A Day Book . . .

FOR TODAY, December 3rd, 2024

OUTSIDE MY WINDOW ...

This is what it looked like when I got up this morning. It's a beautiful winter wonderland.

I love the way the trees look against the black night sky. Of course, that was about an hour ago and it is starting to get light out now. But it does look like we got a bit more snow in the night. When I went to bed last night the roads were clear.

I AM THINKING ...

December couldn't have started off any better. The grey and dismal of November isn't gone, the skies are still lead and pewter, but that rain has switched to goose down. I can live with that.  At least for December. I know we will be more than tired of it come January/February.

I AM ALSO THINKING ...

We had a heck of a time getting the cats into the carriers yesterday to take them to the Vets. But this was Cinnamon last night.  And Nutmeg, who we really had a hard time getting into his carrier  . . .

Last night  . . .  Cats are wierd creatures. You should have heard them in the car on the way up to the Vets.  We recorded it to share with my brother.  I have never heard Cinnamon that loud.  The pair of them were playing off each other. It did make Cindy and I laugh a tiny bit. Poor things.  End result however, they are very healthy cats.  They just need to lose a bit of weight, but I am on top of that and working on it, so it's okay.  Next appointment is Jan 2nd for their second booster. Then they are done.

Of course, we treated ourselves to a Big Mary Sandwich from Mary Browns afterwards. Big Mary Monday's when you get one for half price. It almost made up for that terrible one we had gotten at KFC  a few weeks back.  Okay, it more than made up for it. I love the Big Mary.

Ina Garten's Smashed Eggs

IN THE KITCHEN ...

Ina Garten's Smashed Eggs on Toast.  From her Modern Comfort Food book. I had to try it.  They were delicious.  I'd expect nothing less.

ON MY "TO COOK" LIST ...

Mission Food Adventure.  Pain d’épices or spice bread  I cannot resist what looks like a good gingerbread.

LOOKING FORWARD TO ...

On Thursday, weather permitting, Cindy and I are heading up to Cambridge to pick up a Costco order. We are ordering the Organic sugar which we like and I am ordering flaked almonds. We have not been totally impressed with the Running Man in New Minas the last few times we were there, and they have had neither of those two things the last few times we have gone in.

I love spending time with my sister. We always have a laugh or two or three.

SOMETHING NICE ...

I love the coziness of this photograph with the advent candles on the table and the candles in the window, etc. Everything just looks so warm and welcoming.  I love the star as well.

SOMETHING ELSE THAT'S NICE ...

Stunning really. What a beautiful animal. So majestic.

THINGS I KNOW TO BE TRUE ...

I am the sum of all of my pieces. I like me.  The most growth has come from dipping into my deepest valleys and experiencing the heartbreaking cracks.

I AM CREATING ...

Yesterday I added paper snowflakes  . . . I had fun creating them.

Clothespin dolls  . . .

Paper houses  . . .

paper moths  . . .

More paper  moths  . . .

OH MY GOODNESS ...

A real-life gingerbread cottage.

HOW I WISH ...

That I had been able to find someone to grow old with.

I AM READING ...

The Little Christmas Shop on Nutcracker Lane, by Jaimie Admans
It’s the most magical time of year, and anything can happen…

Nia Maddison has always believed that wishes come true on Nutcracker Lane. So, when she gets the opportunity to run her own Christmas gift shop on the most magical street in town, it feels like her wishes have been finally granted. But working late one night, Nia discovers yet another boyfriend has cheated on her.

As she trudges home – alone, again – she passes the (supposedly) magical nutcracker and half-joking thinks a wish can’t hurt. Cracking a nut in its mouth, she wishes to find Prince Charming.

The next day Nia gets to work to find another decoration shop has opened directly across the lane from her own, and she can’t resist having a nose around.

Whilst there, she accidentally backs into a human-sized Nutcracker, knocking it over and breaking it. Mortified, she flees from the store but when she gathers her resolve to go back and apologize, she stumbles across the gorgeous shop owner James, who looks exactly like Prince Charming…

Could her Christmas wish from the night before really be coming true?

A bit of festive frivolity.

THINGS I LOVE ...

Kitchen windows  . . .

Good cheese  . . .

Red berries  . . .

SOMETHING TO WATCH ...

  1. Those smashed eggs on toast look so good, my kind of food. Looks like you beat us to the snow, it is heading out way overnight and all day tomorrow. We are also under snow squall warning. Hope you are able to get out for your outing with Cindy on Thursday. Nice the cats are healthy. Enjoy today.

    1. They were really good Linda and a very simple make. The perfect dinner for a day when you don't want to invest a lot of time and ingredients but still want to eat something delicious. I hope you are having a good day. Stay safe and stay warm! xoxo
