"The world is fairly studded and strewn with pennies cast broadside from a generous hand. But who gets excited by a mere penny? It is dire poverty indeed when a man is so malnourished and fatigued that he won't stoop to pick up a penny. But if you cultivate a healthy poverty and simplicity, so that finding a penny will literally make your day, then, since the world is in fact planted with pennies, you have with your poverty bought a lifetime of days. It is that simple. What you see is what you get." ~Anne Dillard
A few of the small and wonderful things which bring untold joy into my life. It's the small things in life which truly mean the most. Simple abundance . . . it's the best.
This was the view outside my front window late yesterday afternoon. So beautiful. It was snowing quite heavily at that point and continued like this for a while. It was so peaceful. I was just sitting indoors with the cats watching it fall, listening to some beautiful music. Such a lovely and calm way to spend a part of my day.

Because of the snow I was not able to get to my sister's for Sunday Dinner, but that was okay. I was safe and warm and at home. Having a place to shelter and a home in bad weather is a particular blessing that many do not experience. I will never take mine for granted. Never.

Remember the Sunbonnet Sue Needlebook Tutorial I created a few years ago? I had given that needlebook to my daughter-in-law Kayla a number of years back. I decided to make myself another one and started it yesterday. I have a great love for needlebooks. To be able to create is one of the greatest gifts from God.

On Saturday I tried taking two of my Metformin tablets in the morning and I was sick the whole day through. I was in bed by 8:15 on Saturday night. Yesterday I took only one and felt so much better. I know that it can take time to get used to changes in medication. But that is just horrible. I am not sure what to do. If my blood sugars are regulated with just taking one, I cannot see the need it taking more? What to do . . . what to do . . . My son Doug takes one which is a time release one. Maybe I should ask about that one? I am grateful that I live where I have access to free healthcare. Many do not. I have been blessed to have free healthcare all of my life.

The Danish art of Hygge. I practice it every Winter. It brings me joy.
Lighting, warmth, coziness. I am very contented.

Keeping the Sabbath Day. I try always to make my Sunday's a bit different than the rest of the week. Some people don't watch television at all. I don't have anyone here to talk to or interact with so I do watch television, but I try to only watch things on Sunday that are in keeping with the Sabbath. Music and the Spoken Word is a favorite program I like to watch. Old black and white films or television shows with values and charm. No violence. I like to read my scriptures or books/articles that are peaceable and calming as well. It is meant to be a day of rest and of worship. I keep it as such as much as possible. Normally I go to church. I did not go yesterday, but I did watch church online. How wonderful it is that in this day and age we have the technology and the ability to do this.

Taking the time to be present in your life, turns your life into a "present." Be aware. Be grateful. Be in the moment. Seek the joy that is in every day and that is only yours to find. Be thankful.

I have chosen to surround myself with peace and with peaceable things. Life is so much better without chaos. It does take an effort at times. Doubt does creep in. Thankfully I have the tools in place to chase that doubt away.

This has never been more important to do than it is now. We live in such a disruptive world, a world filled with chaos and turmoil. We do not have to invite it into our homes and lives. It is a choice we make. For a harmonious life this is essential. Just walk away from everything that doesn't bring peace into your life. It does make a difference.

Warm socks and slippers. Cozy toes. If my feet are warm, then the rest of me is warm.

A nice warm drink. It warms the hands and the heart. Make it a ritual. Turn it into something special. A treat. For the eyes and all your senses. You would do it for company. Why not do it for yourself.
I try to fill my life with things and people who bring me joy. Warm hearts. Family. Faith. Friendship. Home. Peace. Contentment. Having enough and knowing that it is enough is key. I want for nothing in my life. I have all that I need, right here, right now. I am content.
And with that I best leave you with a thought for the day . . .

In The English Kitchen today . . . Mary Berry's Easy Quiche. This really is easy. A soft flour tortilla is used as a crust rather than pastry. No fuss. No muss. Easy and delicious! Not too big, sized right for a smaller family.
I hope that you have a beautiful day and that your week is filled to overflowing with the things in life that truly matter most. Faith, Family, Friends. Good health. Peace. Comfort. Be blessed. Don't forget!

I love watching thee snow fall too.. She's so cute your Sunbonnet Sue..I have to stop with the news..It is encompassing too many of my thoughts:(
ReplyDeleteIf it destroys your peace Monique, it is best to let it go. I can't watch the news these days. I touch on the headlines briefly to be informed (reading) but then I go no further. That's what works for me. xoxo
DeleteI stopped reading the news, so depressing. I just live in my own world and what will happen will happen and there is nothing I can do about it. Medication is a real conundrum, fixes one thing but cause other problems. It is so hard to know what to take. We are expecting extreme winds today and it has already started. Lots to do here in my own little world. Have a good day.
ReplyDeleteYou are right about that Linda. What will be will be. Not a lot any of us can do to change it! No winds here today and a tiny bit warm, but it is going to snap cold again and snow the rest of the week. xoxo
DeleteWe used the time release metformin for a time...but at least after covid we could not take it anymore. Fortunately covid took some weight off us too, so it made insulin use managable. Hubby esp is having too high numbers of late though...so am trying some other natural things to see if that helps. A huge constant problem it has been. Wishing you all the best...hope you can find a way to have a life (being in bed ill is not a life!!)
ReplyDeleteElizabeth, xoxo
My son takes insulin now. Diabetes is one of those diseases that is so hard to control properly. I wish it was easier Elizabeth!! xoxo
DeleteWe are currently in a blizzard. Good day to stay inside, drink tea and read a good book. One thing COVID taught me was to be prepared, so I always have plenty of food and toilet paper on hand. Just for days I don’t want to venture out. Enjoy your day Marie. Good day to look up your UTube channel to watch your videos.
ReplyDeleteThere is naught like being home, cozy and warm with a good book and a hot drink when the weather is raging outside our door! You enjoy your day also Rosemary! xoxo
DeleteSuch a beautiful video of snow falling. It’s even more beautiful that it is your snow. I love the little Sunbonnet Sue needle case. So very sweet. Marie, I made your Blueberry Cobbler yesterday. It was delicious and so easy. I’ll be making it again for sure. Snuggle up with your hot water bottle, warm socks and Cinnamon and Nutmeg. Hope you can get your metformin dose straightened out. Love and hugs, Elaine.
