The Simple Woman's Daybook . . .

FOR TODAY, March 24, 2020

Outside my window...
All is calm and bright. The birds are singing.  Other than that it is quiet and sunny and dry. You would never know it is a strange new world.

I am thinking ...
About the surprising way our lives can change without any notice. About the amazing power of personal revelation. About my church leaders and how they have been preparing us for this strange new world we are living in for the past year and a half. They truly are inspired. I trust them implicitly.

I am thankful for ...
My God and my Saviour, prayer, a humble heart, an open mind, family, friends, modern technology, the NHS, our Government.  We can do this.

In the kitchen ...

Butter, Onion & Tomato Sauce

In The English Kitchen today, a delicious supper using only 4 ingredients if you count the pasta and minimal effort. If you can peel an onion, cut it in half, open a tin/bottle, you've got this.

On my "To Cook" list ...

King Arthur Flour. Bacon Cheddar Buns.

Good to know ...

I am creating ...

Blue Print.  6 techniques to up your coloured pencil game.  Blending, etc.

No source to be found.  Dress up a plain white shirt with a few embroidery stitches.  Love this.

Again no source.  Dress up a t-shirt by adding some liberty fabric details.  Sleeve edging and pocket.

Again, I could not find the source.

Organisation Junkie.  Homemade Heating Pads.

I am reading ...

My Son the Saviour, by Melody Carlson

Have you ever wondered what it was like for Mary? How did she feel about being the mother of Christ? What was she thinking as she fixed his childhood wounds, listened to him address hundreds on a hillside, and watched him turn water to wine? And what was she feeling as she witnessed her beloved son's crucifixion?

A fictionalized story of Mary's life, MY SON, THE SAVIOUR is filled with motherly love, deepening faith, worry and despair, and ultimately, eternal hope. If you've ever marvelled at Mary's faith, wondered how she endured, or wished to know more about her, you'll love this imagined look into Mary's deepest emotions and richest experiences as the mother of God's own Son.

 Dreaming about ...

Wildflowers  . . .

The beauty of piano music  . . .  I especially love Paul Cardall  . . .

A hot brew and a biscuit . . .

Sunshine on moss gilded rooftops  . . . .

The warmth and comfort of a patchwork quilt . . .

Makes me smile ...

Josh baking with mother  . . .  Oh I would just love to kiss each one of those freckles  . . .

Something to watch ...

 The Circle on Netflix.

A thought to carry with you ...

  2. Hi Marie, loved the embroidered rick-rack and the t-shirt with the flowered trim and pocket - so pretty. My grandmother made aprons and she always trimmed them with rick-rack or a bit of lace. She always starched and pressed them within an inch of their lives. I still have a couple that she made. We are hunkering down for another day at home. I have a lovely new book to read - thank you again, Marie. Stay strong, stay healthy. Hugs and love, Elaine

    1. I am so happy it finally arrived Elaine. I got one for you and one for me. Because we both like poetry and I thought we could share notes! What a treasure to have your mothers aprons. I love the smell of starch. If we are ever free to go about again, I am getting me some just so I can do some ironing and smell it! Love, hugs, strength and health to you also! I will e-mail. xoxo

    2. You know, liquid starch is hard to find. A year or so ago, I wanted some but the only place I could find it was Amazon and it was a huge bottle. None of our grocery stores carried it. They had spray starch but that's not quite the same. I did find a recipe on-line to make your own but never got around to making any. Hugs, Elaine

    3. I suppose people just don't use starch much anymore? I know I used to use sugar water for my doilies years ago. xoxo

  4. I love the daybook posts....is it ok to share what I'm seeing in the comments?

I am seeing some glorious sunshine after torrential rains last night.

I'm thinking of my grandmother this morning. I woke up in the middle of a dream about her.

I am thankful that I'm strong enough to take care of my 2 yr old grandson.

I am reading 'Womenfolk: growing up down south' by Shirley Abbott & it makes me miss my husband's grandmother so very much. It reads just like visits to her house in southern Arkansas.

    1. Thanks Jenny, it is okay absolutely to share! I really appreciate it! We can uplift each other! Your books sounds good. I must look for it. Also I love it when I dream about my departed loved ones. THey are always very comforting dreams. Perhaps it was your grandmother way of encouraging you. Love and hugs, xoxo

  5. Hi Marie~

I agree, we do live a strange new world...and what is so funny is that all of a sudden with less traffic and less people going out and about the pollution numbers have dropped dramatically, I like that! I too trust our church leaders with all my heart and soul. I'm anxious to hear what counsel the will have for us at conference. I know it will be wonderful!

It's a beautiful day here as well...cold and windy, but beautiful none the less. I wish I could venture out in it, but I would pay dearly for that. I can at least open the windows for a while and listen to the birds.

I love the idea of embroidery on a t-shirt, how adorable! I have lots of embroidery floss, I should do something creative with it.

I'm listening to Paul Cardall right now, so comforting! I love his music, it just warms my heart.

That Josh is a cutie, I can see why you would like to kiss that little freckled face!! I haven't seen my grands for a while, so I can feel a little bit of what you go through all the time...it's not fun.

Take care, give yourself and Todd a big cyber hug from me! Always in our prayers...XOXOXO

    Hugs and Love,
    Barb

    1. You and Bob stay well and safe Barb! I could listen to Paul Cardall for hours and hours. His music always touches my soul in a special way. Only a week and a half now to conference and I cannot wait! Have you been watching the First Vision/Restoration video/lessons on YouTube by David Butler. They are fantastic and a great way to be prepared for this very special conference. Love you and big hugs coming your way also, and prayers for safety. XOXO

  6. What a lovely daybook entry. I really enjoyed reading it all and your had some great DIY items. I wish, I was a sewer. The Book looks so good. I also your thoughts on piano music. I love him too. Perhaps, I will just take more moments to practice the piano more. This is the time to do those things I don't get to do very often. I can hardly wait for conference. We need it badly. Again, sending lots of prayers, love and hugs your way.

    1. Thanks LeAnn! I sure wish that I could play the piano. As a child I longed for lessons. When we worked and lived at the Manor there was an old piano in our cottage and I was teaching myself on that. Obviously that changed when we moved. I can still enjoy listening to it however and I am so looking forward to conference also! Bring it on! xoxo

Your comments mean the world to me, and while I may not be able to address each one individually, each one is important to me and each one counts. Thanks so much!
