The Simple Woman's Daybook . . .

FOR TODAY, April 14, 2020

Outside my window ...
Birds are singing. Its dry but cool. The sun is up.  The Starlings are wolf-whistling. The gulls are squawking.  Sounds pretty normal to me. Oh, I just heard a robin, sooooo beautiful!

I am thinking ...
I try not to overly think things these days. I am lucky if I can remember what day of the week it is! 2020, the year that time forgot.

I am thankful for ...
All of our NHS, Caregivers and volunteers who are working to hard to care for the people in this country who are sick and in need. To date we have had 11,329 deaths. I feel a bit like a deer with a target on it's back.

In the kitchen ...

Quick & Easy No Yeast Dinner Rolls.  The recipe goes together in a flash, makes only 4 rolls, uses only 1 cup of flour and contains no yeast.  They are delicious too!

On my "To Cook" list ...

Plain Chicken. Smothered Chicken and Rice.  Looks and sounds yummy.

Good to know ...

I am creating ...

Domestic Heights.  Free templates and tutorial for making flowers.

Hello Wonderful.  Festive paper bird houses.

I am reading ...

Becoming Mrs Lewis, by Patti Callahan
A heart-rending historical romance, and a glimpse into the life of a writer Poet, atheist and communist, New Yorker Joy Gresham is an unconventional woman – and an unlikely partner for an English academic and theologian. And when she starts a correspondence with Narnia author C. S. Lewis, she isn't looking for love. Her own marriage crumbling, she seeks refuge in her work, and guidance from a writer she admires. But in Joy's letters Lewis discovers a kindred spirit, and an intellect to equal his own. Bonding over a shared love of literature and ideas, a deep connection is forged between the two. Embarking on the adventure of a lifetime, Joy travels from America to England and back again. Facing heartbreak and poverty, discovering friendship and faith, against all the odds, the couple struggle to secure a love that will endure forever.

Joy Gresham was an American, married with two young sons in 1950, when she entered into a correspondence with C.S. Lewis, the already very well known author, scholar and theologian. In doing so she embarked upon a course of action that would change her whole life. In the exchange of letters she discovered a man who would make her feel a way that her alcoholic, cruel husband could never do.

  1. Hi, Marie! LOVELY to catch up with you here! And thank you for continuing to sharing delightful posts like these...it's the "little extra" that means a lot at the moment! Such strange times are these! Here there may be a gentle, soft "reopening" of the country--some things, but not all will start again, and all will be subject to change. It will be interesting to see how it all goes as we move toward summer. :/ God Bless us all! Hope you & Todd continue to keep well and safe... Thinking of you all, often! ((LOVE & BIG HUGS))

    1. Yes, these are indeed strange times. I think though when we look back on them one day, we will be able to remember all the little pockets of joy we were able to find amidst the darkness! God bless us all indeed. Love and hugs to you and TJ and Luna. If we get through this perhaps Todd and I should plan on a trip to Norway. xoxo
