My Favourite Things . . .

A few of the things in life that make my heart go pitty pat. Maybe they will do the same thing for yours. ♥♥♥

Getting to spend time with Grace.  Yesterday Ariana called.  Jose was at work and she was desperate to have a shower and she wanted to know if I could come over and watch Grace for her so she could have a shower and tidy up a bit. (Her brother and sister are coming  from Spain today for a visit.)  I said sure, be right over!  Todd also had to go because I don't drive here.  He didn't mind either.  Apparently she had been really fussy and Ariana hadn't been able to do anything.  We were just the ticket. Somebody she doesn't see overly often to distract her so mum could get a bit of a respite. In this photo, Todd was making his eyeglasses bob up and down on his face. She loved that. She thought he was quite, quite funny.  He loved it too.  I loved watching them.  We had a really nice time together and by the time mum came down stairs we (Grace) were asleep, giving mum a bit more time to get some more stuff done.  Time with Grace, a favourite thing. (So long as she is happy that is, lol)

Anything trimmed with daisies.  I love daisies.  When I was 14, I had a yellow mini dress with short sleeves and daisy trim across the bodice. I loved that dress!

Embroidered Bed Linens.  When I worked at the manor, my boss had beautifully embroidered bed linens.  Very expensive, 100% cotton and all the sheets had to be ironed. An 80 year old ironing lady used to come in once a week and spend all day ironing everything. I think embroidered bed linens are very pretty and I have embroidered quite a few of my pillow cases.

Scottie dogs . . .  real ones, buttons, shortbread biscuits . . .  I love them all.  But especially the shortbread biscuits because they are a double favourite thing.  My ex MIL had a Scottie dog for many years.  His name was Fergie.  He had been a gift to my FIL, but my FIL passed away only a few months after they got him, so he became my MIL's.  He was a lovely dog.

Christmas Snowmen! I love them. So cheerful and appealing with their scarves and top hats, eyes made out of coal and carrot noses.

Miniature worlds in boxes (Or suitcases) or doll houses.  I love little make believe worlds.

Buttons, buttons and more buttons.  Plain ones and fancy ones.  Buttons with all colours and no colours. Pearlised buttons. Gold buttons. Buttons that are flowers.  I just love buttons.

Pretty china cups and saucers.  I love them.  Especially the floral ones  . . .

Vintage Cards . . . especially cutsie ones like this.

Fabric  . . .  I could spend hours in fabric shops . . .

Herend China. This is the Rothschild Bird pattern.  My boss had everything in the set of this.  It was the one pattern we used for most of their formal dinner parties. (You don't want to know how much it was worth).  I liked this pattern and all of the pieces were so delicate and beautiful  . . .

But I love this one even more  . . .  Chinese Bouquet . . .

Hummels  . . .  I don't have any real ones, but I have postcards we picked up in Germany . . .

Speaking of which  . . .  Germany . . .  of all the places Todd and I have gone together, Germany is my most favourite place of all . . .

Its beautiful there and I love the food  . . .

Honey. Like my dad, I love honey.  I love Greek honey the most of all the honeys . . .  it has a faint licorace flavour to it  and I adore licorace.

Vintage Cookie Jars  . . .  anything bluebirds  . . .

And especially anything with pigs  . . .

And those are my favourite things for this week.  What are some of yours???

A thought to carry with you  . . .

  1. Hi Marie, lovely favourites but Grace definitely tops the list! So pleased you were both able to help out, she really looks as though she's enjoying herself!

I've got my film critic hat on now! Lady GaGa was really good and has an amazing voice but for me it wasn't really an enjoyable watch. I feel really uncomfortable watching people destroy themselves, I prefer my entertainment to be more light hearted. I can imagine the Indian programme you saw was totally heart breaking.

Have a lovely Thursday, lot's of love xxx

    1. I think I am going to wait for TV also Monique! The Cinema is far too expensive to wait on something that isn't worth it. I loved seeing Todd with Grace. He never got to see or spend time with any of his grandchildren, not ever. Heartbreaking xoxo

  3. I printed out the recipe for the squash. I have one last remaining butternut squash here so will be using your recipe today. I'm looking forward to decorating for Christmas but that's won't happen until after Thanksgiving. You are blessed to have that sweet little one to enjoy. I've always loved babies and they do bring us a lot of joy!

  4. I enjoyed all of your favorite things post today. That little Grace is a precious one. I love that you have moments with her and that you could help her Mom. Todd and you are the best.
I love those daisy trimmed dishware; so lovely. I love china and especially tea cups. I have two sets of china that I adore. One is my Moms and one is mine. I then have my mother and grandmother's tea cups collection which is awesome. Someday, I will try and share them.
I feel sad that we don't see more embroidered pillow cases. I remember doing them as a teenager. We used to iron all our pillowcases. I can't imagine ironing all the sheets too. Now, no one uses an iron.
I love snowmen and have a few snowmen decorations.
I love dolls; so I could covet even now that miniature doll houses.
I do love the Hummel Dolls but I don't have any either.
I have heard that Germany is a beautiful country. I doubt, I will have the blessings of ever going there. I do love looking of photos of Germany, England, Scotland and Ireland. I would love to travel there someday.
I love Vintage cookie Jars too; so cute!
    Loving thoughts, blessings and hugs!

    1. She lives just around the corner from us. Her family is in Spain. Mine is in Canada, so it works beautifully. She lived with us here in our home for a year when she first came to England! Ariana is really like a daughter to us. We love her! xoxo
