My Favourite Things . . .

These are a few of my favourite things . . . maybe you like the same things too?

Getting surprise visits from the Elders.  They popped by yesterday and we were both so excited to see Elder Atkinson (on the left) and Elder VanDyken (right).   We get to see Elder V fairly often at present, but we had not seen Elder Atkinson in a long time because he doesn't serve in our area anymore, but in Manchester.  He was doing splits yesterday with Elder V and just wanted to stop by and see us.  He says we are two of his favourite people.  When I opened the door and saw him, I almost jumped for joy.  It was so exciting!  We just love these young people and the ones that we got to serve with were and are really special to us.  I didn't think we would have a chance to see Elder A again before he left to go home.  We were his first area that he served in.   He came to our 4th of July BBQ that year as one of his first activities.  He has grown so much since then in many ways.  He is a lovely young man.  So is Elder V.  We love all the missionaries and when they love us back that is just one of my favourite things!   (I know Todd doesn't look very excited in the photo, but trust me when I say that he was!  I also just noticed Mitzie down in the lower right hand corner of the photo.  The Missionaries are one of her favourite things too!)

I just really, really love the  game Township that I play on my iPad.  It is such a simple game for me to play, and quite challenging.  I don't need to be tecchie saavy to play it.  I simply need to be able to solve small puzzles and fill orders.  You grow your own crops and then feed your animals and then produce goods in your factories, etc.  and then you fill orders.  Orders come by  plane, train and helicopter which presents a challenge because you have to produce the goods to fill those orders and you have time limits with the aircraft at any rate to fill them.  You need to think and to plan.  I love it when I have filled all of my planes holds and can send it off, or when I fill all the cars on my train and send it chug chugging away.  I love it when I fill the helicopter orders.  In exchange you get Township cash that you can use to build houses and buy factories, etc. and grow your town.   Its a lot of fun!  NOBODY gets killed or blown up, and my brain gets some exercise!  ♥♥♥

I love embroidery scissors.   I have always had a thing for embroidery scissors and look what I found yesterday for in my sewing boxes.  Ladybird ones.   I ordered some.   I already had these for the woodland box . . .

They are fairy ones.  I have a pair of the black and one of the green.  The Ladybird ones will go in the scottie dog box.   Now I need to find some thimbles.  I am thinking porcelain ones.  But we will see.  Oh, I can't wait to see these done!

Cookies/Biscuits that are too pretty to eat.   These are from here.   A part of me wishes so much that I had the patience and skill to do this type of thing, but I do not have either the patience or the skill.

Seriously some are such beautiful works of art.  I cannot imagine the time that is taken to decorate them.  I love to look though.  In all truth, sometimes they are not the most edible cookies, but they truly are oh so pretty.  I bought some tea pot cookie cutters once upon a time.  (I have all sorts of cookie cutters)  The idea was that I was going to make lovely tea pot cookies for a tea party.

More truth.
I did not
have
the
patience.

So they never got iced.  haha.  That is me.

But that brings me to another one of my great favourites.  Cookie Cutters.  I must have a hundred different ones, which is quite a few for a person who doesn't have the patience for cookie decorating.  Seriously I need to go through them and get rid of the ones I am never going to ever use.  There is a young woman at church who loves to bake and decorate.  I am sure she would enjoy them.   That is another favourite thing of mine . . .

Being able to share my abundance with others.  Seriously.  I have always been far more comfortable with giving than I have been with receiving.   I love to share.  It makes me happy to see others happy.   And I am not just saying that.   When my kids were growing up I always had a hard time waiting to give them their Birthday/Christmas/Easter etc. presents.  Most of the fun for me was seeing their faces light up.  Nothing changes.  I am still the same.  I still get a real sense of leasure from seeing someone's face light up and knowing I was the cause.  I hope that isn't selfish of me, but somehow I think it just might be . . .  hmm . . .  I will have to think about that one.

I love, LOVE this.  I struggle with some of the things on this list.  The first one especially.  But I am working on it.  I love having something to work towards and goals.  Everyone should have goals.  I also tend to forget a lot of things these days, so I need to make lists.   Otherwise, I would forget.  Is this just me or is it my age?

Some of my most favourite things ARE the little things.  Like getting an unexpected letter or visit or e-mail.  Cashiers in the grocery store who actually smile at me and try to make conversation instead of talking to their co-worker sitting behind them.  Being made to feel like I matter.  It takes such a little effort, but it is such a BIG thing to do for someone else.  A smile.  A handshake.  A hug.  A forget-me-not effort.  Calling someone you know who can't get out before you go out to do your shopping and asking them if there is anything they need.   Giving up your seat on the bus to someone who looks like they need it more.  Being gracious in thought, word and deed.

Little things,
they mean
a
lot.

Candy sprinkles.  I am not so much a fan of eating them as I am of seeing them.  I always spend some time in the shops looking at them.   I have quite an assortment.  They are an easy way to make something look pretty when you don't have the patience to get all fiddly and actually decorate something.  Yes, I am that lazy!

Edible things that crunch.  Sweet.  Salty.  Savoury.  Sweet and salty together.  I am a big fan of crunch.  Potatoe chips, pretzels, cookies, bread sticks, crackers, biscotti, melba toast, nacho chips, cornflakes before you put the milk on, malteasers, etc.   If it crunches and tastes nice, I am a big fan.

I am not a fan of
body crunches
too much
exercise
blah!

And those are some of my favourite things for this week.  Did I manage to touch on some of yours?

A thought to carry with you  . . .

In The English Kitchen today  . . .  Grilled Cheese Dogs.  Another favourite thing.  I love HotDogs.

Have a wonderful Thursday. I will have my nose to the grindstone again today, but no worries I am enjoying every minute. I guess I am not lazy about everything.   Don't forget!

  4. I have never seen such lovely wee scissors, you find such lovely things, I can't wait to see everything when you have finished ....you must have enjoyed the visit from the two young lads very much, it's lovely that they want to spend time with you both......Well you were going to have a busy day wonder what you have been doing, looking forward to reading all, about it tomorrow....I had the Thursday coffee and chat this morning, it was not quite so,busy as it is sometime. I also had a meeting with our minister Elizabeth as our church worker Helen is off for a month due to family matters, I was asked to,arrange the Woman's Day of Prayer ....it takes place on 1st Friday in March......I had to rope Elizabeth in as I really didn't want to do everything ....anyway she was great and agreed to take a full part in the service, so that's something else almost sorted out......take care mGod Bless. 5. I did enjoy this one! I do think that the best part of our missionary work is being with the Elders and Sisters. We love them all. I loved the photo and thought Todd looked awesome. The Elders are always so fun. I couldn't imagine not loving the two of you the best. Besides, you cooking must have been so yummy and they would want to come back for more.
I too love crunchy foods; probably chips the best. But, to be truthful, I just love good. That Grilled Dog looks so good; I haven't had one for a very long time.
I do love your generous and sharing heart; you do so much for others. You are the best! Hugs for you dear friend~

Thanks Pam! I have been slow to visit this week. Too much on my plate I think! xoxo

Love reading about your days Sybil. Your coffee and chat sounds like fun and how wonderful that you are arranging a Woman's Day of Prayer! I mostly just worked on my book yesterday. Such a lot to get done in such a short time! God bless! xoxo

Thanks LeAnn! Todd is looking a bit tired these days, but can't be helped and he was very excited to see Elder Atkinson since he started his mission in our Zone. It would be lovely if he could finish it in our Ward! Love and hugs to you and Roger! xoxo
