The Simple Woman's Daybook . . .

FOR TODAY, December 11th 2018

Outside my window ...
It is cold and dark, but dry. Its hard to believe that Christmas is just two weeks away from today. This year has flown by at the speed of light!

Thankful for ...
Todds operation went well yesterday.  Thank you for all your prayers!! He was booked in at 7:30, assessed and then had the op about 10:00 am. We were back home about 11:30.  He still has that ink arrow on his forehead. I am going to try to get it off today with some nail polish remover, of course taking care not to get any in his eye. There were six people in the queue for the operation. They waited until everyone had been assessed and then they did them like a conveyor belt. Most were on their own. Only Todd and one other man had someone with them. I don't know how they could cope without help. Todd couldn't see at all and was really grateful that I was there to help guide him out of the hospital to the cab we had waiting. He said he could never have done it on his own. Today he can take the patch off, clean his eye, put in drops and hopefully will see an improvement.  Fingers crossed!

I am thinking ...
How very grateful I am for the NHS. We like to complain about it, but had we lived in say America for instance, without health insurance this operation would have cost us a bomb. Here Todd had it for free and we were both given a hot drink and some biscuits afterwards!

In the kitchen ...

I am reading ...

Selected to Live, by Johanna Ruth Dobshiner

The dramatic story of a Jewish childhood ravaged by the Nazis. A young girl is the shocked witness to the destruction of her family and makes a thrilling and miraculous escape from the same fate. By the time she was barely a teenager, Johanna-Ruth Dobschiner was already an adept fugitive, one step ahead of her Nazi pursuers as she went underground, moving from one sympathetic Dutch family to another until the end of the war. On her travels she encounters a Christian community, and through them she discovers Jesus and realises that she has been selected to live in more ways than one...First published by Marshall Pickering in 1969.
You will probably have to pick up a second hand copy of this, but trust me when I say it is worth the hunt. Or you might find it in the library.  Excellent!

Looking Forward to ...
It is the Church Ward Christmas party on Saturday. A lot depends on how Todd is feeling. He might not want to go.

Corners of my kingdom ...

Bibury is a charming, typically Cotswold, village just a short drive from "The Capital of the Cotswolds", Cirencester. Bibury was once described by William Morris (1834-96) as "the most beautiful village in England".  The cottages of Arlington Row are often referred to as the most photographed and beautiful cottages in the country.

And that's my daybook for this week!

  2. I'm so thankful all went well for Todd. I'm sure he'll see a big improvement. One of my DIL's put tiny socks on her chairs to keep them from scraping the floor. They were made for just this purpose and look like socks. So cute and practical at the same time. Hope you have a terrific Tuesday! Here is very cold but the sun is supposed to peak through later on.

  4. Hi, Marie! Just love your weekly Daybooks. And so nice to start off the week with some good new--VERY glad all went so well for Todd...and that all will continue to go well! :) And nice with the tea & biscuits after! Back home in America the insurance situaation is a tragedy, it's sooo sad. Good health care should be a birth-given right. All the chicken looks good... I have a hard time digestion chicken these days though, not sure why, but it doesn't agree with me at all. :/ Wow--I've been cleaning my iron with vinegar for yonks, who knew! Those LEAF envelopes are ADORABLE--love that idea!! Those chair socks are another great idea--fun and colorful too. Love Swiss Dot fabric... That Christmas/winter sampler is sooo sweet! Love the image of the cozy nights in--that's us here too. ;) Hope you both have a lovely week there and happy times as Christmas draws near! LOVE YOU BOTH!! :))) ((LOVE & BIG HUGS))

    1. Love you my sweet friend! I must try to dash over to visit you and see how your month is coming along. Much love to you, TJ and Luna! ((((hugs)))) Back where my mom and sister live in Canada, they do have a socialised health care system but they can't get Doctors to move to where they live. Doctors are retiring and not being replaced. At the moment there are over 80,000 people without a Doctor. My mother's DR is retiring the 1st May. Its outrageous that nobody is doing anything about this! xoxo

  6. I’m sure I would love to see the cottages in the photo of the corner’s of your Kingdom.
I loved looking though all the different ideas and projects. I really liked the chair socketts; so cute!
The chicken looked delicious. The title does sound addictive.
Your novel looks like one to put on the wish list of novels to read. I’m still plugging away with the Fire and Steel series about Germany and the timeof Hitler. I wish I had time to sit down more often and read. It is a favorite thing to do .
Always enjoy our dreamin Items; so fun.
I’m happy that your Todd is through with this surgery and doing well from your last post.
I hope that you are able to go to the ward Christmas party. Our Christmas party is Saturday morning too.
Blessing and hugs for you two!
