The Simple Woman's Daybook . . .

FOR TODAY, February 6, 2018

Outside my window...
It is dark, but the birds are already chirping. Its cold. I have turned on the heat. They are saying that most of Great Britain can expect snow at some point today or tomorrow. We will see.  It usually misses us. Watch this space!  Is it childish to still get excited about snow at the age of 62 1/2??

I am thinking ...
I don't understand so many things in the world. There is much I cannot make any sense of. There are probably some things I will NEVER understand. But I do know that God is good, no matter what happens, and that He loves His children, all of them, the bad and the good and everything in between. That is good enough for me. In HIM I do trust.

In the Kitchen ...

Proof positive that it IS possible to have a lovely big breakfast that is still healthy and low in fat, with spinach scrambled eggs on whole wheat toast, pesto roasted baby portabella mushrooms and thyme roasted vine tomatoes. We actually had this for a lovely light supper, and it was delicious! Get the recipe here

On  my "To Cook" list ...

From The Skinny Kitchen.  Beyond Decadent, Skinny Lasagne Alfredo.  I'll have to figure out to make my own from scratch skinny Alfredo Sauce however.  Watch this space.

Good to know ...

From Your House and Garden. Easy Peasy.

I am creating ...

Thread Riding Hood.  A sew along project for a quiet book.  With 12 fabric only pages, cover and page assembly, and 27 free page post tutorials.  What an amazing project!

Lots of eye candy from Artful Play.  Love this girs work.  Her paper doll characters are amazing.

Draw and Paint a Boy from Mindy Lacefield. Love her inspiration.

Something for next year.  Simple Twine Angels.  From My Craftchens.

A sweet knitted Duffle Coat for baby, from Debbie Bliss on Ravelry.

I am reading ...

A Walk to Remember by Nicholas Sparks
Can you resist the depths of the human heart? It is 1958 and seventeen-year-old Landon is revelling in his youth: dating girls and even claiming to have been in love. He is a world apart from shy, reclusive Jamie Sullivan, a Baptist's daughter who carries a bible with her school books, cares for her widowed father and volunteers at the orphanage. But fate will intervene.

Forced to partner up at the school dance, Landon and Jamie embark on a journey of earth-shattering love and agonising loss far beyond their years. In the months that follow, Landon discovers the true depths of the human heart, and takes a decision that is so stunning it will lead him irrevocably down the road to manhood . . .

Early days, but so far so good! I am really enjoying it.

I am looking forward to ...
The Dishwasher Engineer coming today and hopefully getting our dishwasher sorted and running!  I think I must do dishes about 10 times a day. (Because I don't like seeing ANYTHING sitting in the sink!)

Dreaming about ...

Not sure what this is, but I like it.  Is it a coat?  A poncho?  A blouse?

Delicate rings  . . .

I think she forgot her trousers, but I am loving the boots . . .

This top, but with sleeves please  . . .

What would Todd think if I came downstairs like this?

Something to Watch . . .

Nights in Rodanthe with Richard Gere and Diane Lane. It is nice, nice, nice and a bit sad too. We watched on Amazon Prime.

A Quote for the Day ...

Love  . . .

Corners of my kingdom ...

A quaint cottage on the Isle of Man. I could live there quite happily.  My ex sil had a nanny once from the Isle of Man. Her parents came over to visit her and I got to meet them. Was a long time ago now . . .

And that's my daybook for this week!

BOOK OF MORMON CORNER - Today's Reading - Mosiah 1:15-2:8
Question - What have you learnt from the reading today? How did the people prepare to hear the words of King Benjamin?

My Thoughts - What stood out to me was the people 'took of the firstlings of their flocks, that they might offer sacrifice and burnt offerings according to the law of Moses'. The law of sacrifice. This is how they prepared to hear the words of King Benjamin, this is how they prepared to be at the temple, and why they were able to receive his true teachings into their hearts. This is how I can prepare to receive the word of God and prepare to be in the temple too, by taking my own offering of a broken heart and contrite spirit.

I have read a great talk by Elder Ballard this morning called 'the law of sacrifice'. It's given me a lot to think about and learn from. Well worth reading! He says "The law of sacrifice provides an opportunity for us to prove to the Lord that we love Him more than any other thing." This made me think about how the people 'pitched their tents round about the temple, every man having his tent with the door thereof towards the temple'. Compare this to Lot who “pitched his tent toward Sodom” (Genesis 13:12). For me the message here is about loving and choosing God over the things of the world or over our natural man. I have this written in my scriptures next to verse 6 - "use prayer to help me pitch my tent towards the Lord daily". I love this. Prayer really does help me put the Lord first in my life and live better the law of sacrifce.

Tomorrow's Reading (Day 95) -  Mosiah 2:9-27
Question - What have you learnt from the reading today? What do you think King Benjamin means when he says we are 'unprofitable' and 'indebted'?

I hope you have a lovely day!  Don't forget!

  1. Hi, Marie--happy new week to you! I'm so with you on pondering the WHY's of the world. I don't often get answers to those pondering, and if I ponder too long I often feel sad, as there is so much sad in the world we live in now. But prayer and trust in God will help us through. ;) LOVE that healthier fry-up version for breakfast! And nice idea to have this as supper alternative. I must show this to TJ! We love a good fry up... We can't really get a ready-made afredo sauce here (and I don't think I'd want to, as they are usually odd-tasting, too many calories, etc.) so a recipe for alfredo lasagna would be super! ;) I can see it with lots of veggies--sort of like pasta primavera meets alfredo! THANK you for the veg & herb link--this will be great to try this growing season. I'm keen to try growing own celery as the stuff at the supermarkets here is often thing, limp stuff. :/ Hope all goes well with your dishwasher re-boot today! ;) Having a nice giggle over you coming down stairs looking like a magical queen and imagining Todd's gob-smacked expression... *tee-hee*... :)

  2. If I could Marie,I would give you all the snow! I am sick of shoveling it and my upper arm is still sore! Lol.

I would love to grow my own veggies and herbs.

Those twine angels I love with different colored ribbon. This will be fun for next year to do!

Oh that baby, is adorable! When my grands were little like that, I could cuddle them and kiss their little cheeks and they loved it. Esp the twin girls and their was no arguing how long you could hold them, bc their were two! I held both of them together alot, but was scared at first, afraid of dropping one when they were so tiny. Even though all of them are older, I still get kisses and hugs!

I love those rings and that comfy cable sweater with the over the knee boots! I love that top for the summer when it warms up.

I haven't seen that movie yet by Nicholas Sparks. I see there are other movies too, esp with Zach Efron I can't wait to see. Lol.

I haven't see that movie with Richard Gere. I don't no how bc I have at least 12 of his movies that I watch. Lol. I like Gerald Butler's movies too, but not the violent ones.

If you walked downstairs with a crown on like that, Todd would surely do a double take. Lol. That made me laugh out loud!

I feel asleep for a couple of hours and woke up to comment. Now I'm going back to sleep.xo

  3. Hi Marie, lovely day blog and it's snowing now!!!! It looks lovely coming down but doesn't look like it's going to stick.

The Nicholas Sparks book sounds good. I love nice stories. I'm currently reading A Week in Winter by Maeve Binchy. I love her books, they're all easy reading but with interesting characters. They're all set in Ireland and I love the descriptions she gives of the places. Rosamunde Pilcher does similar books but hers are usually set in Cornwall or Scotland. I can't read more than one book at a time like you can though!!

Hope Todd has recovered from his cold. Lots of love xxx

  6. Hi Marie~

How is Todd feeling? I hope he's doing better today.

I still get excited when I hear that we might get snow! There is just something about a snowy day that makes you want to hunker down with a good book and a cup of something hot...and turn up the heat. I hope you got a little snow!

The video of painting boys faces was interesting. I guess I've never thought of how different boys faces and girls faces can be...I would love to paint like that!

I think it's a poncho...and I love the boots too, they would have been really "fab" with my leather mini skirt... ;0) And the shirt, yes, sleeves are in order here. Bob would ask me why I had pins poking out of my head - ouch!

I will have to check out that movie. It's becoming more and more of a challenge to try to find something good to watch on Amazon or Netflix...this one looks good. I love Richard Greer and Diane Lane.

Those sheep and the little, Great Pyrenees are so cute! One time we were up in the hills and way off in the distance, I could see a little white spot in a pond. We drove to it, and it was a Great Pyrenees puppy that had apparently gotten left behind by the sheep herder. Well, I'm such a softy, I couldn't leave her behind! We bundled her up and took her home with us. Gave her a bath and watched her grow...and grow and grow! She got so big so quickly! Someone I knew at work raised them and offered to take her and give her a good home. I was sad to see her go, but knew I couldn't keep her. She was just such a pretty girl...we named her Grace. She was very happy in her new home!

The, Isle of Man has always sounded so romantic to me - it's just gorgeous!!

King Benjamin has always been one of my favorite prophets! When I was in Young Women, we had some really fun activities with tents facing toward the Lord. He was a remarkable prophet with such wonderful advise for our day...thank you for reminding me to read about him and his words!

    Hugs and Love,
    Barb

    1. Oh, it sounds like your YW group was a lot of fun Barb. I have always wished I had been brought up in the church and gotten to learn such truths when I was younger. My whole life would have been so different! But I have a pretty good life now, so can't complain. I love Elder Hollands talk which speaks about the Master of the Vineyard and how it matters not how late we come, but only that we do. I have not been to the Isle of Man yet, but it is on my bucket list for sure. If only we had the dosh to take little holidays. How grande that would be! Love you and hope you are feeling better! xoxo

  7. Always love your day book entries and I tell you that every time. Yup! It's true. Your photos of food and links are always awesome. I like the clothes with the exceptions you made. I'm sure Todd would love you coming down the stairs in that dress and especially the hair do. You are just so cute.
I am checking out the link on the 15 Vegetables and Herbs to grow. I would love to try them this year.
The baby coat was adorable. I loved the angel tree decorations.
I like that you are reading "A Walk To Remember" It is a movie that I enjoyed.
I do love King Benjamin's teaching so much. Thanks for sharing our thoughts today on Sacrifice and for giving the link for Elder Ballard's talk.
Blessings, love and hugs for the two of you!
