The Simple Woman's Daybook . . .

FOR TODAY, January 28th, 2020

Outside my window ...
Its dark and cold, but dry.  Dry is always a bonus. We live in such a wet country, which makes it very green of course, but still one does get a bit tired of rain at times.

I am thinking ...
I only have 12% power left on my laptop.  It won't go up any higher. I think it needs a new battery. I need to be taking things off and storing them on a stick so I don't lose them. Sad about that, because I have my picasa on here and once that is gone, they don't make it anymore and I don't know what program I will use to edit my photos.

I am thankful for ...
The 12% I have!   Also yesterday we were putting together a table and Todd put wooden plugs into the wrong holes and then we couldn't get them out because of course he pounded them in with a hammer and they were in the wrong holes!  Had to pry them out with a pair of pliers and they of course didn't all come out and what did was in shreds.  He had to go to the shops to buy some more wooden plugs and our table is missing screws on the side that should have gone into those holes.  But its together and usable so I am thankful for that. I usually supervise which drives him nuts but things go right. Yesterday I thought I would leave him to it because I wanted him to be stress free and look what happened.  Sigh  . . . he is so not handy around the house in that way. He could organise the vatican but not so good at doing things  like putting furniture together or hanging pictures.

In the kitchen ...

Mapled Pork Chops for Two.  Tender, delicious and flavourful. No fuss, no muss, no fry.  Simply pour, cover and bake.  Easy peasy.

Taste & Tell.  Maple Mustard Grilled Chicken Wings.

Good to Know ...
Forked Spoon. How to cook bacon in the oven.

 I am creating ...
Molly and Mama.  Cute little felt bunnies.

Dream a Little Bigger.  Felt Bunny Bags.

Polka Dot Chair.  Fabric headbands.

Flamingo Toes.  Heart Sachets.

The Birched Cottage. Terra Cotta Pot Ideas.

I am Reading ...
Miss Austin, by Gill Hornby
A wonderfully original, emotionally complex novel that delves into why Cassandra burned a treasure trove of letters written by her sister, Jane Austen – an act of destruction that has troubled academics for centuries.

1840: twenty three years after the death of her famous sister Jane, Cassandra Austen returns to the village of Kintbury, and the home of her family’s friends, the Fowles. She knows that, in some dusty corner of the sprawling vicarage, there is a cache of family letters which hold secrets she is desperate should not be revealed. As Cassandra recalls her youth and her relationship with her brilliant yet complex sister, she pieces together buried truths about Jane’s history, and her own. And she faces a stark choice: should she act to protect Jane’s reputation? Or leave the contents of the letters to go unguarded into posterity …

Based on a literary mystery that has long puzzled biographers and academics, Miss Austen is a wonderfully original and emotionally complex novel about the loves and lives of Cassandra and Jane Austen.

I have only just started this, but it is touted to be the best novel of 2020 so far.

    1. OH I would probably lov your Varage Sales Monique! Its probably a good thing I can't do them as my house would be filling up faster than I could empty it! My sister is going through the wars in every way at the moment. Thanks for your thoughts concerning her. I have not been able to talk to her. I know she enjoying seeing her other children and meeting her two grands that she had not seen yet, but the joy I am sure is tempered with a truly broken heart. xoxo

  2. Hi Marie - fun post with lots of interesting things. My husband is pretty good at assembling furniture, but some of it is very complex and it is easy to make mistakes. Glad you are able to use your table. The book you are reading sounds very good. Thanks for the recommendation! Enjoy the rest of the week.

    1. Thanks Deb! Todd likes to think he is good at it, but I've never had a towel rail that had stayed hanging after he hung it, lol He tries and that's what counts xoxo

  3. Hi Marie~

I just love all of the things in your daybook! I love old things, like tablecloths, gadgets and red and white enamel ware. I have been lucky enough to have been given some of these things to me by my mom before she passed away...I cherish them.

I also love the adorable little hearts...I might try to make a few of them for my ministering sisters, they would love them! I visit a wonderful sister and her daughter, who has Downs Syndrome and she loves little tiny things, like the little bunnies.

It has snowed here all day, and it's suppose to start blowing soon...that means lots of clean up tomorrow. I think at this point, I would just as soon have rain ;0)

I'm so sorry that you are having computer problems, I have to be very careful with mine, because it's so finicky! But, being grateful for the 12% is one of the things that makes you so amazing!! XOXO

    Hugs and Love,
    Barb

Your comments mean the world to me, and while I may not be able to address each one individually, each one is important to me and each one counts. Thanks so much!
