"The world is fairly studded and strewn with pennies cast broadside from a generous hand. But who gets excited by a mere penny? It is dire poverty indeed when a man is so malnourished and fatigued that he won't stoop to pick up a penny. But if you cultivate a healthy poverty and simplicity, so that finding a penny will literally make your day, then, since the world is in fact planted with pennies, you have with your poverty bought a lifetime of days. It is that simple. What you see is what you get." ~Anne Dillard
A few of the small and wonderful things which bring untold joy into my life. It's the small things in life which truly mean the most. Simple abundance . . . it's the best.
Had a beautiful weekend weatherwise. Things are poking up through the ground. Small hints of the days ahead. It is actually 13*C/56*F which is quite mild. But there is a heavy rain warning in effect for the day. It is expected to get much cooler tomorrow. That's March for you. Very unpredictable weatherwise but you can definitely see signs of Spring!
I understand many in the US have been hit with some very severe weather, tornados etc. My heart and prayers are with them.
Last night was the Worldwide Relief Society Devotional for my church. Relief Society is the name given to our women's organization, which is the world's longest running women's organization. You can watch it here. It is roughly half an hour long. I started to watch it in bed last night but decided to save it until tonight as I was far too tired to really give it my full attention. I have served in the RS Presidency several times during my time in the church, and I can say that those callings were some of my favorite callings to have. As a leadership we truly cared for all of the sweet women and young women under our remit of responsibility. It was a privilege to serve them.

I was able to go to church yesterday and partake of the sacrament and fellowship with the Saints. The talks were all very good as was the lesson in Sunday School. My good friend Jacqueline was not there. She had a series of small strokes on Saturday and was rushed to hospital. Yesterday she was transferred to the QE hospital in Halifax and will undergo an operation today to remove a blood clot from her right carotid artery. Please keep her in your prayers. Thank you so much. She has no family here. Her son lives in Ontario and her daughter in BC. I do not know if they will be travelling down for this or not. I would hope that they will.

Aside from all of the doom and gloom we hear about in the world today I am glad that we live in a world where someone cares enough about their chickens to knit them sweaters. This made me smile, and are we not all in need of a smile these days!

Although I am not a fan of the time change, I am loving the newer, brighter days we are enjoying. I am still not waking up when I am supposed to and struggling to fall asleep when I am supposed to, but eventually, hopefully things will settle back into normal.

Happy Saint Patrick's Day to all. I loved this day when I was a child, the wearing of something green, remembering our Irish roots, etc. But today I have another reason yet to celebrate today as it is our good friend Elaine's Birthday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY ELAINE! I hope her day is filled with lots of love and good things. BE BLESSED.
I am so grateful for my sweet friends both online and off.
My brother came to my rescue again at the weekend. I always hate to bother him with computer stuff. He worked in IT for all of his adult life, and I know it is not his favorite thing to do in his off time. Google came up with a new update that would impact sites without a "Jump to" button and of course I have never been able to get a "jump to" button. I was fretting a bit about this as Blogger is not friendly to such things and has no easy fix for it. I was able to get a code for one and my brother was able to insert it into my blog's html where it needed to be and so I now have a "jump to" button. I still hope that people will take some time to read the work that I have done on my page and the stories I share, but it is what it is. I am so grateful for a brother who is willing to help me when he can.
I really need to update the site and give it a refresh, but it all costs money, which at the moment I don't have, but hopefully soon. I am afraid also that I will get a cowboy instead of a reputable designer. That makes me nervous about changing anything, but I am willing to pay someone who is reputable good money to update everything and make the page more user friendly. One needs to keep up with the times.

I have much in my life to be thankful for. I have been blessed with a multitude of tender mercies through the years. God has surrounded me with good people and people who care about me. I am so thankful for my family and my home, my faith, my friends both near and far, my little job. My health. Oh, yes, my life is far from perfect, but it is perfect for me. I have all that I need, and I am grateful for the wisdom to know the difference between needs and wants. We will always have "wants", but needs . . . to have them met the way mine have been and are met, that has taken miracles, and I am ever cognizant of them.
As far as "wants" go, everyone has to have a dream, and I do have mine. But life is very good without them, and my cup is full.

In The English Kitchen today . . . Reuben Casserole. A tasty casserole to make with some of your leftover corned beef. This was very simple to make and quite delicious!
A very happy day to you all. May your day be richly embroidered with all of the things which matter most. Whatever you get up to, don't forget!

I noticed the Jump to Recipe button right away. Tell your brother I much appreciated it!! I know how he feels - I'm not working IT, but I frequently have people coming to ask me to type things outside of work and it's not my favorite thing at all. Here in Oklahoma we had fires and so much smoke. The fires were caused mainly by electric lines being blown down and sparking and catching the grass on fire. We had very high winds on Friday. Much love - Raquel
ReplyDeleteI have my qualms about the Jump To button Raquel, especially where my living is dependent on people reading my whole page, not just jumping to the recipe, but Google also affects my living so I need to please them as well. I just hope it doesn't cost me my livelihood. Love to you also. xoxo
DeleteNice that brother could come to your rescue with that code. I always experimented with my site, had fun doing it, and if it didn't work could switch back. But it is a challenge. It poured of rain all day yesterday and the snow is quite patchy now in the sheltered spots. So many Canada Geese flying around enjoying all the puddles in the fields. Happy birthday to Elaine. I like the lighter evenings too, but it is still dark when I get up. That will change soon. Have a good day.
ReplyDeleteI am up very early this morning Linda and it is raining here. Thanks so much for your faithfulness in reading and commenting. I really appreciate it! xoxo
DeleteNice feature! With all the recipes you share it is a must! The hurricanes..tornadoes and floodings:(. My..a lot of angst..
ReplyDeleteYou're not happy with the look of your blog? Gosh. I guess I should revamp mine I only ever changed the header once..and sometimes sidebar pics..It's just become less important now..:(Those comments were an eye opener..This comment moderation is the bomb:)
It is not that I am not happy with it Monique, I really am, but I think it could just be a few things that need doing to make it more seo and user friendly, but other than that I want it to stay just as it is! Comment moderation in this day and age of trolls is a must! xoxo
