Sunday morning this and that . . .

Its a very snowy morning out there this morning.  Although you can only see the accumulation in this photograph, not the actual snow.  Its actually snowing quite heavily. I wonder if any of it will still be here for Christmas. We will see.

The kittens, of course,  are quite amazed and enthralled by it.  Anything that moves I guess.  They sure are great company for me.  Nutmeg has recovered very well from his operation.  The site looks clean and healthy with nothing sore looking so I am hoping when I take him back for them to look at it this Thursday they are pleased with his progress.   He is finished all of his painkillers now so onwards and upwards!

The church delivered a turkey dinner to all of its members here yesterday afternoon. I was quite surprised. (It was not the one in the above photograph. That's one I cooked us a while back.) Usually I am a bit squeamish when it comes to eating food that I am not sure of who prepared it, etc. outside of restaurant situations.  They must have caught me at a weak moment however as I did eat this and it was actually very good, and here I am the morning after, still living and breathing and well. haha  I don't know what I think will happen to me when I eat food prepared by strangers. I don't know why I am that way.

I am like that with Egg Salad also. I can only eat it if it has been prepped by my mom, or my sister, or myself. My sister is the same, but then again, eggs are a funny thing with me anyways. Sometimes I can eat them and sometimes they make me feel very squeamish.

Due to the rising numbers, especially in our immediate area, I have decided to forego church today. I will watch it here at home on my PC.  I have already watched the service in the UK.  I got up really early to watch it this morning. I guess I am just not willing to take a risk with the virus here at the moment. There are too many people I love to want to risk giving it to them.

I think there are far too many unknowns to this. I know of people who, even after having had the booster, still are catching it.  They are recovering from it as well, which is good, but am I willing to take the risk that I will be one of those who catches it and then doesn't recover?  I think not. I would rather not catch it at all, and so am being extremely careful at the moment, as we all should be.

Like so many of us, I am feeling very discouraged about the whole thing. Almost two years later and we are still in the grip of this thing with no end in sight.  I am beginning to think that this is life for us from now on. Sad thought that  . . .

I really don't think my son will be able to come over for Christmas.  And I am okay with that so long as everyone is safe. I would rather wait until a time when we can celebrate without having to worry about it.  Maybe things will be better come March break time.

This is little Joshie, ten years ago now.  He used to wear that "tiger skin" everywhere.  Good news re the tests he had done. There are no issues. He is normal and so hopefully he will grow some more soon, but basically he is just a tiny person.  I was a shortie, so was/is my daughter Eileen. Mom was not a big person and his other grandparents are both small people.   Happy and healthy is what counts most and he is both of those!

And there is not much more you can ask for than that. Healthy, happy, safe.  That is my wish for all of us.

A thought to carry with you  . . .

Not great photos but in The English Kitchen today, Sweetened Condensed Milk Snowballs. Very good.  Simple to make, only five ingredients.  Yummy!

Have a great Sunday. Whatever you get up to, don't forget!

  2. Such good news about Josh. Your snow looks pretty. Glad you didn't venture out to church this morning. We haven't been to church in two years and I do miss going. We'll be decirating the tree today. I don't think we've ever been thus late in putting it up but it will get done. Enjoy your Sunday. Love and hugs, Elaine

  3. We are staying home too, even with boosters people can still catch this virus but hopefully it won't be so bad. Facetime has become a regular thing here, great way to see family and stay in touch.

  4. Such good news about Josh! He is a beautiful person, be it small or tall.
Love looking out your windows at the snow and how sweet the kittens are as they enjoy looking out.

  5. That was very nice of your ward to bring you a turkey dinner. We go to church, but mask up and try to distance. Few others do. I'm with you, it is so disappointing that we are still dealing with Covid even after vaccines and boosters and everything else. Those cookies look really good. I have been looking for some simple cookies to make, so I may give your recipe a try. Thanks for sharing. See you again soon!

  6. We have no snow here and it is looking like a green Christmas here. No snow in sight. We did celebrate with my family for Christmas yesterday. It was a much smaller group than usual. Only 3 of my children and their families were able to gather together. Everyone else had some sickness of one kind or another so stayed home. Our new normal is not what we want, but we try to make the best of every day we get. Some days are better than others to be sure, but every day is a gift !

  7. Hi Marie...Oh, I love your picture of the snow at your home. Here in Illinois, we have sun, clouds, sun, clouds..temps 38-59 degrees..it just depends on the day. I really wish Mr. Winter would make up his mind and brings us some snow! (Can't help it..I love snow) So happy Nutmeg is recovered...I love cats! I enjoy being part of a Facebook group called "Cat Friends"...just lots of fun cat pics and videos. You might want to check it out. Wishing you and your family a safe and very "Merry Christmas"..God bless.
