A few of the things which catch my eye, inspire me, pluck at my heart
strings, make me smile, or that I just enjoy. Maybe they will do the
same for you.
My mom's recipe for Baking Powder Biscuits. It is the absolute best. I've tried many others, but I always come back to this one. They are perfect.
Strawberry Shortcake. Whenever the fresh local berries are ripe, I get a hankering for Strawberry Shortcake, made the way my mom made it, pretty much, with tender flaky biscuits, fresh berries and some softly whipped cream. To. Die. For.
I am not really overly fond of hamburgers (tis a texture thing) but I do really love these ones. Onion Pan Burgers. I think it is the simplicity of the burger, that soft floury bun, the onions . . . I adore fried onions, don't you? That melty cheese . . .
Roast Chicken and Stuffing. This way of doing it is simply perfect. Tender succulent chicken with a crisp skin, flavourful moist lemon and herb stuffing, tender roasted potatoes. It is simply the best.
Yorkshire Puddings. Light and crisp with the perfect hole for holding in all that gravy. This is my ex-fil's recipe. He was an army cook and he knew how to do Yorkshire Puddings! These are wonderful.
Fudge Walnut Brownies. The photos are not so good because I shared this recipe in my very early food blogging days, and I didn't have a great camera and no skill, but this recipe for Brownies is the bomb. Its quite simply the best brownie you could ever want to bake or eat. No icing needed. They have the ultimate consistency you would ever want in a brownie.
Lemon Meringue Pie. This is the perfect recipe, yielding the perfect Lemon Meringue Pie, with a tart almost translucent filling and perfect meringue.
Old Fashioned Pull Aparts. The perfect dinner roll. soft and fluffy with a crisp crust and tender crumb. They remind me of my mom's.
Dad's Pot Roast. This is perfect, tender and moist with the most delicious gravy. It is perfection in a pot roast.
Raspberry Celebration Cake. This is the cake I bake every year for my birthday. It is the perfect cake. A light moist sponge, studded with fresh raspberries, filled with seedless raspberry jam and vanilla butter cream, drizzled with a light glaze icing and served with more fresh berries on the side. What more could you ask for in a cake!
Sour Cream Banana Loaf. Again not great pictures, but this is the best banana loaf you could ever want to bake and eat. Moist and delicious. The Mister at the Manor fell in love with it when I baked it for him and I had to bake it at least once a week after that. Its the perfect Banana loaf all round. There is none better.
World's Best Chocolate Chip Cookies. And I don't make that claim lightly. I have been baking these for years and years and years. I have tried other recipes, but this is the one I always come back to. The Mr at the Manor had to have a full tin of these in the larder at least once a week, and all of the staff would come into the kitchen to grab one when I baked them.
Cod Fish Cakes & homemade Tartar Sauce. This is a recipe I have been making for years, with tender cod cakes, flavoured with onion and fresh tarragon, no filler, lightly breaded with a crisp crumb and fried to perfection. The Horseradish Tartar sauce is also perfection.
The Ultimate Macaroni & Cheese. This recipe is the result of years of trial and error and testing. Its my favourite version.
Ham and Corn Scalloped Potatoes. Its what my mom made, and her mom before her, and so on. You can't get much better than this.
Sweet and Sour Chicken Balls. This is the BEST rcipe. Perfectly cooked, crisp chicken balls. Perfectly flavoured sweet and sour sauce. As good as the one you get in your local Chinese.
Beef & Broccoli. You can't have one without the other. Perfection.
Fish and Chips. Lets end on my favourite of all favourites. Sweet Cod, in a light and crisp beer batter and lovely crisp chips. You can't get much better than this. Its a family thing. You take any of us out for dinner and 99% of the time this is what we will order. Fish and chips.
And this is by no means all . . . the favourites of my favourite recipes, which is a really big list. Enjoy!
A thought to carry with you . . .
