FOR TODAY, January 7th, 2025
OUTSIDE MY WINDOW ...
We've had some really snowy and cold days. Not out of the ordinary for January, truth be told. It had been expected to snow again today, but now it's not supposed to snow until tomorrow and the day after. Its garbage day today. -6*C/22*F and feels much colder than that. Snow and ice are on the ground.
I AM THINKING ...
I hope that I am a source of light for others. I see so much negativity in the world. What we need is a lot more light in this old world. If I can be light for someone else, then my life is not lived in vain. The funny thing about sharing your light with others is that it ends up being reflected back to you. That is never a bad thing.
I AM ALSO THINKING ...
I am so happy that I am not a person that makes New Years resolutions. I think I would have broken them all already! ha-ha I just live each day trying to be a better person than I was the day before.
IN THE KITCHEN ...
ON MY "TO COOK" LIST ...
AN ACHIEVEMENT ...
I organized my Keurig corner better. (I should have taken a before photo.) I don't drink regular teas or coffee, but I do enjoy a hot chocolate, and I like the hot apple spice tea from time to time. I also have a lemon and ginger herbal tea. I got a big jar to put my pods in, instead of having the boxes there. I thought I had some regular coffee pods for when anyone comes to visit, but I don't seem to have any. I will have to pick up a few the next time I go to the mall.
SOMETHING NICE ...
I love this thought. Yes, that is home. A little like heaven, where the weary are at rest.
SOMETHING ELSE THAT'S NICE ...
I have heard these called "I love you" stretches. I like that idea. If that's the case, then I get lots of those! Especially when I have been out and am returning home. I love you stretches. A good thing.
I KNOW THIS TO BE TRUE ...
"It is in the shelter of each other
that people live."
No man is an Island. We used to sing that song in Girl Guides, No Man is an Island. "No man is an island, no man stands alone. Each man's joy is joy to me. Each man's grief is my own. We need one another, so I will defend. Each man as my brother, each man as my friend." Oh, if only more people felt that way. Our world would be transformed. I do think that we have lots of caring people in the world, it is just that their voices are not as loud as the others.
I WOULD LIKE TO CREATE ...
Little wire dolls . . .
An envelope of tiny chickens . . . the only thing is they are knit on three needles. I have never been able to master that skill.
Felt bunnies with big hearts . . .
Putz houses from old greeting cards . . .
Paper tea cups . . .
OH MY GOODNESS ...
Sparrows in the snow. His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches over me . . .
HOW I WISH ...
I wish I had a long and elegant neck that would make wearing earrings like this a possibility. However, I do have a neck, so I must take my blessings where I find them. When I was taking my secretarial course after high school there was a girl in our class without a neck. When she wanted to look elsewhere she had to turn her whole body. A blessing is a blessing. I have a neck. It might be short and chubby, but it's mine.
I AM READING ...
SAINTS, THE STANDARD OF TRUTH
In 1820, a young farm boy in search of truth has a vision of God the Father and Jesus Christ. Three years later, an angel guides him to an ancient record buried in a hill near his home. With God’s help, he translates the record and organizes the Savior’s church in the latter days. Soon others join him, accepting the invitation to become Saints through the Atonement of Jesus Christ. But opposition and violence follow those who defy old traditions to embrace restored truths.
The women and men who join the church must choose whether or not they will stay true to their covenants, establish Zion, and proclaim the gospel to a troubled world. The Standard of Truth is the first book in Saints, a new, four-volume narrative history of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Fast-paced, meticulously researched, Saints recounts true stories of Latter-day Saints across the globe and answers the Lord’s call to write history “for the good of the church, and for the rising generations” (Doctrine and Covenants 69:8).
We are studying the Doctrine and Covenants in Sunday School this year. This is a worthy companion to that study along with the other two volumes which come after.
Thank you Elaine
I am also reading this. I am a child again. It's all coming back to me in the most wonderful way. I am on Chapter 10. The children are just about to go on their Night Adventure.
THINGS I LOVE ...
String music. Violin. Classical guitar. Harp. I love it all. So relaxing.
Tiny footprints in the snow . . .
Pizza . . .
The winter feeder . . .
Hot cocoa with marshmallows. Note to self: buy marshmallows.
I AM GRATEFUL FOR ...
Piano music. I could listen to it for hours.
SOMETHING TO WATCH ...
Anne of Green Gables. I watched the first one at the weekend. It had been a long time since I had watched it. I fell in love all over again.
