The Simple Woman's Daybook . . .

FOR TODAY, March 7, 2017

Outside my window ...
The days are getting noticeably longer.   The birds are singing.  The sun is up.  Its not raining.  Its a bit warmer.  Spring is springing.

I am thinking ...
I was having the most horrible dream for the last two hours or so I was in bed this morning. And it has stuck with me.  I am having a hard time shaking it.  I hope I can get it out of my head soon.  Why does that happen??  There was a man who was stalking me, and I could not get away from him.  And he was a dangerous man.  The last time I woke up he had a bicycle chain around my husbands throat while my son watched and I was screaming to all the people in the school yard, to help us, please help us.  Horrible.  Very vivid.

In the kitchen ...

Roly Poly Rhubarb Pudding.  A delightful taste of spring.

On my "To Cook" list ...

Chicken Yakisoba, from The Woks of Life.  This looks soooo good!  MUST try.  And soon.

Good to Know ...

I am creating ...

This is the beautiful work of Anne Wood.   She is a textile artist.  Her work is amazing.

Log Layouts for Bullet Journals.  From Hannah Emily Lane.

Cupcake Tea Cosy by Jane Crowfoot.  A free pattern.  I love it!

Saint Patricks Day Printables from The 36th Avenue.

Fingerless Gloves from Stitch, Craft Create.  Love the colours!

I am Reading ...

Abide With Me, by Elizabeth Strout. Katherine is only five-years-old. Struck dumb with grief at her mother's death, it is down to her father, the heartbroken minister Tyler Caskey, to bring his daughter out of silence she has observed in the wake of the family's tragedy.

But Tyler Caskey is barely surviving himself. His cold, church-assigned home is colder still since Lauren's death, and he struggles to find the right words for his sermons; struggles to be a leader to his congregation when he himself is lost.

When Katherine's schoolteacher calls to discuss his daughter's anti-social behaviour, it sparks a chain of events that begins to tear down Tyler's defences. The small-town rumour-mill has much to make of Katherine's odd behaviour, and even more to say about Tyler's relationship with his housekeeper, Connie Hatch. And in Tyler's darkest hour, a startling discovery will test his congregation's humanity - and his own will to endure the kinds of trials that sooner or later test us all.

From the Orange Prize-shortlisted author of Amy & Isabelle, this is a startlingly beautiful novel about love and abandonment, faith and hypocrisy; and the peril of family secrets…

This is very good!   I am really enjoying it.

I am looking forward to ...
Going teaching with the Missionary Sisters this afternoon while Todd is at his treatment.  Its only a few doors down from where I live, so walking there won't be a problem.

Dreaming about ...

Classic cardigans  . . .

Button trimmed yolks  . . .

Cool linen for summer  . . .

Tie neck wool  . . .

Yes please  . . .

Are not these all so comfortable looking?

Something to watch ...

Now and Then, one of my favourite movies.  It reminds me of my own childhood/teen years and the music is great!  You can watch the trailer at the link on You Tube.

  1. Gosh, I have got in first time today...coudnt get in at all yesterday....it was interesting to read about your friend being sent to,the Phillipenes as on Friday it was the woman's world day of prayer when women and men were all praying for the people of the Phillipenes...every year the service is written by a different country and this year it was the Phillipenes. I hope they felt the love of all, these millions of prayers and that they may bring some help to those over there still, struggling effects from hurricanes etc...I'm so pleased that Todd s treatment is going well, praying that continues.msome people are lucky and do not suffer side effects Somi pray that will be Todds effect....Mary. Is just about to arrive and we are going up to Chippenham to take back jeans Mary got that don't fit and a jumper I got that dosnt fit eitherof!!! Oh to be able just to get clothes that would fit me. Mary is a fairly normal size but The jeans are too tight..my jumper was a V neck with a Palouse inset the collar of the blouse is too high on my heck, I hoped that Pam might have been able to do something but no such luck....

  5. I'm sure that the dream was your brain letting off stress (given the subject of it). Praying that Todd continues to do well. Take care of yourself. They say it is harder on the caregiver than the patient frequently. That's probably because the patient is given lots of support, especially physically.

  6. Hi Sybil! Glad you were able to get in! I have a closet full of things which were bought but then for one reason or another I don't wear. Collar to high, sleeves not long enough, etc. But mostly don't fit anymore and not likely ever to. I need to get rid I think! Hope you enjoyed your day out! Thanks for the prayers, so appreciated! xoxo

Sounds like a plan Tracy! Lets do it! I will e-mail! xoxo

Thanks Linda! I like loose and baggy clothes. If I could wear my PJ's all day I would! xoxo

Monique, maybe you could join in on the Happy Mail Project if Tracy and I get it up and running! It sounds like fun! I bought what I need to make my own version of the noodles yesterday. No packs for me, just from scratch. Wish me luck! Mr T says Hi back! xoxo

Thanks Laura! I do tend to stress about things even though I seem quite laid back. I am an internal stresser! I need to relax! xoxo

Your comments mean the world to me, and while I may not be able to address each one individually, each one is important to me and each one counts. Thanks so much!
