Words fail me . . .

When I was growing up I had the priviledge of spending many of my formative years in the Province of Nova Scotia.  I had lived their briefly as a baby and again as a four year old, but when I was 10 we moved there for good and my family has lived there ever since.  I moved away when I was 21 and lived pretty much in many spots across Canada, but was fortunate enough to live there for a four year period in my late 20's early thirties and moved back for good when I was in my early 40's, a couple of years prior to moving here to the UK.  Half of my ancestry were some of the early settlers in Nova Scotia, and some of them were there to greet the early settlers when they arrived.  I think its pretty fair to say I am a Nova Scotioner through and through. (Despite having been born on PEI.)

Nova Scotia is an area of stunning beauty, filled with beautiful coastal villages and seaside towns . . . .

Stunning lighthouses  . . .

Picturesque cities  . . . .

Quaint little towns . . . .

Stunning scenery, such as the beautiful Annapolis Valley where I am from  . . .

Some of the freshest seafood in the world, and some of the nicest people in Canada  . . . .

With around 1 million people, Nova Scotia boasts no less than 10 degree granting universities, the highest concentration of universities Canada has to offer.

I am always amazed when people say they are going to Canada, and then concentrate only on visiting areas from Montreal and to the West . . .  leaving out the Maritimes completely.  I know I am a bit biased, but to my thinking they are leaving off some of the best and  most beautiful parts of Canada, and in specific!  Nova Scotia!

There you can enjoy beautiful wineries, and dulse . . . an acquired taste, but one that I miss . . .  (dried seaweed, a most nutritious snack.)

Moon mist ice cream  . . .  Digby scallops, some of the best clams and mussels  . . .  beautiful LOBSTERS . . .

Hodge Podge (a springtime right of passage), Summer Savoury  . . .  and Halifax's King of Donair, only the best Donair's in the world.

An abundance of wild blueberries and some of the best apples in Canada, and I am only getting started  . . .

 Maud Lewis . . . .

Great fish and chips and haddie bits  . . . .  and their own Nova Scotia Tartan.  The Scottish settlers are the ones who named it Nova Scotia. New Scotland, after their homeland, because it reminded them very much of where they came from, especially Cape Breton  . . .

My heart broke  alittle bit  yesterday when I read of the mass shooting which had occurred.  A lone gunman, first disguised as an RCMP officer, even up to his car being camoflauged to look like a police vehicle, killing at least 16 (they have no idea at the moment how many more he might have killed. they are still trying to establish a final death toll) including one female RCMP officer (a 23 year veteran with a husband and children) in a random, gun rampage in small town Nova Scotia. It is believed to be Canada's worst mass shooting.  My DIL is an RCMP officer, which really hits close to home.

How could this happen in such a beautiful place where there are so many mild mannered, decent, law abiding kind people.  People move there to retire because it is a calmer, kinder, gentler, slower pace of life. Evil truly knows no boundaries . . . I find it all very shocking.  Things like this just don't happen in my Nova Scotia.

On top of everything else at the moment, to have this to contend with . . .  the mind boggles.  Shocking and heart-breaking to say the least.  My heart and prayers are with the people of my beautiful Nova Scotia at the moment as they come to terms with this terrible atrocity.  Words fail me . . .

A thought to carry with you  . . .

In The English Kitchen today  . . . .  Butter Roasted Tomato Sauce.  Delicious!

May your Monday and week be blessed in so many ways you can't count them.  Don't forget in the days and weeks to come . . . no matter what  . . .

  4. Some things are beyond understanding...At least they caught the criminal and now he can harm no others!! But sudden death is so hard to accept, esp. when not an accident. The area sounds like a Paradise but it will need time to heal from all this...may GOD help them all!!
