueror’s son, it’s seen its fair share of battles, mysteries and plots. It’s been a treasury, military garrison, royal residence and family home.

And that's my daybook for this week!

  3. Thanks for another fun Daybook entry. I think I might do one at some point.
I'm so happy you didn't hurt your self worse. I think big bruises aren't fun and they can be painful. Yes, be careful my friend.
The Easy Love Olive Bread looks yummy and we will try that one.
I did like the How to Disagree Politely. Perfect for me to learn those terms. I have a daughter in law that is a struggle in this area.
Cute Crocheted items, especially the flowers.
The Gown book looks like a good one. I do like to follow English Royalty stuff.
I use to bottle and now I think I will do more dehydrating.
I have a few Vintage hankies from my Mom; I love them.
I always love your Corner of the Kingdom's photos.
    Blessings and hugs!

    1. I find people get too political these days LeAnn and of course that makes blood start to boil, lol. So much contention! My sister dehydrates. I gave our dehydrator away because it wasn't getting used and took up too much spacel Blessings and love to you and Roger. xoxo
