The Simple Woman's Daybook

FOR TODAY, March 3rd, 2020

Outside my window ...
Tis dark and raining and the gulls are making quite a bit of noise so it must be nasty on the coastline.  They ususally come inland when that happens.

I am thinking ...
British Air and Ryan Air are now cancelling short haul flights between the UK and most European countries and JFK.  I wonder if Air Canada will be next. I may not be seeing my children afterall, but better safe than sorry.  I would not want anything to happen to them. This is getting serious. There is talk of school closures, etc. I have plenty of things stockpiled so that we will be able to stay indoors for several weeks if we need to. Because we are both in high risk groups that are the most vulnerable we do need to be careful.

I am thankful for ...
A Government and Health Care System that are doing their best to keep people safe.

In the kitchen ...

Nothing new today, but I am sharing these Apple Pie Rolls Ups which are deliciously simple to make!

On my "To Cook" list ...

Simply Recipes.  White Bean & Ham Soup.  This looks fabulously tasty!

Good to know ...

I am creating ...

Smart School House.  How to make gel air freshener.

Little House of Four.  Dollar Tree Hobnail Milk Glass.

A Piece of Rainbow.  DIY Watercolour Pop Up Birthday Card.

Little House of Four.  DIH Photo Coasters.

No source, but cute and easy don't you think?

I am reading ...

On Grief and Grieving, by Elizabeth Kubler Ross and David Kessler.

One of the most important psychological studies of the late twentieth century,OnDeath and Dyinggrew out of Dr. Elisabeth Kubler-Ross's famous interdisciplinary seminar on death, life and transition. In this remarkable book, Dr. Kubler-Ross first explores the now-famous stages of death: denial and isolation, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance. Through sample interviews and conversations, she gives the reader a better understanding of how imminent death affects the patient, the professionals who serve that patient, and the patient's family, bringing hope to all who are involved. This edition includes an introduction by Dr. Ira Byock, a prominent palliative care physican and the author of Dying Well.

I am learning a lot.

    1. I'm with you on all fronts Monique! I read a disturbing article this morning that said they tested the order screens in McDonald's restaurants and found that many of them are contaminated with fecal material. Gross! I never use them. But I have to think about payment/card readers, bank machines, etc. Horror of all horrors! xoxo

  3. I'll be praying that your family will still be able to come and visit. You've been waiting for such a long time and I know how much it means to you. I love your cheerful flowers on the window sill. I have to say I miss having a window sill. the windows don't have them here.

  4. Hi Marie~

I pray that your kids will be able to come to see you, but I agree, better safe than sorry.

I needed to pick up a few things for my storage today...Sam's Club was almost out of toilet paper, so I bought 2 ;0) I think hygiene is the most important thing for most people, hand washing is the biggie, as well as staying home if you don't feel well. To tell you the truth, I would love it if someone told me I had to stay home and not go anywhere! That said, I am also among those who would not do well if I caught the virus, I have always had bad lungs.

Lots of cute things to look at today! I love the cute pots on your window sill, they remind me of Spring, very cheery! We have had a few days of warmer weather - meaning above freezing - so some of our snow is melting. We are suppose to get into the upper 40's next week, so Spring seems a little closer, I'm ready for it.

Take care Marie, you and Todd are in my prayers, love you XOXO

    Hugs and Love,
    Barb

    1. Its crazy Barb, but we have done the same thing. Stocked up on Toilet rolls an shelf stable milk and a few other odds and sodds. We will use it eventually I am sure, but hopefully not because of the virus! I love my windowsill also. Flowers on a window sill are such a cheery thing to do! Love and hugs and I hope you see Spring soon! xoxo

  5. I love how pretty your birds look in the window with the sun shining on them. Fingers crossed your little chickadees will make it safely across the pond. That bean and ham soup looks delicious. Take gentle care, hugs, Elaine

  6. Hi, Marie! VERY much hoping your children will still be able to travel to see you--so close now! There are 35 folks infected with Corona here. Trying to "keep calm and carry on"... :/ The media here have been good with info here, and not scaring us... haha! I used to make a soup similar to that ham & bean soup, but would sometimes add tiny dumplings to it. VERY cute how to make a hobnail glass vase--so clever. That pop up card is a great idea too! Wow--that tiny kitchen is inspiration! LOVE the primroses on your window sill! Your current reading sounds like it offers good support... I'm glad for something that helps you. LOVE YOU LOTS ((BIG HUGS))
