The Simple Woman's Daybook

FOR TODAY, July 3, 2018

Outside my window...
The sun is shining.  The birds are singing. I can also hear crows and seagulls and the odd car driving past.  Its another beautiful day!

I am thinking ...
Just stuff. Had a lovely day yesterday with all the Missionaries. Good times. Good food.  Great company.  It was soooo hot out there, but everyone was loving it!

In the kitchen ...

Sweet Pea & Avocado Vichyssoise.  A fabulous cold soup that is so simple to make. Quick and easy too.  The hardest part is leaving it in the refrigerator for two hours while it chills.  And you don't need to heat up your kitchen to do it either!  Yay! This is one of the most delicious soups I have ever eaten!

On my "To Cook" list ...
Why not? It sounds delicious. Now to find some grape jelly and some velveeta. None of which are available here. I can dream, however . . .

Good to know ...

I am creating ...
Crochet Mobile Phone Holder, from Crochet Arcade, and there is also a video tutorial.

Don't forget Doorknob organizer. Annie's e-patterns Central. Not free but also not expensive.

I love this shawl a free pattern on the Half-Assed Knit Blog.  (Their title not mine!)

Knitted Strawberry Tea Cosy. Katya Frankel on Ravelry.  Free pattern download.

No pattern, just something I would like to do.  Hand embroidered handkerchiefs.

Oh my goodness  ...

These yoghurts from Aldi are fantastic.  Enjoying a Lemon Curd one this morning for breakfast. A bit naughty, but a whole lotta nice!

I am reading ...

Be Still my Soul, the cadence of grace book 1, by Joanne Bischof

Night’s chill tickled her skin. Lonnie pressed her hands together and glanced up. He was even more handsome up close. Having grown up the shy, awkward daughter of Joel Sawyer, she’d hardly spoken to any boy, let alone the one who had mothers whispering warnings in their daughter’s ears and fathers loading shotguns.

Pretty Lonnie Sawyer is shy and innocent, used to fading into the background within her family, and among the creeks and hollows of the Appalachian hills. Though her family is poor and her father abusive, she clings to a quiet faith. But when handsome ladies’ man and bluegrass musician Gideon O’Riley steals a kiss, that one action seals her fate. Her father forces her into a hasty marriage with Gideon—a man she barely knows and does not love. Equally frustrated and confused by his new responsibilities, Gideon yearns for a fresh start, forcing Lonnie on an arduous journey away from her home in Rocky Knob. Her distant groom can’t seem to surrender his rage at the injustice of the forced matrimony or give Lonnie any claim in his life. What will it take for Gideon to give up his past, embrace Lonnie’s God, and discover a hope that can heal their two fractured hearts? Gideon only ever cared about himself. Now that Lonnie is his wife, will he ever be worthy of her heart?

A sweet and easy read.

I am looking forward to ...
Two more weeks of this beautiful weather!  Yay!  So far this has been the nicest summer we have had since I moved over here to the UK!

Dreaming about ...

Hand embroidered napkins  . . .  so pretty . . .

Fluffy embossed towels  . . .  luxurious  . . .

A pretty guest room  . . .  I wish  . . .

China cups with Holly Hocks  . . .

Breakfast with Greengate  . . . in my dreams  . . .

Something to watch ...
Lucky Man on Now TV.   Its from Stan Lee.  We have watched one episode and are hooked.
A goal for the week ...
To get rid of at least 10 more books.  Wish you all lived closer. Instead the charity shop will get them.

Makes me smile ...

Elder Boyer doing his thing yesterday at the BBQ.

Elder Anderson soaking up some rays. He was trying to get his underarms to tan as much as his upper arms are.

Elder Anderson (Alaska), Elder Quinton (Alberta), Elder Bishop (Utah), and Elder Cepeda (Ireland)  all enjoying the sunshine.  Oh, and I see Mitzie in there as well!

Todd getting some grilling tips from Elder Boyer  . . .

Sister Boyer sharing some insights with Elder Cepeda!  And Todd supervising again.  Oh, I found actual Root Beer, so we all enjoyed that also!  It was soooooo hot out there!  We were all sweating buckets, but we had a great time!

Corners of my kingdom ...

Bibury England, in the Cotswolds.  Known to be the prettiest village in the UK. Known for both its honey coloured stone cottages with steeply pitched rooves, as well as for being the filming location for movies such as "Brigit Jone's Diary."

And that's my daybook for this week!

  4. So love your daybook entries. This was a wonderful read. I always enjoy your crochet and knitting items. I really liked the knitted scarf, the embroidered handerchiefs and towels. I wish that these bmbroidered items were popular as in my day. I love love the dishes; they are always favorite photos. I of course, also like the decor ideas you post. One day I will take some photos of some of my priceless dishes, tea cups and dolls.
The book looks like a great read. I have a novel I have been trying to get through but can’t find the time. At least I have one I am working on. It’s a good one too.
I liked all the photos of your barbeque with the missionaries; it looks so fun. Those Elders are such a blast. I miss our mission in many ways.
I would love to visit the corners of your kingdom someday.
Sending loving thoughts, prayers, and hugs your way!

    1. Oh, how very much I would love to see your pretties LeAnn! I really miss being on a mission also. I loved the gospel focus it really gave to our lives. They were so centred on the Gospel it was quite wonderful. I know we could still do the same, but somehow it seems different when you are not wearing that same mantle of responsability. Love you and sending hugs and prayers your way also! xoxo
