The Simple Woman's Daybook . . .

FOR TODAY, September 12th, 2017

Outside my window ...
The skies look clear, but we have had a very rainy, showery couple of days and today they are calling for extremely high winds and more rain. I think September has become the month of wind and rain. It seems like that is what it has been the last few years at any rate and it all started when Hurricane Kate (I think it was called) decided to visit us when we were on holiday in Cumbria 7 years ago.

I am thinking ...
All the things that are happing in the world right now, pestilence, famine earthquakes, hurricanes and bad weather, wars and rumours of wars, men's hearts waxing cold, people will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power, etc.  these are all signs of the latter days before Christ's return, these and others, and they are all happening now. It is all in the bible, having been prophesied thousands of years ago. Even the Saviour told us when we could know His return was imminent.  And yet, people don't seen to recognise what they are.  It is mind boggling to me.  I don't understand how anyone can ignore these things and not heed the warning that comes with them, to repent and prepare.

In the kitchen ...

Cinnamon Swirl Raisin Bread.  It's pretty tasty.  I've become much more confident with my bread baking!

On my "To Cook" list ...

Bon Jon Gourmet.  Cherry Marzipan Scones.  These look fabulously tasty!

Good to know ...

I always have Vicks in the medicine chest!

I am creating ...

Could not find a source, but it looks easy eough. I think these are rather nice.  Yarn wound around triangles and then beads, etc. glued on.  Great little Christmas Tree ornies!

Make and Appreciate.  Crochet Fox Ears.  Cute!

From Nordstrom.  Santas Coat.  Just eye candy, but I think I could figure it out.

Granny Go Round Kitchen set.  Not free, but not expensive either.  Love the Cath Kidston colours.  From Maggies Crochet

Cutesy Crafts.  Deer and Fox Christmas Ornaments.  Cute!

I am reading ...

Before The Storm, by Diane Chamberlain
Fifteen-year-old Andy Lockwood is special. Others notice the way he blurts out anything that comes into his mind, how he cannot foresee consequences, that he's more child than teenager. But his mother sees a boy with a heart as open and wide as the ocean.

Laurel Lockwood lost her son once through neglect. She's spent the rest of her life determined to make up for her mistakes, and she's succeeded in becoming a committed, protective parent—maybe even overprotective. Still, she loosens her grip just enough to let Andy attend a local church social—a decision that terrifies her when the church is consumed by fire. But Andy survives…and remarkably, saves other children from the flames. Laurel watches as Andy basks in the role of unlikely hero and the world finally sees her Andy, the sweet boy she knows as well as her own heart.

But when the suspicion of arson is cast upon Andy, Laurel must ask herself how well she really knows her son…and how far she'll go to keep her promise to protect him forever.

I have loved every Diane Chamberlain book I have read, and so far I am loving this one too. I am getting near the end of this now and loving it still.  There is a book 2 to follow also! Yay!

I am looking forward to ...
There is going to be a Stake Relief Society Pamper Day on Saturday.  I think I will go. Its at our chapel.

  1. Hi Marie, playing catch up again! I hope the young lady from church is ok. Mental health is a serious problem and we still tend to sweep it under the carpet if it doesnt affect us directly. Out of sight out of mind. The problem with that is that we dont know what to do when faced with it. My sister had really bad problems with it about 30 years ago but thankfully was successfully treated for it. She had been ok all this time until about six months ago when it reared its ugly head again. It's heart breaking to see some one you love like this.

Your eternity ring is just beautiful! Todd must love you very much! Happy anniversary when it arrives!

We had an awful time in London. Pete and Ashley are on the verge of splitting up. He still can't come to terms with his cancer diagnosis and is now literally drinking and smoking himself to death, and she has had enough. Her mum has come over from Hong Kong to look after Christian as they can't afford the childcare now. She has said she will have to go back to Hong Kong with Christian as she just couldn't manage financially on her own in London. It's such a mess, we're devastated.

Suze! Congratulations! Your granddaughter is absolutely beautiful and such a gorgeous name too! You must be so proud. Be sure to give her lots of cuddles xxx

Enjoy your week Marie and hope your knee is ok. Hope you get your doctors appointment. Lot's of love xxx

  2. Hi, Marie! It is a sad time in our human history, I think. God must be crying a lot of the time, over what we do to this planet, to each other, so much being destroyed, lies... Surely now more than ever a wake up call?! Thank goodness for your Cinnamon Swirl Raisin Bread while we wait for Jesus, Marie. :) We need some sweet in between all the heartache... Had no idea Vicks VapoRub could do so much! Those yarn Christmas Trees are cute... the felt ornaments too! And LOVE, love, love that Granny Kitchen set...*swoon*... Imagine a kitchen with room for produce drawers/baskets like that??!! Love all the cozy decorating ideas... yes please! ;)Happy Week, my sister-friend ((LOVE & BIG HUGS))

  3. it is truly that time of year when we think about being cozy and warm. It's been usually cool here for about a week but today is supposed to warmer. The thing about being cooler is that I do tend to turn the oven on more. Now I have some banana bread coffee cake, an applesauce cake, and even some cornbread sitting on the table all for me to eat.. I need to have some company to share it with. Ha ! Hope you have a terrific Tuesday!

  4. Words that jumped out of me this morning ....when I first read today's blog.....was marzipan cherry scones, mmmmm Mary loves marzipan in any form, she would eat a whole Battenburg cake by herself, no bother, mind you I could almost do the same so I think these scones would be just heavenly...but then I remember I can't make scones..every time I try I end up with bricks !!! These little Xmas trees are so easy to do I think if we were going to have a stall again at church I'm pretty sure I would have been making some.....I wonder if you've made an appointment yet to see the Dr...I do hope they can find something that will ease the pain.....hope you have had a good day...night night xxx

  5. The Christmas tree ornaments would be a fun project for my grands to make! My Lex would be in her glory with all those fairy lights! Lol.

There is so much chaos going on right now! At Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon,NH they have a lockdown bc there's a shooter that already shot one person! They said that on the radio station that I'm listening to! Very scary! I'm praying that no-one dies!
It makes me sick with everything that is going on in this world Marie!
I hope all your friends problems get resolved too. There is way too much damn hurt in this world now!

Hope ur knee is feeling better today!
    Big hugs and prayers!

  6. Oh Kate, I am so sorry to read this news of Pete and Ashley. Praying that they can come to terms with everything and sort things out! (((hugs))) Praying also for your sister. Life is so hard sometimes. My knee is still quite painful, but the ibuprophen and Cocodemols are helping a bit. When I look at all the suffering in the world, a sore knee is the least of it. Love and hugs. xoxo

It sure is Tracy. I wish more people recognised what is going on and made changes, but we know they won't. Happy Week dear friend. Love you too. xoxo

Oh Pam, would that I could just pop in for a visit. That coffee cake sounds gorgeous, as do the others! Hope your Wednesday (today) is filled with goodess! xoxo

Ohh Sybil, wish I lived closer so I could make you some scones! No appointment made yet. I don't know how my days fill up as they do, but they do. love and hugs, xoxo

How absolutely frightening Jan! I can't imagine. I hope they are able to stop the shooter before too many are hurt. Hugs and prayers right back. xoxo

  7. Love, love your daybook entries; always so fun. I feel like you do; why can't people see that the signs of the 2nd coming are here and now.
The world is in commotion for sure. I must pick up some Vick's. I loved the list of things it can help. My poor husband has been fighting a cold and we could have tried some of this. I remember those old time therapies were good. Always love the fun decorations that you find.
Many of your dreams are similar to some of mine. I must watch High Society again; it's been years.
I forgot to tell you in the today's post that I love your rings; just beautiful! You have such a wonderful husband.
Sending love and hugs to you both!
