My Favourite things . . .

https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOOPpfEd5Zsq2tbOc2-UBk6Njak8VrG7e7evggWXGZ2mh-j53ekFS5_iJ7oLR7meELGbGOHT1tpJoMRH-WDForIBx-F86puBU5K_uuGKf1hWiGc5Jko8kG6S71gFooUD3ZEZNrNzAWfJI/s320/alfp_favorite_things.png

These are a few of my favourite things.  Maybe some of them are yours also!  A few of the things which catch my eye, inspire me, pluck at my heart strings, make me smile, intrigue me or that I just plain enjoy. I hope that they will do the same for you.

Finding hearts in nature.  Reminders of our Heavenly Father's love for us?  Happy co-incidence?  I don't know.  I kind of like thinking they are reminders of my Heavenly Father's love.  Whatever they are, they always make me smile.

The Suffragettes.  Strong and beautiful women of courage.  Women who fought for all of us so that we could do something so simple as vote and have a say in the running of our country, for basic equality and recognition.  What they did can never be under-estimated. I am always grateful for their courage and will never take my rights for granted.

Having a dedicated writing spot.  In the house we built as a family in New Brunswick I had designed the kitchen so that it had a built in writing desk and little bookcase for cookbooks.  That was my favourite kitchen.

Messy buns, now if I could only figure out how to do one  . . .

The smell of lemons  . . .  I think lavender and lemon is my favourite combination  . . .

The love between mother and child . . .  you see it all through nature. It is a beautiful thing.  A natural thing.  If its not there, that is most unnatural.

Especially new books  . . .  paper  . . . I love it.

Butterflies.  Can you imagine if you could get a butterfly massage?  I wonder what it would feel like, probably a bit tickly. . . .

How do you catch a moonbeam in your hand . . . .

Old furniture repurposed  . . . .

Children at the Beach.  A watercolour by Maurice Pendergrast  . . .  Love his art.

Little stone bridges in out of the way places.  You can find them all over the place here in the UK.

Farm yard birds  . . .  especially geese and chickens . . .  hmmm . . .  love the way geese waddle . .  .

The way they like to play peek-a-boo . . . .

Birds and their nests by Mary Howitt . . .  published in 1895, this book contains beautiful engravings by the illustrator Harrison Weir.

I really love this type of thing.  They can hold me in fascination for hours  . . .

Cottage gardens and cottage garden flowers  . . .

Hot chocolate with marshmallows  . . .

Horses.  They are beautiful creatures.  I'm afraid to ride them, because they are so big, but I love to watch them.

The water babies  . . . .

Disney's Fantasia  . . . it combines two of my loves, classical music and dancing hippos  . . .

Speaking of Classical music, this cd accompanied almost all of our car journies when my children were growing up.  In fact I am listening to it now.  I like to think that it caused them to appreciate some of the classics  . . .

Front porches  . . . a place to sit and watch the world go by  . . .

Chocolate covered toffee  . . .

Tea and cookies  . . . .

Whistling kettles  . . .

The movie Somewhere in Time with Christopher Reeves and Jane Seymour  . . .

Iron beds . . . .

 Ginger hair . . . .

And those are my favourite things for this week . . . . I hope that some of them were also some of yours  . . .

A thought to carry with you  . . .

  2. I do have a great love for porches. It's so nice to have a place to sit and watch nature and see the world go by. I hope to be spending a lot of time on mine come Spring. Right now it's much too cold.

  3. Hi Marie~

What a wonderful mix of good things! Those kitchens...oh my, I love them all, especially the one with the cast iron stove, so homey. The vases of wildflowers make me think of spring...I know it's coming, but it's so cold here! And horses! I can't wait to get the horses back in our pasture. They are old and swayback, but I just love them...they make me smile. Books, yes, the smell of books, yes! Somewhere in time...I love the soundtrack and listen to it often, so soothing. I love Fantasia too, my kids didn't like to watch it but they liked to listen to it, I loved both!

Taylor made it to New Zealand! She will be able to talk to her parents next Thursday, which will be Wednesday for her, so crazy, she lost a whole day! So excited for her journey, and the blessings to come for her and her family!!

Love you tons, Marie! Thank you for always posting these wonderful little spinets of good things, I love them! XOXO

    Hugs and Love,
    Barb

Her youtube place is: Sandi Brock is her name...maybe you can find her. I could send a link too.
