What we make in our todays . . .

Childhood is the bough where slumbered
Birds  mid blossoms, many-numbered;
Age, that bough with snows encumbered.

Gather, then, each flower that grows
When the young heart o'erflows
To embalm that tent of snows.
~Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

We are all making in our todays the memories of our tomorrows  . . . who hasn't gazed upon photographs of their childhood and filled their minds and hearts with contemplations of times gone by, filled with the memories of lives of sweetness, purity and unselfishness. When we are young we do not know it, but we are preparing for ourselves the home that our souls will live in . . .  must live in . . .  in the years to come.

This is a beautiful thought, that  . . . in the youth of our lives, we gather in the sweet things of our lives together to keep us company in the golden years of our lives.  The flowers, sweet experiences . . . fragrances . . . embroider all the days of our youth so that our old age might be clothed with gladness.

When we are gathering these bouquets of experience we somehow don't realise how much of our happiness in our later years will depend on the sweetness of what we do today.  How the minutes of our very own lives will give colour to our skies and provide the melody to the music and song we will one day hear in the corners of our  mind's eye.

The memories we make along the years are an old man's heritage  . . . or woman's as it were.  The songs of our youth build the homes of our old age.  Oh sure  . . .  we may change our houses many times through the years, switch companions, or neighbours, or circumstances . . . but with us, wherever we might go  . . . . we carry with us the song of our own pasts, the echos of our yesteryears.

The lens in our minds-eye we choose to view this with is our choice to make. Who we are today is indeed the sum of all of our yesterdays. We may not like all the things we have done, or the choices we have made in the past, but they are a part and parcel of who we become and became.  Being able to look at ourselves and say . . .  "I like me"  . . .  brings even the saddest of memories and experiences into a brighter focus, a melody perfectly in tune.

Do we look at the flower and see the weed . . .  or the seeds of a thousand wishes.

We may be living in quarantine, or sheltering in safety (if you are being positive) at the moment, but sweet memories are still being made.

Yesterday was the 75th anniversary of VE (Victory over Europe) day.   Despite the lock down many of us managed to mark it in some way.

Up at Balmoral Charles and Camilla laid a wreath and flowers before our whole county participated in a minute of silence . . .  they were very Scottish in their dress I have to say.  From what I have read that is the done thing at Balmoral.

There were several fly-passes by the Red Arrows in red, white and blue over the skies of the UK.

We were inspired as a nation via a lovely message from our Queen.

Bunting was flown from one end of the country to the other.  Even we got ours out and graced the front of our home with it.  That wonderful old British "Can Do" spirit was much in evidence all over the country.   I love it.

A thought to carry with you    . . .

We celebrated yesterday with Old Fashioned Sour Cream Doughnuts.  Yummy!

Have a wonderful Saturday. The sun is shining here again today.  We have been some lucky with the weather I have to say.  Quarantine has been a lot easier to bear with blue skies!  Don't forget!
