My Favourite Things . . .

https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOOPpfEd5Zsq2tbOc2-UBk6Njak8VrG7e7evggWXGZ2mh-j53ekFS5_iJ7oLR7meELGbGOHT1tpJoMRH-WDForIBx-F86puBU5K_uuGKf1hWiGc5Jko8kG6S71gFooUD3ZEZNrNzAWfJI/s320/alfp_favorite_things.png

These are a few of my favourite things.  Maybe some of them are yours also!  A few of the things which catch my eye, inspire me, pluck at my heart strings, make me smile, intrigue me or that I just plain enjoy. I hope that they will do the same for you.

Over 400,000 people in this country have stepped up and volunteered to help the NHS.  405,000 to be exact.  Our Government had expected maybe  about 250,00 over a few days, but on the very first day, over 400,000!!  Anyone who is over 18, healthy and non-symptomatic was asked if they would step up  and help the NHS to help the vulnerable.  The response has been amazing.  I love the British people.  Nobody digs deeper when push comes to shove.  They are amazing!

We are having a box of fresh fruit and vegetables delivered to our door tomorrow.  Praise God!  Although I have some tinned fruit and vegetables (read not a lot) I was worried a bit.  No, we wouldn't starve, but our health was going to be compromised by eating  nothing but baked beans, tuna, etc. without any really fresh vegetables.  Yesterday morning a friend on facebook who lives in Scotland (I met her on the same LDS site that I met Todd 21 years ago) put me onto a site that was just for Chester people and I found that people from the city indoor market were putting together boxes of things to deliver to people who are shut in and isolating, in vulnerable groups, and they will bring it right to your door. It took us about half a day to get in touch, but we are having one delivered tomorrow.  Apples, pears, kiwi, cauliflower, broccoli, cabbage, carrots, potatoes, onions etc.  I was so grateful. Our Prime Minister has told us to eat healthy food, fresh fruit and vegetables and I had despaired of being able to do that.

Lessons From Liberty Jail.  This is a talk that I had listened to some time ago and one that I had really enjoyed.  It was a BYU address that Elder Jeffrey R Holland had given some 12 years ago now.  We listened to it last night and I was so impressed with how applicable it was to what we are all going through now.  We were both so uplifted by listening to it. You don't need to be a member of our church to feel inspired by listening to it.  In the talk he highlights three important lessons we can learn from the incarcaration of Joseph Smith and other church leaders in the Liberty Jail in Missouri for several months during the winter of 1838/39.  It is really worth a listen.  I promise you, you will feel uplifted by his words.

Every one of us, in one way or another, great or small,
dramatic or incidental, is going to spend
a little time in Liberty Jail—spiritually speaking.
~Jeffrey R Holland

Basically the talk is about how we can turn our Spiritual Prisons into Spiritual Temples.

Door stops  that are more than just a wedge of wood or plastic.  I love this wee mouse.  Things like this give a home character and personality.

Whimsical garden features like this tap.  Fairies hidden amongst the flowers, etc.  Little things that create interest in a garden.

Now that's a cute and whimsical paper towel holder.  One of the few ways I would ever allow a mouse in my house!

I love these animals carved from clothespins by Marie Elisabeth.  Aren't they cute!  Such talent!

I have always loved Prim Decor.  That is what started me buying Country Living Magasine all those years ago. I used to sit and dream about the homes on those pages and turning mine into something similar.  Maybe when I get my mansion in the sky  . . .

Anything pumpkin.  Dishes, ornaments, etc.

These carved wooden robins by Nick Hunter.  They are adorable. I love bird anything.

Pockets. If you have a pocket you always have a place to put things  . . .

 Lace curtains  . . . .

I love grating plates. I don't have one, but I love them. What a novel idea.

Everything about this  . . .  the collar, the buttons, the fabric, the pleats  . . .

And that is that!  How are you all doing?  I have been praying for all the world.  Yesterday I was able to talk to my sister, my dad, my oldest son and his boys, my oldest daughter, my middle son.  I am so thankful for modern technology and the opportunity it gives us to stay in touch.  So far everyone is well.  My sister and her husband have colds, which means they are not able to help my dad at the moment, but he seems very content for the time being.  A bit lonely perhaps, but he has his radios to keep him company and fiddle with.  I did find that he was repeating himself a bit, but at 86 I think he is overall doing really well.

I was sad to hear that Prince Charles has tested positive for the Virus.  I hope the Queen is safe, and that Charles makes it through.  Fingers are crossed and prayers said.

A thought to carry with you  . . .

In The English Kitchen today  Sausage, Vegetable and Gravy Bake.  Sized for two but can be very easily doubled.

I hope you are able to enjoy a few of your favourite things today.  Know you are each one in my prayers for safety and health.  Don't forget!

  1. I think many of us..are proud of our health care workers volunteers..grocery store clerks..all front liners..even behind the scenes..the unsung unseen heroes.
Prince Charles will have the best of care of this I am certain.
    Best of doctors..surroundings..apparatus..

We read of a priest who gave his ventilator to a younger patient and died.

  2. Prayers being said for all too. Seems like a little thing but really is a big thing. Glad your family is doing ok, so are mine. Many are doing much to help out. Bad times seem to bring out the good in us.

  3. Oh my I love that doorstop! I actually was just given a vintage cast iron fruit basket door stop & I'm using it to hold the french door open to my screened porch. My 2 yr old grandson asked what it was & when I told him it was a basket of fruit he wanted his own basket...I had to get a little basket & put an apple & an orange in it for him to carry around. I seriously hesitated to give him that fruit...but he was very careful with it.

Now the paper towel holder...no I can't say I like it.

I will check out the carvings. A friend's teen son has started making this & is pretty good at it. So adorable. I will share this with him. The robins are adorable too.

My grandson discovered his pockets this week...he filled them with flowers! :)

We are well here. My husband is finally working from home thankfully. I am tired from chasing a 2 yr old pretty constantly but that is definitely nothing to complain about.

    1. This is a great opportunity for us to learn new skills and to spend precious time with our loved ones who are sharing our homes. What a blessing you have this time to spend time with your grandson. xoxo
