The Simple Woman's Daybook . . .

FOR TODAY, July 11, 2017

Outside my window  ...
Its raining, its pouring, the old man is snoring. (Literally, lol.  Yes Todd is still in bed and he will be for another two hours at least.)

I am thinking ...
I am at an age now where I've probably forgotten more than I'll ever remember. When did that happen?  Wasn't I just turning 30 yesterday??

In the kitchen ...

Cappuccino Crispie Bars. The grown-up ones.  Moreish.

On my "To-Cook" list ...

The View From Great Island.  Chocolate Walnut Shortbread Cookies. These look great! Slice and bake!

Good to know ...

I am creating ...
 Christmas in July
It will be here before you know it

Cherry Heart Blog.  Granny's Tree Skirt.  I love this.  A great way to use up leftover yarns also.

Snow flake garland.  From Keep on Keeping On.

Mini wreaths using pipe cleaners, cardboard, beads, etc. From Ruby Murray's Musings.

Love these little Snow Buddies felt ornaments. Countryside Patterns.  Not free, but not expensive either.

The Christmas Door Card.  From  The Paper Collage

I am reading ...

Bear Town, by Fredrik Backman
People say Beartown is finished. A tiny community nestled deep in the forest, it is slowly losing ground to the ever encroaching trees. But down by the lake stands an old ice rink, built generations ago by the working men who founded this town. And in that ice rink is the reason people in Beartown believe tomorrow will be better than today. Their junior ice hockey team is about to compete in the national semi-finals, and they actually have a shot at winning. All the hopes and dreams of this place now rest on the shoulders of a handful of teenage boys.

Being responsible for the hopes of an entire town is a heavy burden, and the semi-final match is the catalyst for a violent act that will leave a young girl traumatized and a town in turmoil. Accusations are made and, like ripples on a pond, they travel through all of Beartown, leaving no resident unaffected.

Beartown explores the hopes that bring a small community together, the secrets that tear it apart, and the courage it takes for an individual to go against the grain. In this story of a small forest town, Fredrik Backman has found the entire world.

Love this man's writing.

I am looking forward to ...
Seeing my book finished.  I wonder how much longer we will have to wait? It seems to be taking a lot longer than they had initially predicted!

Dreaming About ...

Bumble Bee hair pins  . . .

Pearls, gold and rhinestones  . . .

Pewter rings  . . .

So dainty  . . .

A touch of whimsey . . .

Something to watch ...

1980's Nostalgia with The Breakfast Club.  Todd moaned and groaned when I put it on, but then said, when it was finished, that it was actually quite good.  A classic.

A quote for the day ...

be perfectly themselves, and not to twist them to
fit our own image. Otherwise we love only
the reflection of ourselves that we see in them.

Bum chin for the win. They both have it.

Love my grandchildren, I do, I do and these are beautiful photos of these two.

One of my favourite things ...

As a child it was Enid Blyton all the way for me.  Love, LOVED her books.  They took me on great adventures.

Corners of my kingdom ...

A perfect reflection. Taken at Scotney Castle, Kent . . .  many moons ago now.

And that's my daybook for this week!

  1. Good morning Marie. I hope Todd awakes refreshed and has a great day. You too, of course!

How I love books and I loved Enid Blyton too. Then I loved school stories.I devoured those and kept them. When my ex finally handed back my books they were ruined. If he had known how much some of those paper backs would fetch he would have sold them. It is so much fun to go back and re read old friends.

I knew you loved bees. This morning you have surpassed yourself. Some of the jewellery is wonderful and so unusual.

God bless you today and always.

  5. Her books made me long to go to Boarding School Suzan! It sounded like so much fun with tuck boxes and all the midnight feasts they enjoyed! God bless you also! xoxo

I have only just started it Monique, so far not totally in love, but I am also reading another one of his books, "Britt-Marie was Here," and I am really enjoying that one alot. I find that if a book doesn't grab me in the first chapter or so, then I am never going to get into it! That makes me sad. There are so few truly compelling writers out there today! I wonder why that is. I envy you your beautiful gardens, etc. I would be out there with them and your "Girls" constantly! Love their fluffy little bums! So cute! xoxo

Oh Pam what fun! You are sure to have an amazing day! I hope that you do! xoxo

Thanks Di! My day has been pretty good so far. A dear friend dropped by for an hour or so with her husband and that has cheered me up to no end! xoxo

  6. What a great photo that was of Mum and her rather large ! Birthday cake, hope lots of friends came over to share. It was so nice of your Eileen to go visit. I think she is looking particularly good at the moment, I do wish she could have come over this year, a year away seems a long time I know.....However maybe by then your knee will be loads better, I'm glad you managed to get a wee walk down to the end of the garden. Are you going to make some jam with your tayberries ? It would taste delicious.......
Mary came home last night and has brought the rain with her, I can't complain though as we really need the rain so long as it remembers it's got to stop !!....that must have been lovely seeing the rainbow colours on Mitzie, pity you hadn't the camera on hand, that's always the way....hope you are having a nice day with only a little drop of rain...it's coming down in torrents at this moment xxx

  9. It was a rather large cake Sybil, but I think my sister was expecting all the cousins to come over. A few did, but not many. Oh well, she did get some cards though, so that was good. Pity Mary had to bring some rain back with her. She dropped quite a lot here in Chester, along the way! haha! It rained bucket loads yesterday! It was bouncing up off the pavement! Love and hugs. xoxo

    Good stuff Monique! xoxo

So happy you are enjoying Black House Noelle! The autopsy bit is somewhat gruesome I thought, but a cracking read! I will be making those cookies soonest! If you like them they have to be gorgeous! Love and a wonderful day right back! xoxo
