My Favourite Things . . .

A few of the things I really love in life, maybe some of them are yours also. Lets share together!

Spending time with friends. We thorougly enjoyed our lunch with Tina and Tony yesterday. Mitzie went along so she enjoyed the break as well.  Tina had made a lovely chicken curry so we had that along with a homemade treacle sponge with custard for dessert, and then afterwards we enjoyed a card game together.  Mostly,  however, we enjoyed the time spent together.  Time spent with good friends is one of my favourite things.
My sister's artwork. (I hope she doesn't mind me showing you!)  I think my sister is pretty special and her work is inspiring.  This is her latest creation, done with a palatte knife in acrylics, and I think it is really REALLY good!  Her talent really amazes me.  Well done sis!
I was ordering a few little bits for Maryn's birthday present the other day from Dot Com Gift Shop and these were on sale. I could not resist because you know how much I love red and white toadstools!  Blown glass.  Seriously cute.  Many of the things I love rolled into one  . . . red and white toadstools, blown glass, polka dots, gingham.  Sigh . . .

Barbie.  I have a reproduction Barbie just like this one and I used to have a black patent leather case to hold my Barbie when I was a child.  This tweaks all my buttons, wih the clothes hanging there and everything.  I just want to start playing with it.  So many happy memories are tied up in my Barbie days.

Decorative Tins.  I love them. I used to have a magnificent collection of them when we had our house in New Brunswick. There was space over the tops of my cupboards and I had them lined up around them to decorate my kitchen.  They looked really nice.  Now I use them to store things.  My markers are in them, I have made sewing kits in them, etc.  If you have any old quality street, etc. tins you will want to hang onto them because they are not making them out of tin anymore, but plastic!  UGH!

I know we are late to the table but we are enjoying Once Upon a Time on Netflix..  We did watch a few of the earlier shows when it was on the television originally, but we did not watch the whole thing. We are now and thoroughly enjoying it.  Its very clever.

This is my cookie jar.  I have had her for a very long time.  I bought her at a yard sale, many moons ago.  She sits on my sideboard. She is very well traveled.  She came from I don't know where, into my home and then travelled across the Atlantic Ocean with me.  I used to also have a cowboy one  . . . but sadly he broke.
Hoosier Cabinets. I would love to have one of these.  I think they are amazing.

I also love Welsh Dressers.
Barns.  Old. New.  Everything in between. I could spend hours looking at them.  When we used to travel through New Hampshire I was fascinated by the barns attached to the houses, which must have been totally practical in the winter!

Roast Chicken.  I think I love it even more than turkey. I could eat a roast chicken every week and be perfectly content. You can get a good three or more meals from a large roasted chicken.  I love it roasted the first day, with gravy and mashed potatoes, and then sandwiches or a casserole the second day and then a lovely pot of soup from the bones.   You cannot beat a tasty roast chicken for eating pleasure!

Vegetables.  I have never met a vegetable I did not like.  I could eat them happily three times a day.  Raw, roasted, boiled, steamed.  I just love vegetables.  On their own, combined, etc. I could not live without vegetables and have a hard time getting my head around people not liking them?

Likewise fruits.  I do have my ultra favourites when it comes to fruit and some I am just so/so with, but for the most part I really like fruit as well.

EAT A RAINBOW!

I am a huge fan of NICE television.  Little House on the Prairie.  The Waltons. Road to Avonlea. Andy Griffith, etc. I love it all and would be happy just watching things like this forever.  No violence, sex or swearing.  It is television with good morals, and I quite enjoy it.

Victorian Wooden Penny Peg Dolls.  I love them.  But then again, I just love dolls in general. My sister used to make Victorian Peg dolls to sell and they were gorgeous.  I wish she still did.

And those are my favourite things for this week.  What are some of yours?

A thought to carry with you  . . .

BOOK OF MORMON CORNER - Today's Reading -  Jacob 6:1-13
Question - What is Jacob emphasising about God's character in these verses? How do you cleave unto God?

My Thoughts - God is merciful, forgiving, wise, just and patient. Jacob calls us to repentance. He talks about not ignoring the "word" of CHRIST, the "power" of GOD and the "gift" of the HOLY GHOST. All members of the Godhead!

God's hands are continually stretched out towards us. Will we reject him and his words and his holy prophets? Will we reject the plan of redemption which was made for us, personally? We are invited to repent, to continue in the narrow way, and partake of his heavenly gift? We are agents to act, to choose for ourselves, either eternal life with God, or the like of fire and brimstone. If we harden our hearts, we will not return to him. When I cleave to him, I partake fully of his love and mercy. I ask him for strength beyond my own to overcome challenges, I ask him for his power to help me love my neighbour and not judge or criticise. I ask for him to make me whole, clean and pure.

I do this through the medium of daily prayer. Having a continual prayer in my heart. Whether it's a prayer of thanks, of repentance, of asking for guidance or a plea for His comfort help and strength. Prayer makes all the difference to how I keep my covenants and cleave unto God every single day. I have been a person who prays throughout my whole life.

Tomorrow's reading (Day 86) -  Jacob 7:1-20
Question - What have you learnt from the reading today? How can you avoid being deceived as Sherem was?

In The English Kitchen today, an afternoon tea to chase away the Winter Blues.  Sausage rolls, pikelets, finger sandwiches, cake, etc.  Afternoon tea, another one of my favourite things!

Have a fabulous Thursday!  Don't forget along the width and breadth of your day!

  1. Oh Marie how I wish I could dive into your blog and live amongst all the lovely things you find. It is almost dark now and I have yet to hang out the last lot of washing. It will go under the covered way and I can light it so I will be waiting for the world to cool a little before heading out there.

Today I was able to go to the quilt shop and play around a little. If I make myself sew this weekend I could finish it. IT is Australia Day tomorrow so for regular workers they have a bonus long weekend. I plan to stay cool and watch England and Australia play cricket.

God bless you and keep you.

  2. I'm so glad you had a good time with your friends Tina and Tony. It's good to get outdoors in the winter.

Your sister sure knows how to draw! I enjoy seeing her paintings also.

I had alot of Barbie and Ken dolls too. I also had Midge and her boyfriend,Skipper and her little sister Tutti?, and a Tammy doll too. I had 14 dolls in all with lots of clothes from my Aunt Mary. I was talked into giving them to my niece when I was 13 and I always regreted it! They were very special to me bc now my Aunt and my best friend whom I played dolls with every day are in heaven. Sigh!

Where in N.H.did you use to travel through to see the farms Marie? I thought you just went through Vt.

I love chicken also. I made chicken with pesto and garlic sauce with pasta a few days ago. Yum!

I like some veggies and most of the fruits. Lately I can't get enough of butternut squash, sweet potatoes and broccoli.

Now that I'm getting hungry I need to fall asleep. Lol.

    Love and big hugs! ~♥~

  7. Im so happy when you post about moments with friends. It sounds like such a fun time. I especially like that you play games. I think we should do more of that.
Your sister is very talented; I like her art work. I love that she used to make the Victorian Peg dolls; sweet.
I think I will look at the Dot Com gift shop. I love polka dots too.
I didn't play with Barbie dolls growing up; but I did like baby dolls. I love the Barbie and her clothes all hung up. My girls loved playing with Barbie dolls growing up. It is still an in thing to do.
Decorative tins are fun and I like the idea that you used them to decorate. I like to use the tins for storing items too.
One of my favorite thing is Cookie Jars that is such a cute one. I am presently looking for one for my kitchen. We are changing some colors so I want to find a new one.
The Cabinet and dresser is awesome; I loved them both.
I have always been facinated by barns and I don't know if I have ever seen a photo of a barn attached to a house. Loved the photo!
I too love chicken, veggies and fruit. It is a mainstay around here.
Old time TV shows are the best; I wish they were back. I loved my earlier days of good old fashioned TV series. Recently they were showing an old cowboy series that I used to watch as a kid. I haven't had a chance to watch any but maybe I will.
I always enjoy your thoughts on The Book of Mormon. I think you would be a wonderful Gospel Doctrine teacher.
Sending warm thoughts and hugs your way! Love you~
