Small and Wonderful Things . . .

"The world is fairly studded and strewn with pennies cast broadside from a generous hand. But who gets excited by a mere penny? It is dire poverty indeed when a man is so malnourished and fatigued that he won't stoop to pick up a penny. But if you cultivate a healthy poverty and simplicity, so that finding a penny will literally make your day, then, since the world is in fact planted with pennies, you have with your poverty bought a lifetime of days. It is that simple. What you see is what you get." ~Anne Dillard

A few of the small and wonderful things which bring untold joy into my life. It's the small things in life which truly mean the most. Simple abundance . . . it's the best.

All of the greenery bursting through the soil in the gardens along the street, can the tulips be far behind?  I think not. I love to see the color showing up after the long drab winter. Pewter skies being replaced with blue. Being able to keep the front door open for a bit to let fresh spring air blow through the house. It's all pretty wonderful.

Sunday night dinner at my sister's.  She made this dish called Chicken Lombardy and it was fabulous.  The best part of course was sharing it with family. I love that I get to do this each week. I am having all of them over here on Saturday. Not sure what I am going to make yet, but we will see!

Listening to Music and the Spoken Word on a Sunday afternoon. It just invites such a special spirit into my home. A spirit of comfort and peace. I start off with this week's episode on YouTube and then just let it run from one episode into another. It's all very relaxing and soul enriching.  Good music. It's a very "good thing" as Martha would say.

I would have to agree with this completely.  This is my happy place, and I am most grateful for it.

The art of peaceful contemplation  . . . quiet . . . solitude . . . nothing but me, myself and I.  Together we get along fine.

In a world where we can be anything we want to be, the choice to be kind is the best choice to make.  I will choose to be kind any time.  It is the high road. You do it often enough and it does become a way of life, second nature, the best way to live.

There is so much negative energy in the world today. I choose not to invite it in.  I leave it at my door. Only peace is welcome here.  I have banished everything else. It is the best way to live your life.

These two. Best house companions ever.  I know they say dogs have masters and cats have slaves, but I am a willing slave if that is the case, the benefits of being so are worth it all.

Mac was doing a lot better yesterday. The pain killing shots are helping a lot. We still don't know what the mass is but God willing it won't be anything sinister.  Keep those happy thoughts coming. Thank you.

I am blessed to have very good friends in my life. Emails, letters, messages, etc. when I get one it lights up my day.  My days are pretty good anyways, but hearing from someone who holds a special place in your heart is the icing on the cake.  I appreciate each and every one.

Prayer.  Prayer changes everything.  Prayer changes me.

The natural world.  Look at the intricacies of this beautiful nest.  How the eggs are nestled into what looks to be the softest most luxurious bed.  Well prepared for the arrival of the little chicks. It is such a cozy thing.  It is called love.

A small thing, but . . . everything.

You who are reading this, yes . . .  you.  I appreciate you. I really do.

My life is a happy mix of joys. Large, small, and everything in between. Heaven and earth.  It is not complicated. It is peaceful at best.  I have enough and then some.  If you have enough and can also share some of that abundance with others, then you are indeed blessed, and I am blessed.

A thought to carry with you . . .

  3. Nice to hear about the improvement in Mac, hope it continues. Love your recipe today, will be making it when family comes to visit. The tulips and daffodils are coming through the ground, and today I moved the big pots of hosta out of the garage and onto the front patio. A couple are showing growth, and the rain from the next couple of days will water them after the winter. Spring is the time of rebirth and growth. Glad to be able to spend some time outside enjoying Nature. Have a lovely Monday.
