The Simple Woman's Daybook . . .

FOR TODAY, September 4, 2018

Outside my window...
The sun is up but it looks to be a cloudy, cool and possibly showery day. Looking very autumnal although it is still summer.

I am thinking ...
I posted a recipe today for a Korean style Hog Dog, which basically is just a hotdog with Korean flavours.  Have already had one message complaining that it is too contraversial..  Who know. They are now Spicy Slaw Dogs.

In the kitchen ...

Korean Hot Dogs

Umm . . . Spicy Slaw Dogs, with  a spicy slaw topping, kimchi and two hot condiments (hot ketchup and hot mustard)  All contraversy aside, these are delicious nonetheless!

On my "To cook" list ...

These Bacon Cheeseburger Flatbreads from Plain Chicken look fabulous!

I am reading ...

A Cloud in the Shape of a Girl, by Jean Thompson
A Cloud in the Shape of a Girl is a poignant novel about three generations of the Wise family—Evelyn, Laura, and Grace—as they hunt for contentment amid chaos of their own making.

Evelyn set aside her career to marry, late, and motherhood never became her. Her daughter Laura felt this acutely and wants desperately to marry, but she soon discovers her husband Gabe to be a man who expects too much of everyone in his life, especially his musician son. Grace has moved out from Laura and Gabe’s house, but can’t seem to live up to her potential—whatever that might be.

In A Cloud in the Shape of a Girl we see these women and their trials, small and large: social slights and heartbreaks; marital disappointments and infidelities; familial dysfunction; mortality. Spanning from World War II to the present, Thompson reveals a matrilineal love story that is so perfectly grounded in our time—a story of three women regressing, stalling, and yes, evolving, over decades. One of the burning questions she asks is: by serving her family, is a woman destined to repeat the mistakes of previous generations, or can she transcend the expectations of a place, and a time? Can she truly be free?

Evelyn, Laura, and Grace are the glue that binds their family together. Tethered to their small Midwestern town—by choice or chance—Jean Thompson seamlessly weaves together the stories of the Wise women with humanity and elegance, through their heartbreaks, setbacks, triumphs, and tragedies.

Your Spicy Slaw Dogs look delicious... don't let anyone tell you otherwise! ;) Everything has to be so "policitally correct" to within an inc of its life these days, and there's always someone that must complain... *sigh*... 1. Well, I was calling them Korean Hot Dogs, but was immediately messaged saying that Koreans actually ate dogs and that for me to call them that was disturbing and reprehensible. SO I changed the name. I absolutely did not think of that when I was naming the recipe and didn't want to upset anyone, so changed it. You would be cute in that beret! It is calling your name! Love and hugs to you, TJ and Luna! xoxoxo

  2. Goo morning Marie and friends. Marie your grandchildren are growing oh so quickly. My Mia is one on Friday. Today when I was looking after her I could see the changes since Sunday. We had a lovely day together.

How I loved those lights with bees. I have never seen anything like that. Today I bought a set of copper star lights to hang over the kitchen curtain rail.

God bless you today. Lots of love to you as well.

Love that bee adorned plate..Chaching lol..
MarieI hae that honey dispenser..while it is cute..you have to use it a lot because I find sugar crystallizes in it very quickly.Just a pretty thang..;)

    1. I hope not as well Monique! haha Love my FrenchFries! I do love pretty things, and that is why I love Pinterest, I can admire, collect and keep without having to clean or dust! I can see where the honey would crystallize in it quickly. It does even in the little squeeze bottle as soon as it is opened. You can reheat and it will liquify again, but what a pain! Love our littles. We have some of similar ages. You will enjoy JR. Very good. xoxo

  4. I do hope your sweet Todd has a Happy Birthday on Friday. I read your last one first so I didn’t know the exact date of his birthday.
I thought your recipes looked interesting. My husband loves hot dogs of which he can’t have often but I may try this one. Of course, I love an occastional Cheeseburger so having it in flatbread sounds good.
The Fudge Lemon Biscuits looks yummy too.
The crocheted Beret hat is adorable.
You do find fun things to look at. I wish I was more into making items but I do like looking at them.
You did find some fun Bumble Bee items. I always enjoy your dreams.
Your oldest Grandson, Gabriel is adorable. Wow, he will soon be a teen. I wish you could be near them all. I know that you are a marvelous grandmother even though you are far away. Most of my grandchildren live far away which is sad.
I do have a fascination with castles thanks for sharing this photo.
Blessings and hugs for you two!
