The Simple Woman's Daybook . . .

FOR TODAY, February 4th, 2020

Outside my window...
Its dark. Its cold. Its windy, and the birds are starting to wake up. I would love to be a bird on a sunny day flying through the bright blue skies, but on a day like today, I am rather happy that I am not.

I am thinking ...
Not thinking about a lot really. We have a jam-packed week. I have a lesson to prep for Sunday. There was the dog groomers tomorrow, but thankfully that's been cancelled until next week.  I have the Back Doctor on Thursday.  Doreen's funeral on Friday and I am doing a reading. You know what they say, "There's just no rest for the wicked!"

I am thankful for ...
That I keep babying this computer along. Its like an extension of myself. So far so good. Hoping to baby it until my son gets here in April and then maybe he can help me with it, help put a new battery in it or whatever.

 In the kitchen ...

Cheesy Chili Jacket Potatoes for Two, because some days I just get lazy.

On my "To Cook" list ...

Homestyle Chicken Curry.  BBC Good Food. Oh, I do so love a good curry.

Good to know ...

I am creating ...

I am reading ...

Miss Austin, by Gill Hornby
A wonderfully original, emotionally complex novel that delves into why Cassandra burned a treasure trove of letters written by her sister, Jane Austen – an act of destruction that has troubled academics for centuries.

1840: twenty three years after the death of her famous sister Jane, Cassandra Austen returns to the village of Kintbury, and the home of her family’s friends, the Fowles. She knows that, in some dusty corner of the sprawling vicarage, there is a cache of family letters which hold secrets she is desperate should not be revealed. As Cassandra recalls her youth and her relationship with her brilliant yet complex sister, she pieces together buried truths about Jane’s history, and her own. And she faces a stark choice: should she act to protect Jane’s reputation? Or leave the contents of the letters to go unguarded into posterity …

Based on a literary mystery that has long puzzled biographers and academics, Miss Austen is a wonderfully original and emotionally complex novel about the loves and lives of Cassandra and Jane Austen.

I have only just started this, but it is touted to be the best novel of 2020 so far.

  1. Hi, Marie! Sooo NICE to catch up with you! I'm so sorry about your friend Doreen ((HUGS)) The jacket potatoes look great--BIG YUM! Nothin' lazy about those, just goodness! ;) That Valentine bunting is so sweet! Your current reading sounds fun... I love anything Jane Austen-related! We've not seen the Judy film yet--must do! Happy Week, my friend ((LOVE & BIG HUGS))

    1. You need to see the Judy film Tracy. It has pockets of joy and sadness, and is very well done! Happy week, love and hugs. xoxo

  2. You do have a busy week..sometimes buying a battery is more economical on EBAY or Amazon..Jacques did buy one though and it never worked..however his battery was not easily accessible and he had to open parts..undo wires..oh lala.. a recipe for disaster..he's brilliant but ..
Just saying..but you have to know that's the problem:)
The teeny worry dolls look just like mine..I am telling you they are teeny..like whispers.:)
    Take care..

  3. Hi Marie~

I always love reading your daybook!

Busy days are hard, but they seem to go by fast. You will be in my prayers for your reading at Doreen's funeral, I'm sure it will be beautiful. Good luck on your lesson well, I love RS, but I always get nervous when I have to prepare for a lesson!

I too am looking forward to Spring. Our high's are only suppose to be around 17 degrees today. I have some errands to run today, so I'm not looking forward to it.

I am definitely an emotional eater! Tomorrow is going to be a big day for our family, and I'm already thinking of yummy things I'm hungry for! I need to make sure I have some healthy choices on hand.

We saw a few swans on the river the other day, they are so pretty. They usually start migrating back into Idaho in late March. I love driving around by the empty fields to find them, they're always there.

Loved your post yesterday as well...I always pray in the shower! I know, big shock!! It seems like there is just so much stress and evil in the world, we all need our very own sanctuary where we can feel safe. Your newfound space in you home looks so beautiful! I love how clean, cozy and comfortable it looks! Isn't it crazy how a change like that can make all the difference!?

Of course, all of your recipes look delicious!!

Have a wonderful rest of your day! Always in my prayers, Marie! Love you tons...XOXO

    Hugs and Love,
    Barb

    1. This new way of teaching lessons is what makes me nervous Barb! You have to be able to ask questions that will incite people to want to discuss! There is nothing like dead air spice to spark dread in your gut! I never thought of there being swans in Idaho! How very wonderful! Love and hugs to you and Bob. xoxo

    1. It is a most beautiful country Elizabeth. Curry can be as spicy or as mild as you like it. I like it on the mild side myself! Love and hugs, xoxo
