OUTSIDE MY WINDOW ...
This was the scene yesterday as the Guinea Fowl went through. They make me smile. Silly birds. Right now it is 12*C/53*F. Partly cloudy. Another wildfire has broken out in the next county over and is out of control and is actively spreading. They have evacuated that area. The last I heard was late last evening. This has been a really horrible summer for this beautiful Valley I live in. The photograph that I shared of the deer walking across the river yesterday says it all. We still desperately need rain.
I AM THINKING ...
It is hard not to think about the events of the past weekend. The loss of our dear Prophet and that horribly tragic mass shooting event in Michigan. President Nelson will be really missed. He was such an inspiration to all of us. Our hearts go out to those affected in Michigan. These types of things defy all understanding. Incomprehensible evil.
I AM ALSO THINKING ...
My sister has cooked such interesting meals over the past few days. She always cooks interesting meals and posts photos of them on her FB page.
She is such a good cook. From left to right from the top. Beef Stir Fry. Cabbage, Potato & Sausage Skillet, Tortellini with Pearl Mozzarella and home Marinara, and Chicken Biryani with Parotta. The Biryani was pretty hot I guess. Dad ate it though. My father is really lucky to be able to enjoy meals like this. It's like eating in a Five Star restaurant every night!
IN THE KITCHEN ...
Inside Out Bacon Cheeseburgers. Delicious burgers that have the cheese inside. Simple and tasty.
ON MY "TO COOK" LIST ...
Victorian Stewed Potatoes. From 12 Tomatoes. I love potatoes and these look rather tasty. I am not sure if that is an AI photo or not. Usually if I see an AI photo I can tell and I am not interested. This one is hard to tell. Looking at the page however it looks pretty authentic.
THIS I BELIEVE ...
This is why I love Autumn so much. It is like a beautiful warm hug after the overkill of the summer heat. Not too hot. Not too cold. Loaded with warm colors.
SOMETHING THAT IS NICE ...
A smile. The warmth of a smile can warm even the darkest of days.
AN INTERRUPTION TO MY DAY
I just heard a lot of racket and went out to investigate. There are only three guinea fowl now and a lot of feathers along the side of the main road. The white one seems to be missing. I travelled up almost to the next street and down again, but could not see the bird. Just white feathers. I did see an exceptionally large toad in the grass. Brown and white. Poor thing, the bird. I am sure one of them finally has been hit by a car. Very sad. It really was only a matter of time.
CHASING AWAY THE BLUES ...
They have gone all silent now. The Guinea Hens. It's time to think of nicer things. There has been too much sadness this past weekend.
I AM WANTING TO CREATE ...
Little pumpkin heads . . .
Little Gingerbreads . . .
A little bear . . .
Kittens . . .
A Penguin in a stocking cap . . .
SOMETHING I ENJOY ...
Cheese and crackers. What's not to love?
SOMETHING ELSE I ENJOY ...
Warm socks in the cooler months.
OH MY GOODNESS ...
Cats and their boxes. Do you think they are related? Sure looks like it.
I AM READING ...
THE PLAIN TRUTH, by Jodi Picoult
The discovery of a dead infant in an Amish barn shakes Lancaster County to its core. But the police investigation leads to a more shocking disclosure: circumstantial evidence suggests that eighteen-year-old Katie Fisher, an unmarried Amish woman believed to be the newborn's mother, took the child's life.
When Ellie Hathaway, a disillusioned big-city attorney, comes to Paradise, Pennsylvania, to defend Katie, two cultures collide—and for the first time in her high-profile career, Ellie faces a system of justice very different from her own.
Delving deep inside the world of those who live "plain," Ellie must find a way to reach Katie on her terms. And as she unravels a tangled murder case, Ellie also looks deep within—to confront her own fears and desires when a man from her past reenters her life.
I have always loved Jodi Picoult's writing.
THINGS THAT CATCH MY FANCY ...
A mix of whites with pops of color . . .
An autumn mug . . .
Candlelit charm . . .
A barrel full of squash and pumpkins . . .
Hand knit sweaters. LOVE this yarn.
I AM GRATEFUL FOR ...
Getting to spend time with my daughter as I am at the moment. This was when she was about 3 years old. In our garden in Suffield, Alberta. She loved her dolls. Every year the girls each got a new doll for Christmas. Eileen always loved hers to pieces. They were always worn out by the end of the year.
MAKES ME SMILE ...
That picture of Eileen wheeling her baby around the yard.
SOMETHING TO WATCH ...
Last night Eileen and I watched this film on YouTube. She only likes certain kinds of movies and she loves Shirley Temple. I do like old movies myself!

And I do too!
Not like hearing about another fire, maybe the white guinea just took a different route and, maybe, perhaps, just maybe, beautiful Eileen needs to get another dollie for Christmas. So glad you two are having so much fun. Good day from down yonder!
ReplyDeleteIt has been a bad year for fires across the country, and in Ontario, like you we need rain. Hope that white guinea hen survived whatever it was. Two sisters - two good cooks! More Fall like temperatures today, still lovely and sunny. I've got some split pea soup cooking, smells really good. Have a good day.
ReplyDeleteWhat a delightful time for you and Eileen, you’re very fortunate to have each other and the time to be together. The little crochet critters are so darn cute. It’s always a pleasure to see your day book, thanks…happy day to you and yours, Virginia
