3 Estate Lane, Nova Scotia
6*C/43*F feels colder
Mostly cloudy today
Dear Neighbor,
Good morning on this overcast day. It's not going to be as warm here today as it was yesterday. We are still in a bit of a transition period where the weather can swing wildly back and forth between really warm and teasing warm, and the wind can still have a bit of a bite in it. I still have not seen any hummingbirds at my feeder, but that is not to say they aren't there. I am just not catching a glimpse. It is early in the season yet.
Yesterday the cats had great fun chasing a fly that had gotten in, probably via the garage.
Nutmeg was successful in catching it and I think he ate it. He was licking his chops here afterward. I can't even think about it. It gives me the willies, but animals do eat bugs and things that we would feel quite ill eating. Just the thought makes me shudder. He is still alive this morning, so all is well. Its a cat thing I guess.
Cindy came over yesterday with some hair product to see if we could do anything with my hair. We ended up organizing my bedroom closet instead. I felt good about that. She is such a great organizer. That is a talent that skipped me altogether. I had started to switch out the bedding on my bed to summer bedding and had just gotten that done when she arrived. I was sitting on the end of my bed feeling very overwhelmed by it all and in tears. She was quick to jump in and help me out. I really do not know what I would do without her. Aside from her being my best friend, she is such a help to me. It's a good thing she loves me is all I can say because anyone else would think I was a huge burden.
Lately I have been feeling every single one of my 69 years and then some.

Our lawns got their first mowing of the year yesterday. It was actually quite a busy day on the street. The mowers were here. The new lady at the end across the way was getting her internet installed. The maintenance guy was next door painting that place now it is empty. Someone new will be going in there as well and then Will's place will have someone new going in there eventually as well.
There are only five people still here original to the street from when I moved in four years ago. It was four years on the first of May. I still feel very blessed to have found this place at the rent I was able to find it at. It has been a lovely little home for me, and I have felt very comfortable here. I am a person who keeps to themselves pretty much. Except for Glenna and Sheila next door I know the other residents only in passing. It's a very quiet neighborhood, which suits me to a "T." There are no men left on the street now. When I moved in the whole unit across the way was men as was the one to the right of me. All gone now.

Speaking of men, we now have a new pope, Pope Leo XIV. An American. It did not take the conclave very long to deliberate and vote him in, which is always a good sign. I know I am not Catholic, but I do have a love for the faith. At one time I wanted to become a nun. I had seen the film "The Trouble with Angels," starring Haley Mills. I did not become a nun. I became a wife and a mother and have never regretted that choice. Well, maybe the wife bits . . . I was not good at that it seems, but I do love my children, all of them, very much and would not have wanted to miss out on that part of my life, the being a mother bit.
I was probably not educated enough to become a Nun anyways. I believe most have degrees of some sort. My heart would have been in the right place however, as I do love Jesus and God, and serving others as best as I can.
I believe that many beautiful truths are to be found in most faith practices.

I got another lovely letter from Tatiana this week. Her handwriting is so beautiful. Her letters delight from the outside in. This was a bit of a pouch, but with a handmade envelope made from scrap book paper. Very pretty, always a thank you to the post man sticker on the outside as well. Inside a lovely handwritten letter telling me of all of the lovely Greek Easter Traditions, which I really enjoyed reading. Some stationary, stickers, etc. and a small cookbook. Very nice and such a cheerful thing to receive. It is so nice to get real mail that is not bills.
I hear that the Post Office is going on strike again in Canada, very soon now. I believe the 22nd of May and it is said it could last until Christmas?? I do not know how much truth and how much rumor is in what I have heard/read. It is not great news to say the least. I am not sure what they are asking for, but I think it could well mean the end of quite a few smaller businesses if such a thing happens and I would not be surprised to see something drastic happen with the Post Office as well. Time will tell.
In any case, I went out and got all the birthday cards for everyone between now and Christmas and will be sending them all out early just in case. (With notes on the outside to say don't open until, yada, yada, yada.)

Another week or two will bring us lilacs. I see the bush across the road is full of buds waiting to unfurl. I love the smell of lilacs. I have a lilac scented candle which is really nice. My sister has 3 or 4 large lilac bushes in her yard. Mom always loved to sit in her chair and enjoy the lilacs at the edge of the front deck.
Lilacs always make me think of my oldest son's birth. He will be 50 on the 29th of May. It is hard to believe that many years have passed since he arrived. When a baby is born so is a mother. What a gift!
Fifty years ago, now. So many changes in that time. I miss my mother every day. I am grateful that my father is still with us, and I am looking forward to being together with my brother later his month. It is hard to believe that baby is turning 50. They say time flies when you are having fun.

Today will probably pass much the same as my other days with a bit of this and a bit of that and a whole lot of in between. Simple. There is nothing at all to complain about when it comes to having a simple life. It is the simple things in life which matter most, after all . . .
A thought to carry with you . . .

In the kitchen today, Grilled Italian Chicken Salad. Quite simply delicious with roasted red pepper, sun dried tomatoes, marinated grilled chicken, olives, etc.
I hope you have a beautiful Friday. Whatever you get up to stay safe and be happy! Don't forget!

And I do too!!

May 22 is the deadline for the strike mandate, might happen, might not, depends on the talks. If we expect the worst, maybe it won’t happen. Good idea to be prepared just in case, Lots of changes in your complex, it will be good to have new neighbours to meet. Still very chilly here for mid May, and the breeze makes it feel cooler. Chippy is so much fun to watch, too bad he doesn’t eat ants. Off to work n my list of jobs to do, not totally exciting but I’m sure one of them will take me off on a tangent f some sort or other.
ReplyDeleteI have my fingers crossed that it doesn't! I wish Chippy did eat ants, lol. I am always going off on a tangent! Its my adhd brain! xoxo
DeleteHow great to get your closet organized! That Cindy! We all need one…ha!…I have a sister like yours, she’s great! Lucky us! I am very excited about our new Pope and will be praying he will help this crazy world! 🙏🏼 Your neighborhood has changed but it’s still a delightful place for you and your two little buddies. Take care and give yourself some grace…we all need to! …happy day. Virginia
ReplyDeleteI am really blessed with my sister for sure. I do not know what I would do without here. The new Pope seems pretty special. I too pray for him and all the leaders in this crazy world of ours! Happy weekend! xoxo
DeleteI agree, sure wish I had a Cindy!! No sisters...still wish I had one!! I so feel the pain...there are times I am near tears getting the bed made too...I have heard it is one of the most stressful parts of being a homemaker as to jobs...I do believe it to be true!!
ReplyDeleteBeing it is mom's day coming up, I made something I love today. Potato salad and it is such a shame in my opinion, that NO PLACE I have found in this berg, comes close to any of the many recipes I use for potato salad...YES, I have at least a dozen versions...all great. I did not write them; others did. But any rate, it is a HUGE lot of work. Takes at least 2.5 hours to made a fair-sized one. But I do choose what I want to eat on 2 days of the year: mom's day and my birthday. (Eating OUT is not an option those days...I resent paying good money for lousy food and usually that is the case).
And potato salad is always on the menu. I like it to sit 1-2 days before eating...it only enhances the flavor. Our daughter is coming so I make it a bit different then as raw onions do not sit well with her...so we use quite a few herbs plus onion powder instead. I decided not to use the recipe bouillon cube this time...used 1 T. Soy Sauce instead...so we will see how that does. Our son came by and picked up some drive-in Peruvian BBQ Chicken plus sides so lunch was good today too...Plus today He was sure a help when installing drapes!! I told him sometime in June will try to get a meal that includes my homemade potato salad for him and his bunch too. He was excited about that. My grandma made it most every week for Sunday meal, along with other sides. Imagine how much work that was, long into her 80s even.
Well, hope you figure some ways to deal with your hair. Maybe you could find someone who is GOOD, to kind of feather in your hair to make it at least look less chopped?? That is a shame tho...the owner of that salon needs to know her help need better training...or perhaps a different kind of work. It takes talent to cut hair!! If you asked the owner to try to fix the cut, maybe she could. Never hurts to ask.
And wow...I thought our PO system was awful (and it really is)...but so far they work SOME of the time. They get some of the best pay and benefits and still they are not happy. Ungrateful slugs!! I hope someone in Canada comes up with a better mail system and makes it impossible for the strike jerks to resume working!!! If worst comes to worst, you might consider setting up a way for your loved ones to receive something from Amazon of their choice.
HUGS, Elizabeth xoxo
If I could I would lend her to you Elizabeth! Your food sounds delicious. I love Potato Salad. I have been really thinking about making some myself! Hugs, xoxo
