A Season for Everything . . .

"To everything there is a season, and a time to every season under the heaven;
A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep,
and a time to cast away.
A time to rend, and a time to sew, a time to keep
silence, and a time to speak." Ecclesiastes 3:1

I read a story the other morning about a fisherman. He wasn't just any old fisherman however. This one liked to play the flute. One day he set off for the seashore with his fishing nets and sat down on the rocky ledge by the water. Once there, he took out his flute and began to play. He thought that the fish would be so attracted by the beautiful sound of his music that they would automatically just swim into his nets.

He ended up very disappointed however, for . . . although his music was indeed very beautiful, he caught not a single fish. He gave up, and in utter frustration and disgust put aside his flute, and then cast his net into the deep water. His reward . . . a splendid catch.

There is a right time and a right place for everything, and there is wisdom to be had in knowing this and putting it into practice. You cannot catch a fish with a flute, and playing the flute will get you nowhere if you are supposed to be fishing . . . even if it does sound melodic and beautiful.

I switched out the pin cushion on top of my jam jar sewing kit yesterday with another colour combination for the cover. I think I like this colour better. I think the white was far too stark.

We went on our monthly trip to Costco yesterday.  We decided to go once a month and just get the things we normally get like diet coke, dentastix and Quaker Oats, oh and fill the car up with Petrol.  I also picked up one of their rotisserie chickens (because who can resist, the price is so good), and a jar of Skippy peanut butter.  Oh, but it is a treasure trove of tempting delights. A veritable Aladdin's Cave of things a person would love to have.  Huge glossy televisions and gizmos, pots and pans, etc. etc.  They had huge glamorous looking BBQ's in there yesterday. Kind of like the Cadillac's of BBQ's, for the person who has everything and money to burn. (like the pun!)  In all seriousness however, a person could spend a bomb in there, and I always always come out with more than I went in for. Always.

But it is the same when I go grocery shopping!

I often always come out with more than I went in for. I seem to find it impossible to just stick to my list, no matter how much or how little is on it. I will see something which is a good deal and I just have to get it, or something which I had forgotten I needed, etc. Todd, now . . .  he can go in and come out with exactly what is on his list, even if it is (most of the time) the wrong thing entirely.

Let me give you an example. One time I sent him to the local shops for two packs of butter as I was baking. (Another bad habit of mine, I never buy one of anything.)

This is what I expected. Two packs of solid butter.
Right?

This is what he came home with . . .

Two containers of spreadable butter, which is
butter which has been blended with
cooking oil for easy
spreading.

Highly unsuitable for what I wanted it for. His argument. It said butter on the container.  Fair enough. The word butter was on the packaging.  He is so not a grocery shopping kind of guy.  He lived on frozen burgers, tinned curry and sausage rolls before we got married.  He loves my cooking.   He's very easy to please.  Unless it is pizza  or pasta.  In fact the main reason he doesn't want to visit Italy is because he doesn't like Italian food he says, but its not all pizza and pasta I say.  He's not sure its worth the risk.

Ohh  . . .  mama . . . mia . . . what's a gal to do?

And with that I better leave you with a thought for the day.

BOOK OF MORMON CORNER
Today's Reading - Mosiah 8:1-21
Question - What have you learnt from the reading today? What can we learn from how Ammon teaches the people of Limhi?

Thoughts - There are loads of things I love about this chapter. King Limhi already has a testimony and is a seeker of truth, knowledge and understanding. He speaks such truths in verses 20-21. The Lord is marvellous, he is patient, he wants to keep us safe.

Ammon knows the words of King Benjamin well enough to rehearse the words to the people of Limhi but also to explain the teachings and help them to understand. He shares his testimony of King Mosiah as a prophet, seer and revelator, and brings the welcome news to Limhi that his records can be translated.

Am I a seeker of truth, knowledge, understanding? Do I study and share the words of prophets, seers and revelators? Do I share the testimony I have?

Tomorrow's Reading (Day 106) -  Mosiah 9:1-19
Question - What have you learnt from the reading today? How can this chapter of Zeniff's history relate to our lives?

  2. Hi Marie, how true, a time and a place for everything. Lovely story.

I think I hate Costco. We used to go about once a month cos I don't like tap water and there bottled water is amazingly cheap. However, my conscience got the better of me when it dawned on me how much plastic I was using. So i bought a water diffuser from Wilkos and that does the job. I don't even think Costco is that cheap, apart from the food. I do love their towels though and every time I go now I buy a new one and throw an old one out.

Crazy Todd, pizza and pasta are amazing!!! And not liking them is not an excuse for not going to Italy!!!!
Have a lovely day, lot's of love xxx

    1. I think the money it would cost to go to Italy is another issue Kate! I do love the meat at Costco, but it is such enormous packages. I try to buy one kind a month and divide it up and freeze. That seems to work for me. What a morning I have had. I was going great guns on my chores, when I noticed my kitchen was flooding. The pipe from my washing mashine had come out and all of the water was on the kitchen floor and soaking through the wall into the living room. I am so annoyed, but I now have a really clean floor. xoxo
