This and that . . .

Today is a this and that kind of a day . . . shall I begin with this?  I think I shall . . .

We moved the viola out into the garden as they were getting kind of leggy. I have some herbs to plant now.  This keeps appearing on top of the heating register, along with my turkey award on the window sil.  I keep moving it, but like magic, it reappears.  This is a pellet gun that the husband of a friend of ours gave Todd when we were living down South. Dick liked to refurbish guns for a hobby and Todd had admired it.  Its always been a source of fascination with the Missionary Elders when they visit.  Its always been a source of angst for me.  I hate it, and there is no way it is living on top of our heat register.  NO WAY JOSE!  The Turkey Award?  Hmmm . . .  I guess he's proud of me, in any case, that's not going to be living here either.  Guess I better get those herbs planted, huh?

A while back we had taken Mitzie to the Vet because she had this growth appear on her chest right next to her left leg. The Vet did an aspiration (Ouch) and then told us it was nothing sinister, just a fat ball quite common in dogs, but to come back if it got too large and hampered her mobility.  I am not sure if it is the fat ball or what, but about two weeks ago she started limping, rather badly, and its gotten progressively worse.  We did call the Vet last week, but they are not actually dealing with anything other than emergencies at this point.  We ended up calling again yesterday.  She did a consultation over the phone. (£23 thank you very much, paid in advance.)  She thinks it is arthritis and prescribed something.  Todd had to pay for it over the phone, again in advance (Another £35) and then drive to the Vets, call them to let them know he was there.  Sit in the car and wait for them to put it on the doorstep so he could pick it up.

Now I am going to be on tenderhooks for the next two weeks waiting and watching to see if he gets sick.  I hate having to live like this.  He did wash his hands as soon as he got home, but still  . . . he popped into the shop next to the Vets and got some bananas and clementines seeing as he was already out.  MEN!

Wildflowers seem to be popping up all over the garden. So lovely to see.  We have quite a lot of Bluebells, which just appeared a few years back and seem to be expanding.  I don't them in the least.  We also have  . . .

Red Campion  . . .

 Cowslips  . . .

Ribwort Plaintain  . . .

And clover . . .  We leave them all be as the Bees love them and they do no harm.  Yet for the second year in a row our clematis is not blooming, but plenty of green leaf to enjoy.

I don't know what was going on yesterday but there were a bunch of gulls on the rooftops of the row houses adjacent to ours that were kicking off like crazy.  Making all kinds of racket.  We don't live near the coast, but we have lots of gulls here and they are quite noisy. Yesterday they were being noisy to the extreme.  They have never been my favourite bird. Not in the least.  I hope this doesn't become a frequent occurance.

Yee haw!  I think today I might be trying to bake a loaf. We'll see how it goes! Success at last and it boils down to one thing.  Unfiltered water, not tap water.

A few months back, before all this corona virus business kicked off this Italian guy sent me a bunch of Italian things to use in exchange for writing about them.  and I have been doing so.  Flour, pasta, olive oil, etc.   I thought  I was doing a good job.  He hadn't noticed my last few posts so yesterday I pointed him towards them so he could see that I had been doing posts.   Apparently he is disappointed in what I have been doing.

"I totally missed your post sorry about that. I was reading your blog post and I saw you are making the link point to Buonassai Orthomed instead that making it point to CIBILIA. I’m not sure why you are doing this. By doing In this way it’s totally pointless to me to have invested in sending you the products. I’m actually disappointed to have seen this."

He made me feel really bad.  I always try to do the best I know how for people. He has good products and I have been taking my time using them, developing recipes using them, trying to inspire other people to want to use them.  I had been unable to find a link for the tomatoes on his page so had linked to the company that made the tomatoes, although there was a link to his company as well on the page.  I know I got free product, but it takes me hours to do posts like this.  Hours spent figuring out recipes to use them, then using the products, which also takes other things from my food storage to go with them.  Photographing everything. Writing up about everything. He's obviously not getting what he thought he was going to get.  You can't please everyone I guess.

Its responses like that, which make me think why do I even bother?  And then there are the e-mails saying how come they aren't getting regular e-mail updates?  Why don't I do calorie and fat counts on all my recipes?  Why is there laundry showing in my food photos? What a crap unprofessional blog.  Why don't I do this or why don't I do that.  And don't get me started on the Spam advertising comments I get.

I don't do it because I make any money at it, for lets face it, I don't make money doing it.  In fact it costs me money because I have to pay for the printable recipe function, and the photo storage fascility, and pic monkey editing, etc. Stuff like this just kind of gets me down and I start wondering why, why, why  . . .

There are lots of other things I would like to be doing, like painting, or sewing. Or maybe even reading  . . . perhaps its time to quit. I don't know.

Except I'm not a quitter.
You can please some of the people all of the time, and you
can please all of the people some of the time, but you can never
please all of the people all of the time.

Or something like that anyways  . . .

A thought to carry with you  . . .

  1. Please don't quit, Marie. The world needs you. The complainers have no clue what is involved in writing a blog or developing recipes. And they are your blogs! They don't get a say in how you should be writing them. Amen. Try not to worry about Todd mingling with the masses. Sounds like he had minimal contact when he was out. Hope Mitze's leg is better with the new meds. Hugs and love, Elaine

    1. I hope Mitzie improves also, but don't know where we are going to come up with the money to pay for the medicine each month. Nevermind we will because that's what you do right! She's worth it for all the joy she brings us and she is such a precious wee presence in our lives. Thanks Elaine for your encouragement! Love, hugs and stay safe wishes! xoxo

  3. It is a worry when our fur babies are not feeling good especially when you can't get her in to actually see the vet. We'll be hoping that the meds do the trick and she's much better soo. We can only do the best we can, you are right we cannot possibly please everyone. The important thing is that we give the best we got.

  5. Sometimes I think when dealing with people from other cultures, it is VERY difficult to come to understandings. There are always gaps it seems when English is not their first language. But yea...world is chuck full of those who will not be pleased...do what suits you Marie...your readers are happy with how you do things!! Very!!

  6. Oh Marie, we have the same problem. I put something somewhere and he will exchange it for something else. It's cute sometimes.
I loved all your photos of flowers; beautiful. We are at least getting more signs of spring here.
I'm sorry about the man that didn't like how you reviewed the products. I am sad for all those that business rather than kindness comes first. I know how hard you must work to do all you do. Don't give up.
I am going to try your biscuit recipe; it looks good and easy.
    Blessings and hugs!
