The Simple Woman's Daybook . . .

FOR TODAY, February 26th, 2019

Outside my window ...
I am a bit later this morning, so the sun is up and the birds are singing. It looks like it is going to be a fine day.  I haven't had to put the heat on this morning at any rate.  The daffodils are starting to bloom and a neighbours tree is all aflush with Spring blossom.

I am thinking ...
Somehow I have almost gotten through February.  I finished January and am staring March in the face.  Time waits for no man, it does not stand still . . .  no matter what else is going on in your life.  It is all I can do to get through each day.  I hope this gets better.

I am thankful for ...
I have so much to be thankful for.  There is not enough paper or screen to count my many blessings on. Trying hard to focus on and be cognizant of them at present. Some days I do really well, and some days I don't. It is hit and  miss.

One of my favourite things ...

My own Homemade Granola.  I made a fresh batch yesterday and I love the stuff. I always add lots of nuts for protein.

In the kitchen ...
Tuna Salad Wrap

A healthy Tuna Salad Wrap with plenty of fresh veg on the side.  Yummy!

On my "To Cook" list ...

Preppy Kitchen.  This strawberry lemon cake is almost too pretty to eat, but I am betting it is pretty delicious!  I am pretty sure I couldn't do the decorations, but I think I know someone who could.

Good to know ...
I am creating ...

Not great in the morning light, but I think its done  . . .

New Vintage Studio.  Holly Hobbie transfers.

PK Olson, Animal Comfort Dolls on Ravelry.  Cute.

Drops Design. Free Pattern.

Sewing Organizer tutorial on Etsy. Not free.  Tutorial pattern PDF.

Oh my goodness ...

Crunchy, spicy, tasty.  I love edamame.

I am reading ...

The Woman in the Window, A J Finn

What did she see?

It's been ten long months since Anna Fox last left her home. Ten months during which she has haunted the rooms of her old New York house like a ghost, lost in her memories, too terrified to step outside.

Anna's lifeline to the real world is her window, where she sits day after day, watching her neighbours. When the Russells move in, Anna is instantly drawn to them. A picture-perfect family of three, they are an echo of the life that was once hers.

But one evening, a frenzied scream rips across the silence, and Anna witnesses something no one was supposed to see. Now she must do everything she can to uncover the truth about what really happened. But even if she does, will anyone believe her? And can she even trust herself?

I am looking forward to ...

The next episode of Dirty John. Gripping.

Dreaming about ...
A flower sprigged bodice  . . .

Cuddly bunnies  . . . hug me again.

Cooling pies  . . .  and window-sils . . .

Lacy night lights  . . .

Reds, whites and blues  . . .

Could it get any prettier  . . .

Makes me smile ...
Something to watch ...

One Day At a Time on Netflix.  Good clean fun.  Rita Moreno is priceless in this.

Corners of my Kingdom ...

The Bat's Wing 16th Century Tea Room & Gift Shop in Godshill Village, Isle of Wight, UK. A pretty 16th century tea room, covered in wisteria.

And that's my daybook for this week!

  1. Hi, Marie! I'm sure it will be a wobbly road for you for a while yet, and after the loss of your Mom and all you've been though, that is very understandable. One day at at time, yes? ;) You granola looks sooo good--love granola! And I like your take on the humble tuna salad, dressing it up in those wraps...mmm... How lovely that cake. I saw a strawberry cake made with fresh strawberries a while ago--must try when it's strawberry season again! Your cottage watercolor turned out sooo beautiful--home sweet home, that little place! ;) Hollie Hobbie--oh, I remember her from my childhood...*sigh*... long time ago... haha! Those crochet violets are adorable! Lots of sweets here today... and how CUTE is that tea room. The Bat's Wing, what a name?! Happy Day, my friend ((LOVE & BIG HUGS))

    1. Thanks Tracy! That is a really pretty cake. I am not sure I have the patience for piping like that, but the cake itself looks fab. I know, Bat's Wing doesn't seem to go with the quaintness of that cottage! Happy Day sweet friend and lots of love and hugs right back. xoxo

  5. Hi Marie, I wish I could ease your sorrowing. You will feel better in time but for now, take care of yourself. Pamper yourself. The arrival of spring will raise your spirits. We're expecting another blast of winter tomorrow. I long for tulips and daffodils. Hugs, Elaine

    1. Oh, I can't imagine the snow you get in Canada anymore Elaine. I am so thoroughly spoiled over here with what we think is cold, but really isn't! Thank you for your sweet wishes. xoxo

  6. Aw w, I love the corner of your kingdom photo. Such a cute little shop. I want to visit it.
A fun daybook as usual. The food items looks yummy. I wish I was talented enough to make cakes like this one.
I loved the changing font and haven’t thought of mixing it up.
Your novel sounds intriguing. I would love to get back to reading my novel; maybe tonight. My husband is busy with his temple schedule.
I love the crocheted items and especially loved the cute little dress and the bodice one too. It all looks like spring should be here for sure.
We just had a warmer ttwo days which is nice.
The best of all is your artwork. I love the home and the title. You are very talented artist. I love when you do art work and share it.
    Sending loving thoughts and hugs!

  7. Hi Marie~

I wish I could just come and sit with you...I know how bad it hurts...I'm so sorry. Just remember that it's okay to grieve, there is no time limit. I really found that taking time for myself, serving others and listening to music helped me through the hardest part. Big hugs to you, Marie.

What a gorgeous painting! I love the little blue roof, with the window boxes...just beautiful! Of course I love all the ideas and cute things you find.

I need to start crocheting and being creative, my fingers are itching to do something! I love those little pansies, so adorable, they would look so cute on something springy. I've thought about embroidery, but it's just one more thing I would have to find a place for, and I'm trying to downsize.

I love tuna, and doesn't everything taste better in a wrap?! The cake looks delightful!

It's still winter in my neck of the woods, although it was warmer today, instead of snow we got rain! I can't wait until I see some green!

Bob and I have been downsizing, we got rid of cable TV...a big step for Bob. And I cancelled my Sirius XM radio...a big step for me. It has been wonderfully quiet at my house. I have really enjoyed the silence and watching Netfix with Bob in the evening. I bought a 400 slot CD case, and believe it or not, I almost have it filled! Who needs XM radio with all those CDs?! I can't believe all I have accumulated in the last 45 years!

Take care Marie, know that you are loved and in my prayers. XOXO

    Hugs and Love,
    Barb

    1. Like you I have hundreds of music CD's Barb, and we rarely listen to them. I mostly put on the music on the Mormon Channel, which keeps me company all the day through. My sister and I have been having some lovely long talks. We cry, we laugh, its good medicine. Love and hugs to you. xoxo
