The Simple Woman's Daybook . . .

 


FOR TODAY, April 21, 2020  
Outside my window ... 
Birds are singing.  The sky is blue. We are having one of the nicest Aprils ever. The weather would have been great for the children's visit.  Too bad  . . .  They would have been returning home today, had they been able to come. 


I am thinking ...
There is talk about letting the children go back to school in 3 weeks time.  WOULD YOU???  I don't think so!  We are still having daily death numbers in the hundreds. Yesterday 405.  And that's just the ones who die in hospital.  We know so little about this virus.  I don't think its safe to let our kids go back to school.



I am thankful for ...
Our NHS and other care workers, the garbage men, the grocery store clerks, the mailmen, everyone who is keeping our country going in these horrific times.  They are the heros.

Cornish coast- A sea of Yellow Gorse along the world famous shores at Kynance Cove. Located on the west side of the Lizard and probably the most photographed and painted location in Cornwall. THE NATIONAL TRUST continue to protect these coastal grasslands so future generations can enjoy a wander by the seaside many years to come.

    Gorgeous knitted things...I cannot knit at all...only crochet. I do admire knitting!! I am sorry you are missing the kids who would have come. Tis a bummer for sure!! Would I send the kids back to school now? No...my grandkids are getting more time with Mama and are learning things schools here do not teach...gardening for one!! They are STILL learning...just somewhat different ways. THAT is a good thing. Well, I homeschooled quite a few years...and thankfully my 3 did well...and all have jobs where they are still employed and paid, though home. VERY grateful for that!! One thing I do hope comes of all this mess, is that people start looking at what can be done to help children and parents be together more...and learn a larger variety of subjects!! I am not against school teachers, by the way, as many are in my kin plus I was in college for an education degree.

      I know that there is a lot of pressure from some circles to get their kids back into school. Some parents are not enjoying having all their children home, etc. But there are just so many unknown factors about this virus Elizabeth. It might be a pain to be stuck in the house 24/7 with your kids, but at what cost to let them go back to school? I don't think the cost is worth the sanity. Mind you there are some parents who aren't bothering to keep their kids home anyways, letting them wander about freely. My son walked into his living room the other day to see his oldest son's best friend standing there. He had gone for a bike ride and decided to visit. The mind boggles! xoxo

    Good morning, Marie. I love that little blue knitted onesie. I can knit but I can't crochet. It would have been hard for you and Todd to say goodbye to your children today. On the bright side, you still have their visit to look forward to. We shopped yesterday and I was surprised as there was no line-up to get in, shelves were pretty well stocked, no line-up to pay, either. I bought beef liver to have for dinner tonight so I'm going to pop over to your blog and see if I can find a recipe. Enjoy the sunshine. Hugs and love, Elaine

      Oh how I wish I could knit like that Elaine. I would be knitting something for the new grand whether his parents wanted it or not! Ohhh sorry about beef liver lol. We don't eat it. At all. Its not a taste I ever acquired! Todd does enjoy liver, bacon and onions but only when we are out. LOL Just the smell of liver cooking makes me gag. One man's meat is surely another man's poison!       We don't have liver very often but once in awhile it's nice. I fried bacon, then onions, then the liver. It was quite tasty. We had it with carrots 🥕 that I had glazed with Dijon mustard and maple syrup. Hugs, Elaine

      WE have started to watch The English Game Monique. I am not totally bothered about the children. I am happy they are safe. It may yet still happen. I live in hope! I need to look for Waco! xoxo

    Our schools have been declared closed for the rest of the school year and I'm thankful for that I would had to send a child off to school at this point. We can only wait and see how it is in the fall, when schools here are supposed to open again. It's one day at a time for me. Every day is something new. I'm staying in as long as I can and haven't hat to go out yet thanks to my loving family.

      I think because our schools go until mid-August normally then break for summer, people are panicking a the thought of their kids missing so much school. I get that, but I would rather be safe than sorry! You are so blessed to have family that love you like that Pam! xoxo

    Our schools here in Pennsylvania/USA are closed for the rest of the school year, and I am so glad. Some want to re-open things too quickly, just my opinion. I am grateful for our state's governor who has shown more leadership than those above him. Again, my opinion.
    I am also grateful for your blog which is such an uplifting place to come I do love that little bird cup - and thanks for the sore throat tea recipe.
    I am sorry for what happened in your lovely Nova Scotia - your post was beautiful. A very special place.

      Thanks so much Mary. My heart breaks for America and what it is going through. Its been a long four years. I hope thtings sort themselves out more sooner than later. I do love that bird cup but have never seen one in real life. If I did I would try to snatch it up! xoxo
