The Simple Woman's Daybook . . .

FOR TODAY, December 5th, 2017

Outside my window ...
It is cold and dark.  Just what you would expect for December.

I am thinking ...
The squeaky wheel gets the grease.  Several people had contacted me with issues they were having with the Kindle version of the book. I know I am not reponsible for the formatting of it, but I felt like they deserved more than what they were getting.  So I got one of them to do some screen shots for me, and I sent them to my editor plus I copied and pasted their issues to him.  I have had an e-mail from him this morning saying they are pulling the Kindle version until they can address these issues and fix them and that anyone who has complained to me, once it is sorted, if I give him their details, they will send them a new free version of the book.  I am very pleased about that!
In the Kitchen ...

Stone Soup.  A delicious soup made from next to nothing.  Its really a very tasty Tomato, Rice and Cabbage Soup, but shhh . . .  don't tell anyone.  Stone Soup sounds a whole lot more interesting!

On my "To Cook" list ...

This Dublin Coddle from Wholefully looks really tasty.  With sausage, potatoes, onions, bacon and Guiness, it looks a real man-pleaser! A Crusty loaf on the side and maybe a salad, and what a lovely meal it would be!

Good to know ...

I am creating ...

Katia North Handbags.  Pattern from Tex Yarns.  Not free, but not expensive either. I really like this.

I love this simpe garter stitch sweater from Dany Edan on Ravelry. A free pdf download.

Entertainment Daily.  Last minute crochet Christmas Trees.  Simple and there is a video Monique!

Crochet Flower Valance.  Another free pattern from The Whoot, and there is also a video for this as well! There are also a lot of other crochet flower medallions for many uses.

Sweet Cream Infinity Scarf. From Cute and Cosy Crochet.  Free pattern.

The Fabric Mutt.  Constance Organizer Tutorial.

I am reading ...

MARCH, by Geraldine Brooks

Winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction and Richard and Judy pick.
From the author of the acclaimed ‘Year of Wonders’ and ‘People of the Book’, a historical novel and love story set during a time of catastrophe on the front lines of the American Civil War.

Set during the American Civil War, ‘March’ tells the story of John March, known to us as the father away from his family of girls in ‘Little Women’, Louisa May Alcott’s classic American novel. In Brooks’s telling, March emerges as an abolitionist and idealistic chaplain on the front lines of a war that tests his faith in himself and in the Union cause when he learns that his side, too, is capable of barbarism and racism. As he recovers from a near-fatal illness in a Washington hospital, he must reassemble the shards of his shattered mind and body, and find a way to reconnect with a wife and daughters who have no idea of the ordeals he has been through.

As Alcott drew on her real-life sisters in shaping the characters of her little women, so Brooks turned to the journals and letters of Bronson Alcott, Louisa May’s father, an idealistic educator, animal rights exponent and abolitionist who was a friend and confidante of Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry David Thoreau. The story spans the vibrant intellectual world of Concord and the sensuous antebellum South, through to the first year of the Civil War as the North reels under a series of unexpected defeats.

Like her bestselling ‘Year of Wonders’, ‘March’ follows an unconventional love story. It explores the passions between a man and a woman, the tenderness of parent and child, and the life-changing power of an ardently held belief.

BOOK OF MORMON CORNER - Today's Reading -2 Nephi 8:1-25
Question - What have you learnt from the reading today? Why do you think so many people put their trust in the things of men instead of trying to get close to the Lord?
My Thoughts - I love these phrases - my righteousness is near, lift up your eyes to the heavens, my salvation shall be forever, everlasting joy and holiness shall be upon their heads, I am He that comforters you, I have covered thee in the shadow of my hand, thou art my people, thy God pleadeth the cause of His people. And my favourite one for today, "the people in whose heart I have written my law". I know the Lord gives us opportunities every day to write his law in our hearts. The choices I make show the Lord where my heart lies and in whom I trust.
In the last days, the Lord will fight the battles of those who belong to Zion. Zion is the pure in heart. If I want to be part of that, I can not trust in the arm of flesh. Not my own, or anyone else's. I can only rely on the Lord to guide and protect. "The isles shall wait upon me, and on mine arm shall they trust." I want to be numbered among these . . . "the redeemed of the Lord shall return, and come with singing unto Zion; and everlasting joy and holiness shall be upon their heads; and they shall obtain gladness and joy;" joy, gladness, holiness, redeemed. Am I doing all I can now??? Am I becoming "pure in heart"??? Forsaking ALL that is ungodly???
If I am not, I should be and need to make the changes necessary.
Tomorrow's Reading (Day 47) -  2 Nephi 9:1-14
Question - What have you learnt from the reading today? What is your favourite title for Jesus Christ and why?
Have a beautiful Tuesday.  Don't forget along the way of your day!

And I do too!

  1. Hi, Marie! Nice that the Kindle version of your book will get sorted soon. As I was considering ordering the Kindle version myself. I'll wait for an all clear? ;) E-versions of books aren't the same... but it's a good alternative sometimes. Lovely that garter stitch cardi! And so cute those crocheted trees... That organzier is a good idea. I'd make mine with a pocket for my tablet too, maybe, as I use my table a lot for lists, etc. But I like the idea of place to neatly keep all the stuff for a week in one place. VERY fun "dream" pictures... love that minimal cost kitchen! And nice to see your son Bruce and his Sara! :) Happy week, my friend... LOVE YOU LOTS!! ((LOVE & BIG HUGS))

  2. I have had updates come through for some of the books I've read on my kindle. They let you download free of cost. Hope it works for your book. When it comes to cook books though I think I'd prefer the book version. Hope you have a terrific Tuesday!

  3. Love you lots too Tracy! I’d wait on the kindle version until the bugs are sorted! I will let you know! Love to TJ and Luna! Xoxo

I’m with you Pam! I prefer the real book when it comes to cooking! Happy Tuesday! Xoxo

  4. Hi Marie~

What a fun filled post! I love all the crochet and knit finds, it's times like this that I wish I knew how to knit! Although the Christmas trees are so cute, and would be pretty simple to make in a short time. I also loved the curtains, the colors remind me of the 70's, all the orange and green, love them.

Oh, Marie, wouldn't it be fun to go to Paris and stay in an apartment like that?! That kitchen is amazing, all the light, and that big farmhouse sink, oh my...I'll keep dreaming. I have an old dresser kind of like the one in the bathroom, but I don't think I could ever make a vanity out of it. But, I would love to find one that I could, I love that look.

What a beautiful family photo!! Again, you have a beautiful family, Marie!

I don't like to go to the mall unless it's absolutely necessary - but this mall, I would love to go just so I could say I did, it's very gorgeous!

I think people get so used to depending on government and other facilitators for everything they have, and have no idea about faith, or prayer. It's so important for us to trust in, God for ALL things, not just when we need extra help. A few years ago, I gave my daughters a sign to put in their homes that says, "Write my name upon your Heart". I hope they remember to trust in God and remember Him in all things when they read those words, He is waiting for us to ask for His help.

    Hugs and Love,

  5. I love all the crochet things Marie! The tile in that bathroom absolutely love it! Hopefully they get the Kindle version up and running soon! Nice picture of your son and wife.
    Big hugs!xo

  6. I keep saying I am going to go to Paris for a weekend Barb, but I never get there! Maybe in 2018! We shall see! That mall is amazing. Believe it or not they even have a ski-hill in it. The food court is like being on an ocean liner! It's out of this world!I love what you gave your daughters. I will have to look for one of those for our home. I also want one which says, Holiness to the Lord. I may make one myself. Love and hugs. xoxo

Thanks Jan! I hope they do too! Still waiting on it! Love and hugs. xoxo

Your comments mean the world to me, and while I may not be able to address each one individually, each one is important to me and each one counts. Thanks so much!
